Ok got a question

Hi everyone, first post here, so bare with me as I am a newb to slot machines.

I bought a Bally 5500 machine, worked perfect when i picked it up, then i transported it about 3 hours north of me to a friend, got it unloaded and set up where she wanted it, plugged it in and it started up, then froze with all lights on like it had a jackpot that needed to be paid out. Read code 81 (battery) so I came back home, and last weekend (3 weeks after i dropped it off) I went to put a battery in it for her, she told me all the lights were off now?!?!?!?   
So I turned it on and sure enough, they were off, and in the credit and coin play line it was all P's I will attach a picture, so i didn't put in the battery. Any ideas on what it could be??? Thanks in advance.

Does the machine have a progressive display?

    No, no progressive display, just standard 3 wheel 1 line pay machine

I would replace the battery and do a full clear, then if the PPPP error persists, we'll tackle it.

Hey, Nice Avalanche...

Ya, Either check the battery voltage with a meter, Should be around 3.6 VDC or just change the battery as Stat said.
If your game chips in U12 and U15 start with ME92000.... Then you can do the ram clear using the jumper at JW10 lower right hand corner of the board.
It will also be marked with SRAM CLR
Search the site here for directions on performing the clear.

Ok, thanks for the advice. Machine is 3 hours away from me, was hoping it was something easy I could have my friend do......she's gonna hate me!! LOL!
Won't be back up that way for a few weeks. But will try that and let ya know.

Bally 5500's are notorious for eating batteries. They can go through one a year, compared to an S-plus, in which batteries can last 10-15 years. I suggest soldering in a battery holder so that future changes can be done easily. Again, as Neonkiss stated, there are instructions on the site detailing a couple of different ways to do this.

Ok, It's been a while, got the battery changed out, but now i need to figure out how to do the ram clear, I am going to have my frien do it, as the machine is at her house, and its a ways away from me. I can't access the manuals etc etc so if someone could post up specific directions, or post a link to where the instructions are located, I would really appreciate it.

Tintman   Look at the numbers on chips U3, U4, U12, and U15   If they are 92000, disregard Bunkers instructions that are posted above. With 92000 you will not need clear chips. Look at Neon's post this thread (# 6)

lol...that's okay! I knew there was another way to clear -
depending on the chips, but you answered it very well!

Bunker, you got it half right.   The button pressing and power up procedures are the same. The only difference is that the newer mains require the clear chips and the older ones use the JW10 jumper.
