Just brought a wild cherry home.  Guy claims it was working 2wks ago with no problems and just warmed it up for me to look at..   Tilt mode top candle slow flashh bottom fast flash   error 12
I know Ill start with the battery change but is there anything I should do prior to that.  Cant really get much to happen as far as test pages with reset key and white reset button   When I bring up page 4 to check for chip #s Iget 3412 but Game chip # is not there. That seems Unusaul to me, unless normal because of 12 code .  Have not had to do a battery swap bfore and as of now I dont Have the chips for the swap.  Is ther a chance I wont need to do the Ram clr procedure after tha battery change.  Going to take the board out and take a look while waiting for suggestions..  Be back soon   thanks ArtD

When you change the battery out, the memory in the ram will get cleared, if not - then corrupted.
It's pretty much the same as doing a ram clear.
The ram clear however, puts all the memory back into the "correct" order waiting for more info.
Remember not to remove or insert the MPU board while the power is on.
You failed to mention whether or not your machine has a bill acceptor.
If it does indeed have one, then you will need the correct SET chip as well, to re-enable it.

You may not have to do a clear at all...
If you've changed the battery - all should be well! yes
I will ask you again, Do you have a bill acceptor in your machine?
I'm guessing you don't because your SP chip is quite old.

The machine should re-initialize itself when it detects bad data in the eeprom and cmos.  Very rarely do you need to clear the machine.  I've only had to clear mine 1 time in the last 3 years, it had a weird error where handpays would not do the ding, ding, ding, etc sound.

OOPS  sorry my mind tends to wander  but no the bill validator has been removed in this cabinet  The slot for it there but covered an the assembly is gone  Would like to at some point put another one in.   The machine went to 61 and I reset it and its Playing but If I hit any win it is going  into an alarm ding ding ding ding  etc instead of dispensing coins or even credits.  I assume its in a constant hand pay mode.  Dont know anything about those settings.  If alarms on a win I just turn reset once and its good to play again.  Thanks For your Input Art D

Your credit limit is set too low so it's not allowing you to accumulate credits, what SP game prom do you have on it?

Shut off your power switch.
Remove the MPU and turn off dipswitches 1 & 2.
The machine will pay out at most 300 coins.
Turn on dip switch 3 for reel & spin sounds.
Make sure dips 4,5,6,7,and 8 are off until you learn more
about how to configure your machine.
Later on you know more , you can easily change these
dips so you can program the hopper payouts to your liking.

Once you've set the dipswitches, put the MPU back in,
turn on the power and you should be good to go!

Right now dip 1- 4 are on and 4 thru 8 are off  Is that how it  should be if I was to configure the settins manually   I would rather leave it as is and change the settings If i could.. I believe the previous owner was having coins dispensed but I will have to check that.  Would the battery change cause some of the pay settings to be off?  Thanks again for your relpy you are definatly very helpful.  Art D

Art-

The older SP chips (like your SP0611) use the dip switches to configure the machine.  There may be a paper label on the silver MPU tray that indicates what all the dip switches do.  As Bunker mentioned earlier, always make sure the machine is powered off before removing or inserting the MPU board.

If you want to be able to configure the machine using settings with the self test button, spin button, and jackpot reset key, you'll need to upgrade the SP chip to a newer chip that ignores the dipswitch settings and uses the menus.

Ok Iguess Ill have to  upgrade but The guy I got it from didnt mention that he had to reset every time it would hit  Does it make sense that every time a   payout was won that it would go to a Hand pay even on a 2 coin win.  That is what it was doing.  Is it possible that ity was set up with a different chip and the this chip was put in  to play.  I have other game chips in other machines  but dont know all the different options I have.  Learning stage If you kow what I mean.   Does any one happen to have a PAR sheet for the 0611 chip

SP chips use PSR sheets while SS reel chips use PAR sheets to see how the paytable is laid out.
I can try to send you a PSR for your SP611 game chip and you'll see all the options your game chip can do!
PM to me your email address and I will get that out to you before later this evening...
Maybe some one will put it up in the "Upload Section" of NLG for you to look at before I get back.

Nope, it doesn't work that way.

Don't worry about it, though, Bunker -- I had it in my files and I've e-mailed him.

Ok I spoke to the guy who owned it before and it was set to pay to credit  meter and only dispensed coins when hit cash out.  So if he had it that way with dips 1-4 on and 5-8 off I should be able to get it back to those settings  so it wont go to Hand Pay Alarm on every hit.  More readingbut I guess its got to be the way the denomination  is currently set self test 6.?

The reason why the machine went into hand pay mode when the
cash/credit button was hit was because dipswitches 1 & 2 were in the "on" position -
allowing the amount that can be paid out by the hopper "programmable" and
it was probably set extremely low like 1 or 2 credits max. frying pan
Every time you won at least 1 or 2 credits, the machine would lock up, go into hand-pay mode
thereby forcing you to turn the reset key to continue play...
pretty dumb way to set up a machine... bust gut laughing

Aah, okay, I didn't have the dipswitch chart in front of me and didn't look at the PSR -- I forgot that that setting was "programmable" (I've never actually used old SP chips in my games except for testing some sound stuff on Coral Reef).

As you'll recall, Bunker, he had to change the battery on the MPU board -- it probably lost its programming at that point -- it may have even changed to "0".

I agree..Like I said, removing the battery really corrupts the everything and
the memory circuits are all scrambled into "1's" and "0's".
It's possible that the settings were stuck at a very low hopper payout setting.
Using the clear chip turns all the gates in memory settings to a "1" I think.
Then removing the clear chip and inserting the SP chips "plants" a fresh program into the system.
Using the Clear chip is akin to "Wiping the slate clean" so to speak...
This explains why it's necessary to configure your machine's setting and options after
changing batteries/ changing out games/ or after using Clear chips.

For newbies...remember this...using a Clear chip is like wiping out your hard drive!

I havent used the clear chip as of yet because I dont have one.  But the machine is working with the dip changes you suggested  I make.   If I put the switche3s back to the way they were when I changed the battery I should be able to reconfigure the 0s and 1s as you called them back to what would give me normal play correct.  Just not completely sure of the procedure.  I have done a little tinkering with my other machines but havent come across this issue  before.  Have changed the settings to manipulate the options for the cash out button or credit mode but really havent had the need to change much more.  I actually want to get the clr chip and set chips because I have a game kit I want to swap w my 5x Dble spin which is a type 20.  I have 3 machines all of which needed a little something to get working, so Im in the learning and tinkering mode hopefully not screwing anything up in the process.  This site has been great for providing info to read and direct response for pending issues.  I guess if i put the dips back I need a setting for the hopper limits and get the denom setting away from 0 which I believe it is set to at the moment.  Thanks

The PSR explains the available settings and how to change them.  I understand that they're not the easiest things to follow, but have you read through the PSR?  We'll be happy to help with any questions you may have about the PSR, but that should be your starting point for how to change the settings.

Good Sir,

Do I have a deal for you......
Check out the Upload a new File section......
In there you will find a document called MyOptionSheetsImproved.zip
One of our members R273 created these for the very reason you described.
If you use these in conjunction with your PSR you will be reading them like a pro in no time.
