Hey guys,

Any opinions on Ceronix vs. Wells Gardner?  I have a 3902 board and I pulled my CRT and it has 17 actual pins and two additional holes where pins look like they would go, so I'm assuming it's a 19 pin configuration that I would need per Suzo's website:  http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/49511000.htm

49-2694-00  17†CERONIX LCD Upgrade Kit For IGT Upright

Anway, I'm unfamiliar with the setup.  Is it just a drop in monitor that mounts on the door or back in the machine where the CRT is currently located?  I've also heard that there is a chip that mounts to the board?  Anyway, if you have any technical details or opinions on one brand vs. the other, I would appreciate it?  Who sells them?  Just Suzo?

You have a 19 pin non-AVP machine.  I don't have any experience with WG LCD's so I can't comment on them.  I do have a Ceronix 15" LCD in my small GK though that I upgraded from an CRT.  It came with the monitor and a new bezel.  It uses your existing monitor shelf, just like the CRT does.  Just slide it into place, replace the bezel, and power it up.  Make any adjustments to suit your eyes, and play.  Really simple.  I did not get a chip with mine, and didn't see a need for it either, it looks great.  Ceronix has a good warranty, 4 yrs I think, and then a pretty cheap flat repair rate after that.  You can order direct from them if you want, www.ceronix.com, get the phone number, and give them a call. They sell to individuals. The price is probably the same as Happ, but if you order from the factory they'll have records of your monitor for warranty purposes.

I agree, Ceronix is the way to go.  Me, too! Me, too!
I picked up the 15" for my GM and man, what a difference. The viewing angle is less than a CRT, but with a 4 year warranty and the brand name.....   It took less that 10 min from un-packing to turning on power.   Installing the new bezel took the longest time   I'll post pick sometime this weekend

Do these monitors work with the existing touch screen? Or do you have to replace that too?

The touchscreen and controller are pre-installed with the Ceronix upgrade kit.  It's plug and play so to speak.

I talked to a tech at HAPP acouple of months ago about some of their clearance lcd's and inquired about the $130-150 price jump I noticed on the lcd monitors. He told me that at the beginning of the year they started getting lcd's with a newer technology, better clarity, resolution, longer life, etc. and he blamed the increase on that. The drop-in units for I games or 550's were $500-550, now they are in the $700 range. The tech also told me that all their clearance items were the old tecnology but still new units.

I went and priced them on the site. Probablya good price, but pricey.. Hopefully my existing one lasts awhile when i get it and the money I put into it can be built up for an upgrade from the piggy bank..

i think there was another discussion awhile back that i posted my opinion on the WG vs. Ceronix LCD's but no biggie, here it is again.

we've had both brands of LCD's on our floor for 4-6 years now, running 24/7/365.  we have replaced a higher % of WG monitors than Ceronix by far; and the video quality degradation on the WG's is far worse than the Ceronix.  we usually pay a little more for Ceronix kits but just like anything else, you get what you pay for.  the warranty is awesome for Ceronix so for my casino that is a factor as well.  i can get parts for both brands to do repairs myself but i have Ceronix inverter boards that have been on the shelf for years whereas i am continuously purchasing WG inverters to keep enough on hand for inevitable failures.
both brands offer "drop in kits" that are equal in ease of install so that isn't much of a factor in my purchasing decisions, both have replacement touchscreens available at comparable pricing as well.
to summarize, if i had unlimited funds i would pull every out of warranty WG off of my floor and replace them with Ceronix in a heartbeat.

g/l...and remember; no matter which LCD upgrade you choose, it will be far superior to the CRT you've been staring at for hours at a time!

Agree with Post Agree with Post Agree with Post

However, my NEW Ceronix LCD just went black. Comes on every now and then. Looks like I'll be placing a phone call to Ceronix in the morning.
