I am not sure this qualifies as a restoration but it is a reserection.

I built a mame coctail table. It uses a 26" monitor and works fantastic.

Unfortunately its a bit large for the room and with it tucked behind my theater chairs and in front of the slots its just in the way.

I have decided to part it out and rebuild it into a nice coffee table.

I will be using a LCD monitor and a current model laptop (with a broken screen) as the engine.

Here is the table with the cut out for the monitor.

Jay, one of those ELO Touch monitors that were selling in e-bay would be a great fit for your project.  You wouldn't need a mouse to do stuff.

Did you use a jigsaw to cut out the square, it looks pretty nice.

I first did the measurements and then built a jig.
Basically it was a quarter sheet of MDF. I routed out the center of the MDF with a cutting bit.
I then clamped that onto the table and used it as a guide to route the table.
This old house comes on the tube on Sunday Mornings so I sleep late then watch Norm !

I had Speedy autoglass cut a 6mm sheet with ground edges that I will drop into the top of the table.
The monitor will mount from the bottom.

I managed to snag two of those touch screen Monitors - Via Vi Bunker but they are just 15inch.
The track ball that I will use for Miissle Command will serve as my mouse.

I am surprized that Ron didn't comment that its sitting on the dining room table.

Naw! That wasn't bad at all really,
but I remember you using a Dremel tool on the kitchen table a couple of years ago!  bust gut laughing
That wasn't exactly terrible either but at least you had protective eyewear on. yes
I couldn't say the same for your standing open glass of water on the table though... Tongue Out

Here's an oldie but goldy!>>>

The bottom however is a bit realestate challenged.

In the second picture I zoomed in on the open board.

This is called a K372 from Hagstrom Electronics.
It provides 72 inputs and simply plugs into the keyboard port of a computer.
It then has a keyboard port of its own so you can continue to use a keyboard as needed. I have added a wireless keyboard to this output.

I am using about 34 of 36 ports. The ribbon cable connects up a optional terminal block - I have a second one that was not needed.

If anyone is thinking about building a MAME platform I highly recommend this board. It really makes the project a snap.

I am not sold on using a laptop for this. The one I used had a cracked screen so I removed it. I taped down the microswitch that tells the unit the cover is closed but occasionally it still screws up and doesn't give me a display on the LCD so I have to crawll underneath and press FN 8. For the most part it is left on 99% of the time and the power save options are used to shut off the screen and idle the hard drive so this is not an issue but annoying the odd time that it does happen. Secondly this laptop did not have an actual Keyboard port and only 2 USB ports. I used a USB to KEboard/mouse adapter to add in the KE72 and to attach the trackball as a mouse. I then had to use a USB to serial adapter so I could program the KE72. All ports are full. The audio out is also in an awkward spot off the front

Jay ,
you most likely thought about this ?? >>>>>but you have cats <<< << Do you think the cats may have a feild day pulling wires down some day or night ???   how about a piece of clear plexi with some vent holes cut etc . then on the four legs -make a 1/4 in saw cut  to slide in the plexi from the sides and perhaps a pin on each center middle to support the weight ?? Even Spray paint the plexi flat black so the cats donr see the maze of wires ?

you understand what im saying on the fine table game you built .I would cry if a child or a cat or dog ripped out some wires .

then it would be U.L. APPROVED !!

STAT,
in my profile pictures I have one of the two Shep pups sitting in the bucket of the IGT slant top .of course they only weighed 12-14lbs at the time .. one currious one who is full grown now .She learns to jump up on the row of slants that have credits lewft on them and manage to get 3 or 4  out of one row of six slantops to fire off ..

never got a jackpot yet .. I do go nuts when she hits the 9-LINE TRIPLE DIAMOND REEL GLASS ..
thats when the get the f--off them now !! .. Iwould never hit them for doing it ..i trained them as pups .to try to get up and do the walk !! .but now at 85lbs its different on a hard to find reel glass . or payline glass .

I grew up with German Shepherds.  Odie
I love big dogs, but you're right that they don't know their own size, and once they get trained, they're trained.  frying pan
I've known the occasional 80+ pound dog who liked to jump in people's laps...  Crazy  Their owners didn't stop them when they were smaller, so they learned that it was an acceptable behavior. They'd get down, of course, after  the poor guest's voice had gone up three octaves. Duh! knockout Cry Laughing Cry Laughing

You must be referring to stories that I have told you about my Sister's two lap dogs!!! I always try to remember to sit and sleep at my Mom's house with a pillow covering the JEWELS!!! Attached is a photo of these 75lb (each) Love Monsters making themselves comfortable on their "Uncle Mark!!!" They did not want me to sleep in!!!

 YES THE DOGS LOL

I wonder why with all the property I have --plus open space grassy Fields etc ..
I have not learned my lesson . that my two knees that got wiped out 4 & 5 yrs ago were from the dogs
pulling the close line trick . Then round two was the old female I had -Who trained the two pups there first 20-months
before I had to put her down just from old age .

That the two sisters on the slant top  now going into year 3 at 85lbs give or take a few .. .

after a car ride I let them out of car . They are tied together with choke collars -with 20 feet long lead . they instantly run side by side as trained .

BUT SPLIT WHEN IT COMES TO RUNNING UP BEHIND ME !!
TAKING ME FOR THE RUN ON MY BACK--LOL  AFTER I HAVE HIT THE GROUND ON THE ASPHALT APPROX. TEN FEET FROM WHERE I WAS STANDING

! I WONDER HOW I GET TORN MENCIUS  IN KNEES AGAIN !!

then they realize Daddy is hurt and stop and do two laps around one or two legs and decide to race to steps at front door .. with me in DRAG MODE  !!
I REMEMBER THAT PICTURE -MARK WITH THE DOGS ON TOP OF YOU !! GOOD ONE !!  Clap Clap Clap Clap

but you cannot find any better happieness than one or two dogs that devote there life to there master . to the point of getting killed themselves .
THATS DEVOTION & LOVE !! American Flag American Flag American Flag
