Fruit machine my tail feathers !!

« on: August 10, 2010, 04:35:36 PM »

My Vision does not currently have lighted reels in it. I would like to change this.

If I put in lighted reels do all S2000 Visions have the ability to use them? If my Vision doesn't have this ability 1) will I hurt anything by putting lighted reels in (to test) and 2) what would it take to make it have this ability?

There are limited Vision games that support backlit reels, most are the last games that were released for the platform. In the 3 reel machines, Ms Little Green Men, Pink Panther, Mata Hari and Munster Match come to mind. Using lighted reels with not supported games should be no problem that I'm aware of.

Does your machine have the backlight controller.. a small box that sits just below the reel shelf on the back wall of the machine and the I/O that plugs into the outside of the tray

Brianzz brings up a good point. Reels, controller, harnesses need to be added or changed as well as the I/O if it isn't already there.

BrianZZ

Thanks for the photos. They certainly make things clearer.

It appears that I have part of it, but not all of it. It looks like the I/O is there, but no harness.

So does that harness just plug into the I/O? Then where does it go?

I know these were all covered in the first day of Slot Machine school, but I was sick that day with the 'vapors'.

You'll need the harness and the controller, you're missing all of those. Best bet would be to find someone parting out an old machine and get the parts from it. Back in the day you could get some parts from Katrina, knock the rust off of them and use them.

Edit: Looked closer and you already have a card plugged in

Brian   I thought you were required to have a card even if you didn't have back lit.  I have one machine in the house that doesn't have back lit, so I pulled the I/O out and got a meter disconnected error.   Scratch Head Scratch Head

The backlight harness plugs into your card, most of the time. Thanks for the part numbers Ron all my stuff is at work

Hello all!

One note - there is a power connector that is part of the wire harness that comes from the power supply behind that reels that plugs into the backlite controller board.  I have run into a few older Vision machines that did not have this power connector.  I believe if it is missing, you can splice into exisiting wires - but it maybe something you want to check into....

All S-2000 need the Cabinet I/O, the Backlit uses a Harness from the Cabinet I/O to the Backlit Controller, befor eyou go buying stuff that won't help you, what Vuision game are you going to use, if you are using that Bonus Wheel Double Diamond Deluxe you have pictured you are out of luck, also Non Backlit Reel Strips are a bit wider than Backlit, (see Tacmans Post above)

You will need the Mounting Bracket and Cover for proper Controller installation as well, or have seen other makeshift ways of mounting (Double sided Velcro...boogieeeeee), the I/O harness to Controller, Reel Harness, Controller, Reels and if you do not have the Bat Ear Speakers on the side of your Top Box then a Power Harness or Power Tap Harness as well

On to Blue Ridge's previous post I am looking at the pictures of the cables.

The double ended cable goes from the I/O to the contriller. But there are 2 places on the controller that will accept the plug from the I/O. Which one is correct.

The other wire bundle starts with the multi pin black plug (like a computer's floppy disk mother board plug) behind the main MB on the back wall of the S2000. The next are for reel 1 - 2 and 3 in that order (?) the final plug must go into the controller, but where?

 - Dorothy

p.s. I know that I need to get a power cable for the project as well.

p.s.s. Pictures would help me.

Just count the pins on the end of the cable and match them up   The 14 pin goes the to cabinet I/O and the 12 pin goes to the 12 pin on the controler.

Note that each connector has a different number of pins so it's impossible to connect to the wrong connector unless you force them in.  Just match them up and you will be good to go.

Thanks to Blue Ridge and Cowboy Games I got the backlit reels installed and working fine.

Since the S2000 is basically a computer that makes the reels spin and FF in hexadecimal is 256 in decimal. I assume that each reel has 256 "stops". The reels on my Vision are off by one or two "stops". The center line does not line up with the center of the symbol. as it does on my standard S2000. I can't say if this happened after the reel change or was always there. I thought perhaps I got one reel strip installed wrong, but it is on all three reels. It doesn't impact the game in anyway and none of my friends will ever notice it, but it isn't "right" .

Any thoughts on the cause or the fix ?

The symbols lining up issue is probably your reels have slid down a little from the notch.. you and pull them back up or leave them be.. Mine are off a little too but once I think about the PITA is it to take the strips off and put them back on I live with it.

The 256 virtual stops correspond to the physical stops, not to stops in between the symbols, so the issue with the symbols not being centered is probably a physical issue between the reels and the strips.

(Off on a tangent) The virtual stops allow a "virtual reel strip" with 256 symbols, and they can change the numbers of each symbol so that it appears more or less often than the other symbols, thereby changing the payout percentage.

Lower percentage payout chips usually have more non-paying virtual stops, and the higher percentage chips will have more low-paying combinations, with the same chance of hitting the big awards. (at least that's the way i understand it)

Hope that makes it a little clearer..  Professor

Thanks "B" boys - both of you.

O.K. without bringing up the lyrics to an old Olivia Newton John song ---- It's physical.

Brian I have to agree that the whole reel strip installation is a huge PITA and so I'll just live with it until I can't.

The virtual stops do include the blanks in between the symbols.  Lower paying games have more blanks in the stops.
