I have a 5-reel machine that is not lighting the reels when it hits a winning line. I went into the test menu and all of the lights work fine there, but just not in the actual game. Note, they worked before in this game/machine and the SB chip does support the feature. I have triple checked my connections, but still no lights during game play. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rob

***Update***

I have put a working backlit controller card in my (non-working) S2000, 5-Reel machine, but I still can not get the reels to light on a winning hit. The weird thing is that they do work in test mode.

Anyone else have any ideas on what I can look for next? They worked perfectly before I put the game in storage. I don't believe there is a setting in the software, but maybe I'm missing something...

 Help Help Help

Thanks,

Could it be intermittent?
Is this happening sometimes? or all the time?

If sometimes, than the contact wires on the bulbs just need to
be pulled away a bit away from the bulbs base
so they get better contact with the sockets contacts.

If they never come on at all during game play,
but light up during running "Tests"...
I have no clue.

Hi all,

I thought for future references, I would post my fix to the backlit reels not lighting... Bad power supply!!!  Duh! Duh! Duh!

After replacing/swapping almost everything trying to troubleshoot this issue, I tried a different power supply from a know working machine and now the backlit reels work the way they are supposed to.

Thanks,

It sounds like somethings weak in the power supply.
In test mode, the reels are not spinning nor is there any sounds -
basically just the bulbs are lighting up.

When in actually game mode, much more power is
being used and a weak power supply may explain
the intermittent light operation.
It would be much more interesting if you were able to
diagnose the power supply and find out specifically what
component went bad on it so we could have a reference
to fall back on should this happen to anyone else?

Someone with the proper training in power supply repairs
looking in on this topic would be fantastic for all S2000 homeowners!  yes

I wonder if randy fromm ever posted something up about this? Scratch Head 2
i will check out his website today.
He posts some interesting stuff from time to time!
I wish he would come over and visit us here once in a while.

Yes, I have to agree, Randy says that it is cheaper to fix the power supply rather than replace it.

Is there a "how to" for fixing S2000/I-Game power supplies on NLG? I did a search, but just found a few tidbits...

BTW: Thanks to Pete (Brokenticker) for hooking me up with a working PS and other parts!

And this is just how bad my memory is getting in my old age...  Scratch Head Scratch Head Scratch Head

This was a post from last year regarding my topper's LEDs not working: http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=4880.0

So, what did I do at the time? I swapped out the power supply with one of my S2000 games in storage... Now, guess which game this time had the backlit reel issues? You guessed it...

DOH!!! Duh! frying pan Duh! frying pan Duh! frying pan

I have marked it as bad, but I'm still hoping to find some info on how to repair it.

We're going to have to start a CRS club. The only problem will be that no one will remember who the members are, or even that we have a club. Weird Eyes frying pan

At least you now know what happened and how to solve the problem. propeller

P.S. ROB I am glad that your machine is working.. I had thought it was the power supply when mine was not working, but it was the actual backlite board. They see to die pretty easy. We need to get an expert to come up with repair suggestions.
