Can anyone please tell me how to get rid of this sound please?  In the attached video all the sound is turned off to the game.  When the reels spin though you hear this annoying buzzing sound that comes through the speakers.  I did the resistor modification and got no results.  Anyone have any ideas?  Some people have told me that is normal reel motor sound but if that is true, why is it coming through the speakers?  When the sound is turned on to the game, that buzzing sound is actually louder than the game sounds.

Thanks
Steven

One more little tidbit that makes me believe it isn't the reel motor that is making this noise.  When you open the door and then close it, the reels when spin automatically before you can play the machine again.  When it does this you don't hear the buzzing sound.  Only when you spin the reels playing the game.  Anyone have any ideas for me?

Unbelievable.  The lack of knowledge retention on this forum is astounding.  First, you were given the wrong instructions for the resistor fix.  Second, your problem is the proc board and it's probably a 501, which is first generation and no fix will cure this problem other than replacing the proc board itself with a 504 Rev. B and trashing the problem board.  Pull the proc board out and post the part number that you'll find under the sound card.  It will be on one of the white stickers and look like this:

P/N: 7551050x REV.x

If it's not a 501 and a 502 Rev. A or B, the resistor fix will work if you do it right.  If it's a 501, you will need to replace the board to correct the problem.  The lights on the backlit reels are the source of the noise, and since they are not lit when the door is open, this explains why you don't hear the noise when you close the door and they spin.  The XE359 bulbs are always on in a dimmed state when the game is playing and cause the sound you are hearing.

As for Brian @ RMS selling a problem machine and subsequently telling you the problem is normal and there's nothing you can do about it, that's unfortunate (and completely untrue).  That must be a change in business practice for him, because I can't remember the last time someone complained about one of his machines.  They're usually pretty clean and work fine, from what I've seen.

His backlit reels are not even working at the moment for one
no lights at all.

Funny any 501 or 502 board I did the speaker resistor fix on worked
maybe that 4 page thread where other member's did the fix is a lie then.

I have found that you do not always have to have backlit reels to have that noise appear. I bet if you remove the sound board, the buzzing will go away. Of course you are left with the IGT legacy sounds, but even that is WAY better than the buzzing. I had a machine that had no backlit reels or the backlit controller, but still got the motor noise/buzz through the speakers. Once I removed the sound board it all went away. I still think you should just get a 504B board and be done with it.

Good luck,

Rob

Thanks guys for the advice....first of all I'd like to make it clear that I'm not bashing Brian or his machines.  The machine works great other than the backlit reels and the sound seems like a common problem for everyone.  I haven't been able to reach Brian on the phone to ask about the reel problem so I'd like to give him a chance to fix the problem.  I think I talked to one of his employees that told me that was a normal sound.  Just wanted to make sure I cleared that up.  When I do get to talk to Brian I will ask him about the 504 board.

I pulled the board out of the machine and I see 2 numbers that look like what was mentioned above.  On the outside of the case that I slid out of the machine said 59734700 Rev A.....then on the inside of the board it has a sticker that says PN 76924400 Rev A.  Would either of these numbers be what you guys wanted to know?

The part number that you are looking for is hidden under the Multimedia Lite II sound board installed on you MPU board. To see it you need to remove the daughtercard and you will see the part number in the upper left corner.
