Using PSP with windows 2000

has anyone figured out a way to use the PSP program under windows 2000? I have heard that there are problems unsing this OS with PSP. I have a laptop at work loaded with windows 2000 and everytime I try to change the con setting to either con1, or con2 old, the window disappears and does not go to the password page. any help would be great. I have an old con2 that took a dump and need to get it back up.

Can you get to the password screen without the serial cable plugged into your laptop?
Try placing a shortcut of PSP program on your desktop and start from there?

If you want to pay for shipping from Canada I would be happy to send you an old laptop loaded with Windows98.
It cost me $30 to ship to Ottawa so I am not sure how much it would cost to ship to the US.

It has a 160mb hard drive, no battery (just covers where the batteries go) there is no built in wireless.
They have 2 PCMCIA slots and 2 USB 1.x slots. I also have the matching port replicator which is necessary to use any kind of networking as there is no integrated ethernet port.
Upon boot you usually get an error complaining about the real time clock and bios information as the RTC batteries are dead.
Some have floppy drives, but most don't.

I have a stack of about 6 of them that I was going to use as control machines for various projects that I never got around to doing.

They are great for PSP (but little else) - I would rather see these go to a good home for the cost of shipping rather than the landfill.

thanks for the offer jay, can you calculate the cost of shipping to the 86442 zip code in arizona? Might even take more than one, one for myself and a new one for the shop. Also, do these have the power cords with them?

I will take thse out with me when I go shopping tomorrow and get the shipping quotes.

They are fully functional laptops with at least 1 power brick each.

If I had to complain about them in any way:
  They likely have IE5, so you end up having to download a newer version but can't access the Microsoft site because your browser is not supported.
  You can't put it on a memory key because the laptop won't accept a memory key without downloading a driver. Most of the newer larger keys don't have W98 drivers.
  MY solution was to download Modzilla which runs like a pig so I could get to the MSweb site.......

I can get to the password screen with or without the serial cable attached, the problem is when I change the option fron con2 over to con2 old, the page disappears and does not go to the password page. even when I change it to con1 and the page disappears, I open the password page and it still loads up with con2.  I have placed shortcuts to the program on the desktop and it does the same thing. The wierd thing is, I also loaded it on the computer here in the shop and it works fine on the computer, but it is a little too heavy to take out on the floor. I am beginning to think the laptop has issues because it is doing some strange things other than this.

Better you run dos directly.

Look for DOS symbol ( all program, accesoriies)

make a dir, a find out where psp is. etc.

I suspect that windows 2000 does not like DOS programs that attempt access hardware directly

XP is better at allowing it, but you must use 32 bit version (none of the 64 bit Windows will let 16 bit programs run at all and all DOS programs are 16 bit)
If is is a laptop and has 3.5 floppy drive see if you can find a windows 95/98 boot floppy or even a dos floppy disk put psp on the floppy and boot from it.
you wont have access to the Hard Disk (NTFS) so anything you need to refer to on the Hard Disk maybe do so before you use the boot floppy.
Forget about using Vista or 7 to run 16 bit programs
