I have an IGT S+ machine and the two #86 bulbs that illuminate the the display "$1 to$100 FACE UP" right above where the bills insert into the bill validator don't light up. I've pulled the bulb assembly and tested it in another S+ machine and it works fine so it's something in my machine. I reset the validator with my Set 026 and it works fine too. Any help would be great. Thanks

You didn't say what type BV you have in the machine. If it's a DBV200 there is a connector on the left side back of the BV head. This is usually a black connector with two wires. This is what turns the lights on the BV bezel on. I would suspect a broken wire. If you have a WBA BV there are four or five connectors that come out the back of the housing. One of these is also two wires and this is what turns on the bezel lights. All this assumes the BV is coming ready and accepts bills. Hope this helps.

Does it accept bills?

as I said... the bill validator works fine, but FYI it's a DBV200. what is "not working" are the two #86 bulbs that light up the display that says "$1 to $100 Face Up". (see attached photo) it's not part of the validator at all. it is on the outside of the machine and is above the slot where the bills slide in to the validator. I'm told it has something to do with the main board. just wondering if it's a conection and where to look at the source (not where it plugs into the light assembly itself), a chip, whatever. Thanks

Check the harness where it goes from the cabinet to the door for chafing/cut wires. The plate that everything mounts to (belly door light ballast, etc...) has sharp edges and the harness runs right past it. I've also seen defective sockets for the #86 bulbs, but not just in the BV bezel light. They seem to lose tension on the contacts after many years.

Did you check the connector at the DBV as idylewild1 suggested? If there is a problem there, the light will not function, and since the end assembly at the door works in another machine, I would start at that connector on the DBV and trace towards the door looking for an issue.

The MPU board doesn't directly turn those lights on.  The MPU enables the bill validator, and the bill validator enables the lamps.  Did you check the connector/wiring idylewild1 mentioned in his post?  If so, and they're good,  check to see if you have 7VAC at the lamp board on pins 1 & 2.

I re- checked all the connections to the DBV and best I can tell all is good. It's not critical this light works, but it would be nice to get it back on again since the machine is otherwise 100% functional and complete. I don't know squat about these...just tryin to figure it out if possible. Thanks.

Since you have another machine did you try moving the board from the working machine to the non-working? Those boards do go bad sometimes.

I GOT IT WORKING!!!!!  applause
It was a loose connection somewhere. I just went through all the connections again at the DBV and at the assembly, cleaned them with a little alcohol and a Q tip, put them back together and shazaaaam!!! It's back on. It very well could have been a connection at the DBV as suggested. I never would have thought to check those since I didn't know the display light and DBV were connected. Thanks for all the suggestions. Great site for info Clap[/tt]

OK... something maybe a little more technical now for you guys. As the "cash out" button flashes on and off, the now working display above the DBV opening dims and brightens. What's up with that???

Congratulations!   applause applause  Glad it's working again.  I'd just finished up adding some comments to the schematic for this circuit for you.  I'll post it anyhow, just in case you need it in the future.  Good job!

thanks... I'll add it to my slot file if it's not in my manual already. still wonder why it's flickering while the cash out button flashes though.

It sounds like you still have a poor connection somewhere.  Does the Bet One and Play X Credits lamps do the same thing?

just the $1 to $100 FACE UP display is affected, but it's so slight of a dimming that's it's hardly even noticable. I really am not too concerned about it, but if someone's got a fix it idea I'm all ears. Quite frankly, it's a 15 year old chassis with parts from 1994 to 1999+ and overall it's in pretty great condition. I'll try a better cleaning of the connections and see if that helps. Thanks.

I just remembered something, when I get a bad electrical connection between my truck and trailer, I spit in the plug and plug it back in, works damn near every time. See if anyone can find that one in a slot manual.  Tongue Out Tongue Out Tongue Out

Both of my S+ machines have very slight flickering on other lights when the cash/credit lamp blinks.  Probably trying to drive too many lamps on one circuit.  I'd consider it normal.

Thanks Buzz.... I looked and couldn't find that one in the book, but I'll give it a go. I also heard if I leave cookies and milk at the fireplace before I go to bed and then get up in the morning and click my heels together while saying "I want to go home, I want to go home" it will wake up the jolly magic fairy and then anything's possible... right?  rotflmao rotflmao rotflmao

Thanks for all the suggestions though... I'm so glad all the little lights are glowing again!!! yes

one of the main causes for the lamps not to work was :   the ground for that board is supplied from the bet max switch, there is a connector that has two wires coming off it, one goes over to the lamp board connector. sometimes the wires get low enough that the bezel from the bill acceptor will hit this and break or cause a intermittent connection. I would go to the test # 27  in the inputs test, this will turn on the lamps and you can wiggle and move things around while observing the lamps and see what is causing the problem. ( this test is done with the door open)

I am not so sure that the saliva of mear mortals works, in this case you have to factor in the amount of coffee  coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee that Buzz drinks!!! The coffee in his blood stream and saliva are probably what makes for the corrosive power!  bust gut laughing bust gut laughing bust gut laughing
