Hello all!!
Not new to slot machine repairs but new to IGT machines. I have a Universal Captians Loot machine that Uniman helped me repair and has been working great ever since. I just bought 5 IGT machines; Triple play"slant top", Lucky Seven"slant top, Double Jack Pot"slant top", Bally Bob"slant top" and Triple diamond "Round top". I'm not familiar enough with the series yet to know if these are S S+ or S2000 if at all.
The question is about Triple Play BV. When the machine starts the BV goes through the start up nosies but when the machine finishes booting the BV light in front of the dollar chute does not come on like the others machines do and it won't move at all when a bill is inserted. The unit is a JCM WBA-11-SS with ver 3.10 on top tag. All the dip switches are set to off and the lenses seem to be clear and clean.
All the connections seem to be fine and since the BV goes through the start up mode I assume the power supply is fine.
Reading through other post in the fourm I saw where there was mention of a clear chip?? Not sure what thats about.
Sorry to ask this question again if it's already been answered but I have been unable to find it. Please direct me if so.

Thanks in advance
Rodney

There are actually two chips that you want to have in your arsenel. Set and Clear.

The clear chip that you mentioned is handy for clearing errors that just don't want to clear. This chip is for taking all the settings back to factory default and wiping the CMOS (Game memory).

The set chip and there are several versions of the set chip. Is for setting the denominaion of the machine.
Basically the S+ works on credits. The Coin Comparitor doesn't care what coin is there 1coin = 1credit.
However when you use the bill validator how many credits do you get for a buck ??
If you use the Set chip to set it to a 25c machine you will get 4 credits for a dollar.

Set 15 (older) only goes to 5c, while the newer Set 26 goes to 1c.
If you are playing with progressives AND you have a newer game chip like the 1271 you need the Set90 to set progressive options. If you are not playing with progressives then the Set26 or 15 will do you just fine.
All of them activate the bill validator. The Set 90 does not work with older game chips like the 1271

To help you out here......

S series don't use a Bill Validator.
S+ & S2000 look similar from the outside but the S2000 have what look like stereo speakers.
Inside the S+ have a single tray with large knob to lift out the MPU board.

Thank you Jay for the quick responce!!!

So I assume by your description these are all S+ machines. All have the large knob to lift MPU out.
Also thank you for the description of the set and clear chips. How would I go about obtaining these chips?
The {game Eprom is SP731} and {Reel Prom is SS 3509 (64)
                                                                7A00-95.059}

Also the tag in the center of the MPU board MB82110
                                                              75505704
                                                              REV B 7/93
I checked the cash box switch also and it works like it's suppose to. There is one molex connector that has nothing plugged into it. It comes out of the back where the validator connects in the back. Have pic below colors of wires blue, purple, gray. Theres no other wires or connectors near it that look like they should connect there. Is the one not connected normal?
If so then I think all it may need is to be setup. Lol that will be my next question!
Thanks again Jay

Please do not pull out the MPU until all the power is switched off.
You will damage the computer components if you do.
Use proper ESD static equipment.
IF not, make sure you ground out yourself to the tray before handling eproms.

Anyways your advice is well taken!!
Do you know where I might obtain the set and clear chips I need for the machines I recently purchased?
Thanks Rodney

Yes. Place an ad for your needs in the "Classifieds" section of NLG.
Vendors are always looking at those threads so they can help you get what you need.
Make sure you put down the numbers of your SP Game Eprom so
they can match you up with the correct SET and Clear chips.

None of the DBV145 or 200 will like the new $5 bills, IGT did not allow the release of the update by JCM.
IGT wants to retire all S+ to the landfill or scrapyard.

OOPS

I forgot that.
IGT probably didnt allow any iD 22 or 23 updates past a certain date or such.
I could be mistaken but it was the understanding I got from reading some of Op=Bells posts.

This is true for the DBV series.

Please see the following post (knocked my socks off).
http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=9061.0

Apparently the new $5 is available for the WBA series.

Same here

If I was desperate to have WBA-12 in my S+ I would do it.
It is not worth it to do the conversion for home use.
Jim's price to do the conversion is fair.

Welcome to the world of S+ machines.  They're like tanks -- once you get them up and running, they stay up and running.

Do us a favor, please.  Don't use the clear chip!  It should be a last resort, and is typically almost never needed.  If you run into a problem in the future, start by posting here.  Eventually you might get prompted by someone here to use the clear chip, but only in rare cases.  Because it clears all settings, it typically creates more work then what it would take to resolve the issue in the first place.

In addition to what Jay posted on the first page of this thread, one of the easiest ways to tell the difference between an S+ and an S2000 is the blue VFD (vacuum fluorescent display) that all S2000 machines have in the lower left corner of the reel glass (and zero S+ machines have).
