IGT S+ loud bells and chimes

I have 6 different IGT S+ slot machines and on one of them the sounds generated is twice as loud as the other machines.  These are the sounds the machine is suppose to make, only a lot louder.  Any way to turn the volume down on this machine?  Please no smart ( wear earplugs) comments.

Do you have a 10Mhz or a 16MHz board?

The S+ 10mhz boards have a dial on the top (volume) and dip switches on the MPU board. Neither of these exist on teh 16mhz board.
With the 10mhz board you dial it manually if its the 16mhz you do it through the setup screens.

How can I tell the difference in the boards?

It goes the the heart of your question. If you have a 10MHz board, there will be a blue volume knob on the top edge of the MPU board (sticking out of the tray that holds the board). The board is most likely located behind your hopper against the back wall, unless you have a very old S-plus,  in which case the board would be against the left wall of the machine.

Simply turn the knob to adjust the volume.


If you have a 16MHz board, there will be no volume knob. The volume can only be adjusted through the menus. There may be variations on the order in which the menu items come up, depending on your SP (game) chip, however, the most common setup will follow these instructions:

Make sure that you have no credits on the machine before proceeding.
You cannot change this (or most any other) setting if there are player credits on the machine before entering test mode.

Open the door and press the white test button twice, or possible three times. (located next to the power switch, or on the back of the box containing the power switch)
You want to press it until you see a either "2    " "   0" in the winner paid/credit windows and a "0" in the coins in window or "5  0" in the winner paid window and "0" in the coins in.
Then turn the jackpot reset key (probably once) until you get "3    n" in the window(s)  where n= 1 through 9.
Use the spin button to change the volume. 1 is loudest, 9 is softest.
When you have made the adjustment, press the white test button once more and then close the door.

The best way is to play with it until it's the way that you want, as slight adjustments can make large differences. There is a small white button on the coin optic board on the door of the machine. Pressing that will add coins as if you had dropped them in and you can then press the spin button to play the machine. Play the machine in this manner with your finger on the knob and adjust slightly until it's the way that you want it.

At least, that's how I do it. Keep in mind that the volume that you hear "behind" the door is not the same as what you hear "out front".
