S2000 reel cleaning problem solved .... I hope

Ok guys after much trial and error and more than a few reel strips I think I have the proper cleaner for the dreaded S2000 reel problem. TEST THIS BEFORE YOU GET JIGGY WITH IT TO MAKE SURE IT WON'T RUIN YOUR STRIPS. I have been using Oops gum and goo remover to clean my strips, to this point it has not ruined one strip. Only use the Oops with the pour spout, don not use the spray Oops. Post result here so we can determine the sucess of the solution. If it works you can mail me all your treasure .....

I don't have any myself, but here's hoping that your "solution" works for all those out there with the crappy S2000 strips!

OK, how do you apply it and how to get it off?  Also, that stuff really smells bad so does it leave a residue after you clean the strips?

apply to a clean non lint forming cloth, do not apply to the strip, gently wipe the strip down. don't put too much on the cloth, it  doesn't take that much. It will quickly evaporate after cleaning the strip, leaving no residue

I thought ANY liquid at all would destroy the reel. The goo on the rag must evoroperate before wiping.

Sorry, no offense but I am VERY skeptical of this. I would not do this until a regular member has attempted on a "test" strip and reported back. If confirmed you will receive many kudos.

Any goo can easily come off with rubbing it off with your fingernails and thumb...
be sure to clean your fingernails afterward with all the water and soap you want!

The problem I see with most of these old strips is the fading...
I saw a S2000 Double Diamond Haywire on a live casino
floor last year that looked plain terrible!
As I played it (It felt like playing with a piece of junk!)
all I wanted to do is go home and play with mine...

Agreed.  I have dabbed my finger in water and BARELY touched the reel.  Gummed up a little spot with the slightest touch.  I won't even attempt any cleaning with ANY liquid until I know that there is somebody out there that can either replace or make replica backlit strips for my machine.  So far, it looks like replacements for a RWB Big Times machine are nowhere to be found.

Sorry, no offense but I am VERY skeptical of this. I would not do this until a regular member has attempted on a "test" strip and reported back. If confirmed you will receive many kudos.

Saw a lot of those in Vegas a couple of weeks ago man.  They felt like old worn out machines with those ultra-faded trashed reels.  I'm surprised those that are in charge of "casino floor image and detail" don't replace those junky things.

I didn't want to use up what brain matter I have left on cleaning reel strips. I just dust them with a swiffer cloth. another thing that works really well for dusting is a bounce cloth that are used in the clothes dryer. Another good use for the bounce is on your TV screen, NO static.

OK i did have a brain storm. I seem to remember my kids playing with play dough, that's most likely misspelled (maybe I'll ask Staz)  boy I do digress don't I   Back to the point I'm trying to make. If I remember correctly the play dough would lift up quite a bit of dirt. ( that's not worded quite right but you get the idea ) I think the next time I go into town I will try to find some and give it a try.  Maybe I will send my Son, If they see a Old Bastard like me trying to buy play dough I might end up in a loony farm some where !!!

Seriously, when Buzz mentioned using Play-Doh to pull dirt off of the strips yesterday, it occurred to me that Silly Putty might work well also.
Of course, there's a chance that it could take off too much. It could take off some of the ink.  ??
Some brave soul could try it...

So we're at 18 replies already. Has anyone else tested the "Oops gum and goo remover" to see if it works?  

As always, the idea would be to take a strip that's not that important or is already kind of messed up and try it on a small spot before diving in.

Non-laminated, water soluble S2000 reel strip owners only need "apply".

I was going to make the Silly Putty comment last night but I was afaid to... Here is why now that Silly Putty is out of the bag:

I was going to tell people that as a kid we used to take silly putty and roll it out flat and then push it onto the comics and it would give you a reverse image of the comic when you peeled it back. It was cool! The reason that I did not want to post about it was that I got a picture in my mind about a bunch of people posting that they tried to do that process with Garfield on the Front Page of NLG, but that it did not work!!!

I would try it on a more common easily replaceable strip from a 3 reeler.......
