Author Topic: Newbie trying to clear 3300 on a Tidal Wave  (Read 19124 times)

I just got my first slot in my arcade (15 video, 1 pinball). When I picked it up, I was told it wouldn't play until the hopper was filled and that's what the 3300 error was.
I saw the error code sheet inside that verified what the guy said, so I bought the machine.
Now I have it home and can't clear the error.
I have read other posts on the same issue and haven't been able to fix the problem.
Looking at the schematic, it looks as if I could bypass the hopper full screw to ground to complete the circuit, hit the white reset button and when the door is closed, it should reset?
I am about to run through the troubleshooting section in the manual, but it would be great to get help from someone who knows what to do, rather than me flipping through the manual.

If you don't have a clear/set chip, you can take out the CMOS chip and touch the pins to metal for 5-10 seconds.
That will clear the CMOS.
When you power the machine on, I think you will get a 61 error at that point, just hold the white reset button for 3 seconds and it will change to 61_1
Close door and turn jackpot reset key once, reels will spin after a few seconds and you should be good to go.

Welcome to N.L.G.     Clear the ram will get you back to the start but you might have another problem that will just pop back up.
After you put some coins in the hopper(proper size) and close the door, can you hear the hopper running at all ? maybe just a hopper jam or bad door optics.

OK, I cleared the CMOS and what you thought would happen did, so I did as instructed and it worked.
Red was still blinking and I put coins in, but got nothing.
I knew the hopper feed was working during a test sequence, so I looked at the door optics and one of the wires on the cabinet side was broken off.
Is there any way to by-pass the door optic, just to test functionality?

Is the wire broken at the optic or is ther enough of the wire on the optic to repair the break.
If not, bypass will work until you can get a set from one of the vendors here or also eBay.

On the S+ to bypass the optics on you only need 1 piece of wire, but you have to unplug both optiics at tne white connectors or it will not work.
Connect between the Purple wire on the door optic molex connector and the red wire on the cabinet optic molex connector.

This also can be done on the S2000 but you can leave the optics connected.

OK, getting closer.
I hit the jackpot reset key again and got a 3100 error this time, but couldn't clear it while the door optic wasn't working.
Made up a by-pass harness or stripped wire and BAM, 3100 cleared!
BUT, now I am getting a flashing red stack light with no errors!
Sorry if this is basic stuff, but I figured after working on arcades and pinballs, slots would be a snap, WRONG!
Where do I go from here???

If you mean the bottom part of the candle on the top of the machine is flashing.
That is normal anytime door is opened and then closed.
With the exception of a hand pay, usually the door has to be opened to clear a tilt or error condition.

3300 is hopper empty
3100 is extra coin out.

Also the screw with the wire on the hopper tells the machine the hopper is full and causes a coin divertor after the coin optics to route the coins down into a drop bucket in the slot stand.
If you have a used slot from a casino and have the machine lined up on the stand right that means they will fall into the stand, if your stand or table does not have a hole there then those coins will end up under the machine to some extent.

The Candle will flash during a tilt, error, hand pay condition and will flash after you open door and close the door until one game is played.

The hopper screw just tells the machine if the hopper is "too full" and to activate the divertor to divert future inserted coins to the drop box in the stand, rather than into the hopper.


As Foster said, if the bottom candle light (it may be red on your game) is flashing rapidly, that may be normal -- it may just be an indication that the door was just closed -- that will stop blinking after one completed paid game.

I put a bill in and it works great!!
I figured when I put a few coins in and it didn't accept them, there was something else I need to fix, but it must have been that the coin mech needs a cleaning or adjustment maybe, because even now it spits back at least 50% of the coins.
So the last thing is how do I get it to hold credits? It will only accept 2 coins at a time and if a bill is inserted, it only changes it.

Let's tackle the two issues you're having.  First, to get the machine to accept coins on a more regular basis, try replacing the sample coin in the comparator with a nice clean good looking nickel.  Here's a video that shows how to replace the coin:

...you'll also notice that there's a tiny little adjustment pot on the front of the comparator:



Using a tiny screwdriver, adjust that counter-clockwise (away from the +) to make the comparator less sensitive -- that'll let the comparator reject fewer coins.


That does lead to your second question.  Your machine will only accept two coins at a time -- you must spin before you can put more coins in.  You can not add credits to the meter by adding more coins -- the game will only accept two coins -- any additional coins will be rejected to the tray.

You can, however, set your machine to hold credits for winning spins and for bills inserted.  Do you know what SP chip is in your machine?

You can push the cash/credit button before you put a bill in and it should hold the credits from the bill on the machine and hold all the credits that are won.

I ran through the steps but when I got to 4 (displayed coins played), the winner paid was alternating between 4338 and 06. The credits only displayed 0647. According to the steps, winner paid should shift left to right and credits should alternate. Am I looking at the right #4?

How the SP and SS number show on the display may vary between the older SP version like yours and the newer SP versions.
Maybe someone on here will have the PSR for the SP647, If you look in the Upload files section on here for the SS6338 PAR it is there.

Nope, you found it -- the submit a new file section is the right place.


Looking at the PSR, make sure you have zero credits (cash out any credits that may be on the machine), then open the door and use the self test button to get to the page 0 options (the number zero appears in the Coins Played window -- it should be two presses of the button).  From there, turn the jackpot reset key (if necessary) to get to option 5 (the number 5 appears in the Winner Paid window).  Using the "Spin Reels" button, change option 5 to "2" (player initiated noncredit -- meaning the player would have to go out of their way to put the game in non-credit (coin-in, coin-out) mode).  (The number "2" should appear in the credits window.) zero (the number "0" should appear in the credits window) -- if it's already set to zero, you're ready to move on to the next step...

Once you've done that, turn the jackpot reset key three times until the number "8" appears in the Winner Paid window.  We want to change that setting to "1" (credits window) to force all bills to go to the credit meter, rather than them possibly ending up coming out of the hopper as soon as you put the bill in.  Press the "Spin Reels" button until this option is set to "1" (credits window).

Press the self test button one more time to "lock in" your settings (I'm not sure if it's necessary, but it doesn't hurt!), and then close the door -- you're done!  All bills will go to the credit meter, and by default, all wins will go to the meter as well (unless (with zero credits) a player presses the cash-credit button before playing, inserts a coin or two, and wins).

I respectfully disagree about the selection of option 2 as being the best choice. Options 5-1 and 5-2 are still manual modes. With the option set to 5-2, it's true that the game will turn on credit mode by default after the machine has been idle with no credits for 30 seconds, but the player can still turn it off if they press the credit button before play. Credit mode also remains off for the first 30 seconds after cashing out unless the player turns it on.

I always recommend option 5-0, since it is an automatic mode that always uses credits. With option 5-0, pushing the credit button when there are no credits doesn't do anything, since every win will automatically be paid to the meter. When there are credits on the machine, the credit lamp will blink to "remind" the player to cash out. (This is different from options 5-1 and 5-2 where the light is on steady when credit mode is active.)

Of course, these settings are subjective and this is just my opinion.  stir the pot / get cooking propeller


<PS> If you still choose to use option 5-2, I suggest lowering the hopper limit. Murphy's Law dictates that you will end up invariably hitting a large win just at the moment that you decide to play a coin out game, or when you accidentally play with credits turned off.  Tongue Out

I got to the 0 screen, by hitting the test button twice.
Turned the jackpot key till 05 displayed on the winner paid (only the 5 is blinking), but when I press the spin wheels button, the 0 starts blinking and nothing is ever displayed on the credits window?
Am I doing this correctly?
