 Help

Well I had some bad luck tonight. I turned on my reel touch after 4 days off and got the same RAM error that i have been getting all along.  I replaced the battery hoping that this would fix the error but it didn't.  When the machine is off for a few days I get this error when powering up.  I key the machine and it works but I would like to fix the problem.

I loose all the accounting stats after the key.

Unless your CMOS is corrupt (doubtful), it is losing it's memory because the battery backup is not there for what ever reason. I would double check to make sure the battery is in secure and the voltage is making it's way to where ever the voltage goes. Use a meter and test some battery traces on the board. I remember you had success not too long ago when you put in the new battery, so I'm hoping for your sake it's something real easy to fix.

Don't reel touch games have 2 batteries.. one in the top box and one on the bottom?

There are two batteries that I know of.   The top box has a battery for the computer - that was replaced and is working fine.

I'll check the battery on the MPU again but it was attached very well  - and when I turned the machine off for just a few hours it came back on without the error.

It seems to pop up only when I have it off for a few days.

When you pull the MPU  you will see 2 batteries.
One is s small lithium battery about size of quarter, that is the one you want to check.
The other is green and looks like small pack it can be removed. It is only to power circuitry that monitors the doors when the machine is off.

The round one is the one I replaced.

I still don't have my multi tester to test the battery.  I'm 99% sure it's good though.  More likely my solider job could be bad.

Well two years later and I just started to get the same error again!
 -  I replaced the old battery with a nice replaceable battery holder for easy replacement.  I also tested the battery voltage and it is 3V.

It's annoying because I loose any credits that are stored in the machine.

After the RAM error the machine displays that it has an eeprom mismatch or system error or both

A reel touch mpu is simply an s2000 mpu right?  I may try to replace it

I had this problem and thought the ram chips were bad so I replaced them and it was fine for a month or so, then the board completely failed. You may have a bad MPU
