Taking my wife down to Vegas this weekend and I think we're gonna stay at the Luxor.  Any suggestions on cool new things to do/see...besides the "indoor" life?  Wink

Any feedback by you hooligans would be appreciated.   Hail

Sadly the Luxor is not the same as it used to be. I remembered when it opened and it was full of Egyptian themes, etc... Now it looks like any other casino on the inside...  hissy fit hissy fit hissy fit

Go to the Pinball Hall of Fame! http://www.pinballhall.org/

Eddy

Red Rock Canyon is really beautiful, just remember to take lots of water.

The Stratosphere will tie a high tech rope to you and let you jump off their roof and control fall all the way to the ground.

A 2 mile zip line is to be had at some canyon I can't remember the name of.

NASCAR laps of course.

Fremont Street experience.

Hoover Dam tour.

and the world famous "Frank's Casino Glass"

p.s. Whoops !! you said NEW. Forget everything above.

If you are heading out to Hoover (and even if you don't) the NLG command center is in Bull Head City is a good drop in point.

Bull Head and Lauglin share opposite sides of the Colorado River. They have a barge that will take you across the river and on both sides. You can also rent Jet Skis very close to Joeys shop.

(Not in the same direction) There is the Valley of fire which is an interpertaive trail.

Outlet Shopping.... which is semi-out doors.

Not sure if you are much of a lounge lizzard but you can go on Craigs List and get line passes to many of the night clubs at a discount - lets you walk in like a VIP without spending 2hrs waiting at the door with the less than pretty people.

There is a place that you can go and shoot fully automatic weapons of choice. It does get expensive when you spray 50 rounds a second but not many places have that assortment of weaponry.

The car museum at the Imperial Palace. They also have a show called legends which is all the star impersonators and its like $22 for the VIP tickets. I have seen it a couple of times and most of the acts are quite good albiet I usually find the monroe impersonators a bit cheezy, last time they had a Leno impersonator hosting the evening and he could have replaced the real leno  and no one would have known.  Its a good "filler" when you don't feel like shelling out the $180/head for the cheap seats for a Cirq show.

Sounds like a great time!! Enjoy yourselves and gamble with money you expect to lose. Then if you win, it's a bonus!!  yes

I can see The Valley of Fire from the front porch.
Funny, now that we live 45 miles from Vegas we rarely visit the strip casinos like we did when we lived in MI.  no
Going to Vegas on Wednesday to pick up a washer & dryer from Home Depot. No gambling on this Vegas trip.
Never thought I'd say that.

Many of the off strip areas have very liberal Blackjack rules compared to the strip casinos along with $3.00 minimum bets and such.
Sign up for their players card and you get deals like double your win on a black jack etc.

Most of the strip has 6/5 blackjack which takes a good % away from the player. Ie 6/5 means you bet $10 and get paid $12 when you hit a black jack compared to $3/2 which pays you $15
Continious Shuffle machines (this is where they put all the cards back into the machine between every hand).
-- Note this is different than the shuffle masters which simply present the dealer with a randomized shoe.
Most of the strip has eliminated surrender

Good to check out the web site called wizzard of odds.

Here is the deal.  I live withen 15-20 minute drive of aprox 40 or so heavy-hitter-real-deal non-bingo casinos-well-established.  I did have a gambling problem about 15 years ago.  I do not anymore,  I just build/play with these now.  Point being is I can go any time I want,  They all have the latest and greatest.  We do not go that often at all---When we do I like to "Blow-it-out" and go full tilt.  That is on special occasions and again only a 15 minute drive for me on those occasions.  B.

Jason-

I'm out there myself starting this Sunday.

The Pinball Hall of Fame is fantastic -- if you're into pinball, you're gonna love it.  Plan to spend a few hours there at least.

Make sure to see the fountain shows at the Bellagio, as well as the conservatory inside the lobby of the Bellagio.

I agree with MrBellMan -- the Luxor isn't spectacular.  If you've got your heart set on staying there, ask for a tower room (rather than the original pyramid rooms which are well worn).  If you want to stay on the strip, I'd suggest MGM Grand (awesome pool complex) over Luxor.  If you don't mind being off the strip, the Golden Nugget downtown or The Orleans (just west of the strip) offer a good combination of decent rates and good accommodations.

Will you have a car there?  If so, don't miss the M Resort.  It's about 10 miles south of everything else on the strip, and it's awesome!  Take I-15 south to the St. Rose Parkway exit -- you'll see the M Resort as it's the only building around there!  The buffet there is really good.

As Jay mentioned, if you have the time you won't be too far from the nlg command center near Laughlin.  From Vegas, it's a day trip (ie. you'll need to devote a day to going there, as it's a 2 hour drive south from Las Vegas to get there, and 2 hours back, plus time spent in Laughlin).  In contrast, the Hoover Dam is only about 35 miles from Las Vegas, so that's something that only takes about a third of a day to see and get back.

Make sure you plan to spend an evening downtown.  The Fremont Street Experience has a light show every hour on the hour until Midnight.  There's a sheet of coupons for downtown you can print out here (use your e-mail address as the e-mail, and " realvegas " (no quotes) as the password).  Speaking of coupons, depending on how long you're going to be in town, you may want to consider getting an American Casino Guide book which is full of Vegas coupons.

Good luck on your trip -- win big!

See it before it goes down the dumper.
It's still a "Class Act" at this time.
The Buffet is to die for.......

Heard on the radio yesterday that The Bellagio buffet was #1 and The M was #2. Not sure how the vote was taken.
I've had The Bellagio's (fantastic!) but have not yet traveled to The M.
Need to get over there!

Thanks everyone!  I have printed off this thread, coupons, etc!  You guys are awesome.  I get there Friday night and depart Monday at 5:00.  Gotta put an agenda together!  NLG is in my sights next time I visit my folks in Phoenix.  We usually drive by Kingman...isn't Bullhead City close to that neck of the woods?

Thanks,
Jason

That's too bad.  I've been reading the rumors for a few weeks now.  This will be our third stay there -- we've been getting good marketing mailers from them with a couple of free nights each time, but I suspect that the days of those mailers may be numbered.  I hope I'm wrong.

Once we get into town and I have a better idea of our schedule, I'll PM you (Kirk) -- it'd be nice to get to meet up for dinner again if time permits for both of us.
