Facts;
1. I have a Bally slot with an E-2000 MPU
2. The test switch on the hopper control board will not put the machine
into the test mode.
3. The machine has a coin hopper with a E-1000 hopper control board.  In
Fey's manual he states that a E-1000 hopper control board can be used
with an E-2000 MPU with a simple one wire change.  Since this wire is
one of the 120VAC leads to the motor, it would affect only the motor and
not the operation of the board itself.
3. The hopper assembly works in an E-1000 machine I have.  Therefor, I
assume the hopper board is functional.
4.  The E-2000 MPU RAM had a bad battery that I replaced.  I used a 3.6V
lithium battery.
5. The machine has no sound board, only a bell and buzzer.
6. The machine will accept coins, spin, and stop all reels
7. There is no payout or sound on a winning combination.
8. Nothing registers on the win meter except number of coins played and
the door open code.

Since I can't get into the test mode to pin point problems, I need someplace to start.

Can some one take a wild guess or two where that might be.

bally hoppers are interchangeable - an e1000 hopper will work in a e2000 and vice versa - only if you move hopper boards do you have to move a wire.  IO boards are interchangeable as well - not the mpu without a jump wire.  as for your machine not testing - are you pressing the reset button the the test button 2 times?

Here is what happens with a cold power on

display; . . . 0. 0. 0. 6.

press reset
display; 1. . . 0. 0. 6.

press test twice
display; . . . 0. 0. 0.  coin accepted light and white tower light  turn on

close door
50 .0. 0 0  coin light and tower light turn off

any idea what this means?

the 6 indicates a low voltage - usually the power supply but since machine resets and you get  a 50 000 then voltage seems to be okay.   Try pressing the reset button then the test button multiple times while watching the win meter - each press of the test button you should see the numbers increment on the win meter.  Make sure the door key is removed from the door as there may be a key switch there.  not sure why the test "2" did not work - so try 4 (hopper should start up and dispense 10 coins).

I checked voltages to find out what they are.  +5=5.07, ZC=7.02, UR=9.59

Nothing happens no matter how many times I push the test switch.  The win meter doesn't change and no actions are initiated.

Checking further to find out why I can not activate the test mode on this E-2000, I measured some voltages.  If I am reading the wiring diagram correctly, pushing the test switch applies  +5V to pin 8 of J1 on the MPU.  I measured this and found pin 8 measures +0.5V not +5V when the switched is pushed.  On the PS board +5V actually measures +4.09V.

I measure the resistance of the circuit from the +5V test point on the PS board to pin 8 of J1 and found 3.3K ohms with the test switch open and 3K ohm with the switch closed.  I don't know what this means.

The 3.3 probably won't make much of a difference and if you are testing it when mounted to the board you can easily get these minor variences.....the voltage seems out of wack
 - don't mean to sound insulting ...but ... are you sure your meter is set to the right range ? ie a 50V setting would register 5v as 0.5 ( I am a measure twice cut once guy).
