DBV-145-SG Problems

Hi everyone, I'm new to all this, but I hope I have finally found somewhere where I can get a little help...

I have 2 bally slot machines with DBV-145-SG validators. Both have the same problem. When you start up the machines, the box that holds the bills cycles up and down a number of times. Then the red light on the BV turns on, the gears continue to cycle up and down and finally stop. The red light never turns on and the BV never accepts bills. I have no idea what the problem could be. Non of the settings have been played with. I have swapped parts between 3 machines and always get the same result.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate the help.

If you have a 5500 Series Bally upright (look on the tag, lower right side) ...there is a switch on the upper/center just inside the Bill validator cash can area.  If you take a (thick) piece of carboard and stick it up there in the slot where the lock/cam  would be...( I'm assuming your cash can DOOR  has no lock and cam ) ...to "close"  the switch... PLUS  look on the bottom of the cash can area...( I'm assuming your cash can is not there ).... you should see one or two  "roller switches " .... the  roller switches  must be  "down"  /  closed.  See if this helps you at all.   

Oh yes... this is also assuming your  dip switch settings on the "game"  board are  set to BV  "on".   ( I think, even if the BV switch is off,  the BV  will cycle ) 

There may be a  Bally  5500  manual somewhere on this site.

Lot of assumptions here... but at least it's a start.

I believe I have a bally 5000 (It says 5023 on the lower right hand corner) I have both a cam lock and the cash can. Also, if the cam lock is unlocked I get an error code on the machine. ( I was playing around with it after your post). However, I get no error codes and the machine works fine except for the BV when everything is closed. I'm not sure, what I should look at in terms of the "dip switch" on the "game board"??

If you post a couple of pictures of both the outside and inside of your machine...
I'm very sure you'll have guys tell ya exactly what you have and it will go a long way
in helping you out with your machine!
High resolution is the way to go..not those crappy cell phone pictures in a dark room from across the street!

Did they always have this problem, or did they used to work and then they both suddenly stopped working?

If the second, did this coincide with someone changing the heads or upgrading the firmware?

I noticed a loose cable, not sure if that is the issue.

As I said before, the mechanism that is above the cash can, just keeps cycling. Also, I dont know how to remove the cash can, there are 2 arms that keep it in place on each side after you open the door.

To remove the cash can:  Insert  stiff cardboard or plastic ( maybe an old credit card )  on the  left and right side of cash can.  These will push back the "fingers"  that are holding the cash can locked in.     In your picture showing the "loose cable"  you can see to the right...the cash can  door switch that the exterior cash can door lock cam  turn up and "closes"  the contacts on the door switch.

I believe that if you pull the grey wire and Yellow wire on the door switch and tie them together...that "closes"  the door lock switch and takes a "faulty" switch out of the equation.

Joey sells "cut cards" these are the plastic ones the dealers use for blackjack.

A couple of these things work awsome for pulling out cash cans on the bally.

You can also get used playing cards anywhere in vegas and use them (disposeable) for the same use.
