I have two S2000 machines with Back-lit reels.
Questions is,
The D.D. Haywire back-lit reels  have a black backing, laminate, I guess,  the reel strips are glossy & the symbols are cut out.  The other is a Double 3x4x5x Times, the reel strips have a Matt finish & the backing is white, no cut outs for the symbols.  One set of reel strips are Brand New, the other is like new. 12/06.
The Matt finish lights up very bright. The glossy ones are bright but not as bright. I know the bulbs in the D.D.H. are #359. I would assume the D3x4x5xT. are the same.

What's up, Are there any pro's & cons with the Matt finish, white backing,  vs the gloss finish, black backing & symbols cut out?
thanks for any help.

I'm wondering if it's more of an optical illusion. Scratch Head
Try removing the middle reel from the bright lit machine and sticking in the reel
from the darker machine and see if you get the same visual results?

See if the middle one looks as bright as the 2 outside ones.
Don't remove any strips, just swap the middle reels
from each machine with the strips already on them.

The White backed strips are not back lit strips.

All S2000 back lit strips are the black on the back and you can see the symbols from the back (cut out)
Some Vision strips are gray backed ones and can be used in the S2000 back lit with decent back lit results. some light will show in the white areas around the symbol.
The white backed ones are allowing more light to show around the outside of the symbols I suspect.

I believe these are white backing on the back. No cut out.
These are a little different.

Those super times pay strips aren't backlit.. as you can see by the "glow" around the symbols when they're lit up. On real backlit strips there isn't any glow around the symbols when they're lit from the back

I think those were the original strips that came with the game. The strips look brand new though. The machine came from  Las Vegas . Double3x4x5xTimes. Multi-demon. $1& $2, Ti, To. No scratches or blems anywhere. 12/06. Now it's a $.25, $.50, $1.00, & $2.00 with hopper, but haven't use too many  coins, don't want any scratches.
Next time I go up to Black Hawk, I'll double check their  reel strips. They have some  of those machines in different demon's. I'm almost positive they are like mine.

thanks again,

I was thinking that because of the bar symbol, the letters look like they go closer to the edges.  The symbols are quite visible from the back of the strips also in the pics.  If it was a non backlit machine they would look fine, and they aren't so bad as backlit, but when you have one right beside the other it would stand out.

Thanks

I agree^^^ The green is the wrong shade...supposed to be a lot darker shade.
I have strips similar to yours...they're not the cool looking backlit strips.
However, with that said - you CAN make yours backlit and this is one way to do it>>>

You need to make a light table like the ones photographers use or architects.
Some people just throw a fluorescent light in a cardboard box and place a sheet of glass over it.
Lay your strips on it face down and the symbols will be semi-transparent
through to the white backing side.
This part requires a steady hand and a patient mind.
Outline the symbols with a very fine tip/point black marker.
There are usually 11 symbols per strip.
You need to outline all 33 symbols. ARghh!!

Now, tape the strips down flat with some painters tape on each end and
start painting with a fine brush, the entire back
of the strips either gray or black using any type of plasticized paint like
they use on dirt bike gas tanks.
This type of paint is resilient to cracking.
It dries to be almost rubbery in touch- but not quite.
I thought of trying some black truck bed protection paint but believe it would be
too thick and would be needed to be thinned down.
Just don't paint any of the symbols!!!!
Let the strips dry overnight and re-install them back on your reels using
the notches and in the correct order they were taken off.

Now, when the machine is powered up and you hit the 3 7's,
they will light up like you've seen in the real casinos!  yes

I had a set that I really wanted to do and just haven't gotten around to do it yet.
But this is what I would do.

I had thought of using a printer's  copy program and trying to
produce a "symbol stencil" but getting the exact correct
print size was exasperating at best.
Then I would just cut out the symbols and use some double side
sticky tape over the backside of the symbols and just spray
paint the entire strips with black spray paint. NAH!
Using the right kind of paint with a fine brush
and taking your time is the best way to go.

Thanks Bunker,

I'm going to post if some one has any pics of the correct backlite reel strips for a DOUBLE3x4x5xTIMES.
My entire machine looks like a reproduction. Date 12/06. The Panel where the buttons go has zero scratches, the cabinet & inside the machine looks new. The 044 or 040 board 's #'s match the machine. It also looks new. The Bill V. sucks money real fast. There is a black flap of material covering the fluoresced  Belly light & a larger piece of black material covering the entire florescent light  bottom glass. I'm new to the S2000's,  they are cool. I just curious & trying to learn as much as my pea-brain can hold.

Those are EI non-backlit repro strips.  I had a set just like them.  I bet if you open the seam where the 2 ends of the strips come together you don't find IGT part numbers on the bottom of the strips.

If I had enough nerve I would take one strip apart. They fit real tight & I don't want to brake the seal. They do look a little different than the originals, but appear to be brand new. & I like the colors of the strips, very sharp.  I'm going to leave a sleeping dog lie.

Could you tell us who EI is & are the reproduction strips water proof & are they still in business?
I want to thank everyone for their help.

Express Imaging, still in business but no longer making IGT strips.  Don't get those strips wet, they are not coated.

I would like to thank Ken from Ohio Gaming.

He sent me a set of the original strips, Double 3x4x5x Times. They look real nice & shinny. I'm just waiting for a set of back -lit reels to show up to install them on.
thanks again Ken.

You'd think in this economy IGT would be willing to deal with any home user that's registered with the DOJ. It'd be pretty simple, they could do it via email only and have 1 account rep for all home users and home vendors, they'd make a fortune, especially with the $125 per set reel strips.

Just think if they let home user buy any thing they sold including leased games.
I am sure the owner of the trademark would want a small fee or fortune to allow it but they would probably allow it.
