Hi everyone! I'm back! I had to re-register. Not sure what happened to my account.
I have an older IGT White Diamonds S-plus slot.
I had code 12 and replaced the battery.
I can't get rid of code 61 even after it goes 61-1 and I reset it.
I assume I have to use a clear chip. I have both the clear and set from my previous visits here.
I don't remember what to do next.
Thanks.

If all fails the clear chip but you are getting a 61-1 which is good.  Maybe just try a different SP chip number and if it clears just swap back.

Sorry, I can get thru the basics but not sure what you mean by a different SP chip number.

If your current sp is something like 1271  and you have another one, say a 731 from a different kit. Swap them and see if it clears and if that works, swap it back to original

A clear chip is really the last resort.

Once you have the 61-1, you must CLOSE THE DOOR, then turn the reset key to get past it.

Make sure the door is securely closed with the latch all the way down so they optics line up.  If you are bypassing the optics (you shouldn't be), you must put a working set of optics in the machine to clear a 61-1.

The optics are in and I close the door all the way and turn the key once and the error code goes away but nothing happens with the game and the bill validator doesn't light up.
I try re-powering and the code 61 comes back. The machine has to sit for awhile before I can get the 61-1 to come up when hitting the reset button.

Have you tried just holding the white test button
for like four long seconds to get it to display "61-1"?
Your CMOS chip isn't holding the memory very well...
please check and see if you've soldered in the battery backwards?
Also check to see if any solder is touching other nearby traces or points...
I'm thinking something might be wrong with the soldering job.

I've held the test button down for up to 10 seconds and nothing changes.
The battery is correct and has 3.62volts on the board. Next time I'll get the battery with the tabs already on it.  Duh!
After trying everything again, I got a code 85. When I tried clearing it like code 61-1, it went away but code 61 came back.

I can't find anything either on code 85.
I have the clear chip but I forget the sequence on how to use it.
I know I replace it with on the other chips but not sure which and then what to do next. It's been over a year since I've done it.

Turn off main power.
Remove Game prom.
Install clear chip in Game prom socket.
Turn on power - leave main door open.
Press white test button.
Let program run - observe display.
When stopped, press white test button and run program again.
When the clearing program is stopped, turn off main power.
Remove clear chip and replace with Game prom.
Turn on power.

You're welcome Budman...
Hey! Tell me exactly what you get after you perform the clear.
You may get the [61], press test button once,  then get a [61-1].
Close the door and briefly turn the reset key for a split second...
The reels oughta do their "maiden spin" and ask for ya to "Insert Coins".

It ran thru all the tests and 61 came back.
I cleared the 61-1 and now it says 65-1

I cleared the 65-1 and the 61 came back and now it won't change to 61-1 when I push the test button.

I'd try replacing the CMOS chip on the MPU.
If that doesn't work...the small C024 chip on the motherboard might have bitten the dust.

Here's the other thing,
Are your door optics good?
Because the door needs to be closed for the reset key to wipe out the [61-1] code.

But what's even worse is: you aren't allowed to get to even the the [61-1] now.
I'm suspecting a possible bad MPU board.
Do you have a spare board"?

I don't have a spare board, just the clear and set chip.
Everything worked fine until the battery volts went too low.
I'll look everything over real good and try the clear chip one more time.

[65-1]
Open the door, and press the test button.
IT WORKS!
For some reason the bill validator isn't working now. It humms and whirs and does it's thing but won't light up.
Thanks for all your help. I'll print all this out so I don't have to ask again.

Have you used your set chip to re-enable it?  That's a necessary step after a clear to get the validator to work again.

I've never used my set chip before. I just bought it as a set from someone on this forum.

Now you gotta throw in your SET chip to "enable" the DBV...
Same procedure as the clear but this time you're using the SET.
Can you tell me which set chip you have?
I will have some instructions that will help you.

All the chip says is SET 15.
It's a handwritten tag so I hope that's right.
