This question really deserves to be made into a topic on NLG so people can help.
a member who just got himself a couple of  new machine but has some
problems and emailed me asking to see if I could help.
I feel that it's much better to post this out onto the open NLG forum in the correct thread of topics.
His machine is a Bally 6000.
I'm assuming they're reel-based machines.
Here is the question that was asked.
I left out people's names and other details not related to the problem.>>>

These 6000's I got from him come up w/50 code.
I pulled wires out the are not used.
When I do a clear it comes up for date then code 50.
I do not know what I did but got one to work.
If you have any suggestions I would appreciate.

This was my answer and suggestions to the fella>>>

Basically, code [50] means the door is open.
The code goes away when you close the door.

If not, then something related to the door is amiss.
I'd check out the door optics first and make sure they're aligned
correctly so the eyes "see" each other perfectly.
Sometimes, the only way to see this is to remove the bell glass so
you can peek down inside to see where they are.
Physical measurements  of the exact locations of the door optics are difficult at best -
that's why I remove the belly glass.

I loosen the screws first holding the optic mounts and use my fingers
holding both optics and tracing a fine point marker on the optic
holders to make sure they're lined up.
then I open the door , line them up to the marks I've made on the
frame and tighten up the screws that hold them in place.

If you are certain that they are lined up and the [50] does not go
away with the door closed, then try this:

With the door open, hold in on the door's cherry switch with
your right hand and peer around to the front and look at the display.
Does the display ask to "Please Insert A Coin"?
If so, then the MPU components controlling the door optics are okay.
Now you KNOW that there's something wrong with
either the emitter, or the receiver optics.

This would be a good time to turn off the power and make a
door optic swap with a known good set of
optics to rule out the door optics being bad.
This my friend, is the fine art of troubleshooting a machine....lol

Thanks Bunker--I'm awake again-Now I realize what I did to get one working.
I had another board I accumulated along the way some month ago. That is the one I got it working on.
On the boards that are in machine- I clear--set time-put in 2003 mains & code 83F-1 comes up.
I put in the 2005 mains that were in machine & it will not go into setup. I don't remember what came up.
Tonight I'll get back @ them and see what happens. Have to clean more wire out of other machine's before I
try this board in them.
Thank's again

Here's a sheet of error codes for your machine.
I strongly suggest you leaves the extra wiring that's installed in the machine
until you can get the machine up and running.

It was relayed to me that it's very possible your door optics are tied into
the extra wiring somehow and when the player tracking euipment
was removed - it affected the door optics.
Work on the main problem first! -  then you can rip out wires!

Okay, I want to direct you to the sheet I've uploaded below.
The error code [83F-1] means "Invalid Main Eprom".
"Wrong Main Eproms Detected After SafeRam Clear".

You need to tell us exactly what the numbers are on the labels of those
eproms you're changing out in order to help you any further...
Some one will be able to verify whether or not you have the correct ones in there or not.

What game exactly are you trying to get running?
Is it a Bally 6000 reel game or a Bally video machine?
Please try to answers these questions as best you can.
Remember, the more you tell us - the more we'll tell you!  yes

I warn you....I am no Bally 6000 expert.
I presently have one in my workshop that I'm fooling around with.
There are way better qualified guys out here on NLG that may be able to help you!

I don't know what I'm doing besides going over & over.
Got rid of 50 code on all but one.
Have to go over bill acceptor on one--goes green when starting up -then goes to red X. Have to pull & check wires.
Thanks Bunker
PS--what I had that was on chips is all that I could read. The rest was gone

Check your dip switches on left hand side of board where you set dip 8 on and off for a clear I think 1 to 5 or 6 should be on for crazy Kops

Thanks Paul. I have to put other dip switches in. The ones that are in have tips broke off.
I thought I'd try with the ones that are in first. I got the Krazy Kops running now with coin.
Having a problem w/bill acceptor. Have to check the wires

Weeeeeeeel I'm still here. Making progress. I have code 5.0.29 -- Communication between the bill acceptor and the machine has failed.
I switched Things around with other machine that works.  Tried another acceptor that works in other machine and same code comes up.
Dip switch is set for WBA which is what is in.
I don't think I screwed up on set up. Just about have chips wore out from going through setup so often.
Thanks for any help, Ford

Did you try putting the BV from the non-working machine into the working machine?  Does it work?

If not, I might approach this as follows:

1)  Carefully inspect with flashlight and magnifying glass the harness from the bill acceptor to the mother board.  Check and repair any breaks or minor slices.  Clean all electrical molex connections with deoxit or equal.

2)  If that does not work, move the main board from the working machine to this one.  Does it work now?  If not, move the BV from the working machine to this one with the moved working board still in the machine.  Does it work now?

3)  If not, remove the existing back plane (mother board) and replace with the one from the known working machine.  Does it work now?

does the code change when you close the door?  I would suggest you look at the door optics and the harness.

Thanks,

Did you try putting the BV from the non-working machine into the working machine?  yes. - Does it work?   no

If not, I might approach this as follows:

1)  Carefully inspect with flashlight and magnifying glass the harness from the bill acceptor to the mother board.  Check and repair any breaks or minor slices.  HAVE TO DO.  Clean all electrical molex connections with deoxit or equal. DID

2)  If that does not work, move the main board from the working machine to this one.  Does it work now?  NO   WHEN I DO #1 REEL KEEPS SPINNING. If not, move the BV from the working machine to this one with the moved working board still in the machine.  Does it work now? NO

3)  If not, remove the existing back plane (mother board) and replace with the one from the known working machine.  Does it work now?  HAVE TO DO

I realized that 3 BV do not have eproms in.  Thought had to reprogram to get the one with eproms in to work. reprogramed ,
When I turn it on - reels spin -BV cycles -- code 50.29 comes up then goes out. face of BV doesn't show anything. Does not take bills or coins.
I tried my BV from game maker -- same thing.

I don't think your BV is the problem.  Before changing out the backplane, instead first, per A69Mopar earlier post, first try inspecting both door optic wires and trace back to the back plane.  Swap the door optics themselves off the working machine and put onto this machine.  If still a no go, since this is a communication error I would swap back planes as they to go bad on occasion, although rare.

Maybe I should put game eproms from one that doesn't work into the board I had that works and try that.

There are two types, although similar, of BV's, WBA 12 and WBA 13's.  The only difference between the two is that one uses a Eprom and the other has the information flashed right on the BV's board.  The 3 that do not have a "eprom", do they even have a socket to accept one?

I'm not sure why you're changing some of the settings from the default, however if these are working in your other machines then they should work in this one.

On DS3, turn switch 5 to on, install your known working BV, and do a full clear.

Did you do this with your known working board?  If so you need to go to A69mopar's comments about checking and replacing out optics with know working ones.  And then proceed to my comments, checking harnesses and swapping out the back plane with know working ones.
