Why would this be?

So I have recently bought 2 slot machines from the same vendor and arrived to me about 2 weeks apart. Both are Bally 6000 and are setup for coins. 1 has coin optics and the other does not. I'm puzzled, isn't the optics a necessary part? Interestingly the one without the optics board works perfectly but the one with the optics keeps giving me errors 20 and 24

It looks like the machine with the Micro Comparator (MC-16) doesn't need a separate set of optics because the MC-16 eliminates the need for them.

From the MC-16 documentation:

CREDIT SIGNAL
The CREDIT signal is an output which occurs for every valid coin that is accepted properly through the mechanism. A
CREDIT is generated by the internal microcontroller only when a valid sense pulse is matched with a corresponding
optic pulse. This close control between the sense signal and the optic signal allows more accurate monitoring of coins
through the mechanism. The CREDIT signals are buffered and therefore are fixed in length and duty cycle regardless
of coin feed rate.
