I am pretty new to this but after reading some post I am now confused of what to buy.  A friend of mine told me to buy an nxt board and choose from some of his game titles but as I see on here, most are saying forget the NXT and go for the Bluebirds.  Can someone tell me the difference and is there a big price difference.  I also saw that you can convert a 550 to CPU/NXT.  Can anyone tell me how that works?  T

Thanks!

Welcome to NLG, jacquelynqc! Well, I guess the first question would be if you have a 550 already. If you do, then a CPUNXT conversion board would be what you would need. This CPUNXT board replaces the MPU & I/O cards in the cage and allows you to run (certain) NXY games on the 550. This board usually sells in the ballpark for around $2000. If you don't have a 550 already then you're looking at another $1200-1800 for that, depending on condition. A Bluebird cabinet will run you in the area of $4300-5000, again depending on condition/features. When I say the 550 will only play certain NXT games, there are games that require a EBB (extra bet button). The 550 does not have this feature and as far as we know, cannot support one by adding it. Although not all Bluebird cabinets have the EBB either, I believe the hardware can be added to the cabinet to in effect upgrade it to utilize that feature.

Now I am confused, I saw you other post where you claim to have 2 3601 CPUNXT machines already! I assume you are just trolling for prices then???

Yes I do have some 3601with NXT but would like to see the price difference in the 2 type of cabinets (550&3601).  Also I am hearing much about these new BB's and I am interested in seeing which would be better for me to put my money towards.  Converting a 550 to NXT or staying with the 3601 with NXT or just going ahead to looking into these Bluebirds.  Not sure what to do so just looking for some advice and price. lol  Anything helps.  Also  do you know where I would be able to find a CPUNXT conversion board?

at this point I wouldn't invest in a 550 cabinet if you don't already have one.  To the best of my knowledge a 550 with a next board is going around 3 bills.  Save the money and get the more flexible bluebird cabinet which you can also upgrade to cpunxt2 when it becomes more affordable.

There's a thread on here with my conversion notes on my 550 cabinet, you can read up on it to see what's involved.

OOOOHHHH, AAAHHHH!  Wished I lived in a state where I could just go and pickup stuff like you.  I'm just wonderig on that game, do these new BB cabinets that don't have the top glass anymore and just use an LCD, does the machine boot up if you don't use the top LCD?  Or does it give you the communications error present when using a dual screen game?

Yes, just boot the machine with a single game card in it. Leave a valid card in the Tsy Tsy Fly board and it will ignore the upper display (it will show it's boot up message)
The single screen game WILL run as normal on the bottom monitor Smiley

I've seen versions of the Fishing game that used those, and I think the eBay slot game does/did too.
