Difference between a 10 MHZ board & a 16MHZ board, S+

I've seen  on the Forum that different, I believe GAME CHIPS, will not work  with 16 MHZ boards.
Does the S+ machines come with two types of board?

What is the difference & will either one work on the S+?

What is the static noise from?
It said you can use the 16 MPU board but the SP  chips are more difficult  to match to the game chip. Is that correct?
The 16 board is faster, & better sound, Are their other advantages.?
Does anyone know when the 10 board was changed to 16?

I must respectfully disagree with half of this statement I'm afraid.>>>

The 16Mhz does have a slightly faster microprocessor at 16Mhz, however, the sounds
that are compatible with some of the older SP chips when combined with the
older 10MHz MPU boards - will give you much more varied and livelier sound bytes for certain games.
The advantage for the 10MHz boards is that there are much more compatible games available
for them out there on the internet and online auction sites...

I believe that the 16MHz boards were designed to handle the larger, newer
SP chips later on, to take advantage of the more complicated accounting options that were added to them.
However, these added accounting programs were designed more for casino
record-keeping purposes and are really not needed for home use at all.
Plus, to add these accounting options - they had to make more room on the chips for them.
Thereby, removing some of the older cherished sound bytes.

As far as when IGT went to the 16Mhz MPU boards?
I have seen some S+ 16MHz boards dated back to 1993.
Don't let anyone lie to you and say these slot machines were entirely "Made In U.S.A." because
they all have actual stampings on it that proudly proclaim "Made In China"....LOL

You do not have  to stay with the 10MHz MPU boards...
you may still want to acquire one or two ( for a spare) of the
newer 16MHz MPU boards for the games that need them! IMHO

For home use you're not going to want the 16mhz due to the static sound from the speaker.  In a noisy casino environment you can't hear it, but in your quiet basement you will and it'll be annoying.

Can this "static sound" be subdued somewhat with the right resistor
going inline on the white w/green stripe to the door speaker knagl?
Sort of in the way we modify the S2000's great (highly sarcastic... ) audio speaker configuration?

not on the 16MHz boards Magic, the old 10Hz boards play them combined with certain older SP chips.
