Just wanted to give some recognition and thanks to Rob at Rocky mountain Slots. In the past 2 months I bought 2 slots from him and the transaction was smooth and seamless. The second one arrived and soon after the coin comparator started acting up and giving me errors. Quick call to Rob and he's sending a replacement out to me.

So I finally got the replacement coin comparator and sadly its not the same as what was in there. This one has built in optics while the original had an external optics board. Of course the wiring is different so I need a new harness setup. Anyone have one for sale?

Just tell Rob to send you the right Comparitor. What kind of machine are you working on??

Its a Bally 6000 Double Wild Rose. I get the feeling that maybe RMS are too busy and I think I should try to find this harness elsewhere.

Outsider There is a thread going on right now about comparitors. Bunker just posted a Bally 6000 use a CC 16 D 24 Volt. If this is what you removed from your machine thats what you need to replace it with. If all the above is true, PM me your address and I will send you one, no charge.   Buzz

Hi Buzz,

the one that was originally in the machine is a CC 16D 150 4b 24vac 14g. This one has external optics board. I can only pot in a couple of quarters then it faults out with code 24 or code 20. Rob then sent me a CC 40 which has internal optics and uses a different harness. I took the comparitor and harness out of my other machine and it works fine. its a MC 16 240v and it has built in optics.
I hope this guy doesn't get pissed at me for posting the pm he sent me.  I couldn't ans. it last night, the power went out and I went to bed.

In reading this PM doesn't it sound more like a coin optic problem rather than a comparitor problem ??

I guess we don't know what the original problem is, other than the first post where Outsider said that his comparator was giving him a lot of errors.  Since he originally had a comparator that didn't have optics built-in, the only "error" he could have had was that it was rejecting coins that it shouldn't have.  As such, I agree -- the optics (and not the original comparator) might be the issue.

We won't know, however, until Outsider returns to this post and can elaborate on what the original problem was.

Where's Wayne when you need him.   I just looked at outsiders profile and he lives North of our border.  I'm 99% sure Wayne told me that Canadian quarters are not made consistent and difficult to use in a slot machine.   Jay ?????????????

This is true, but let me clarify.  Quarters of the same year have the same metal content, however the variation in metal content over the years makes it a wide spread for coin acceptors.  Canadian casinos used tokens (before TITO) and avoided this problem.  I like to use the IDX X-10 coin acceptors for this reason.

As soon as I got the machine, a bally 6000 double wild rose, it was giving me errors 20 and 24. I cleaned it and made sure there was nothing interfering with it but the problem continued. RMS then sent  me another coin comparator but this time it was a CC-40 which from what I can tell has built in optics and thus a different harness (?) if thats the correct term. I think this new one will work if I can get the proper harness. I hope that makes sense.

And thank you very much to Buzz for your most generous offer.

I should also add that my other machine which uses a MC-16 works just fine with Canadian quarters

Can anyone tell me if those optics are the same as a 5500 ( in the pic. looks the same) if they are I think I'll just send one of them to. Just in case  !!!!!!!!

Outsider  I'm still going to send you these parts, but while your waiting for them, do me a favor, the adjusting screw on the front of the comparitor turn it CCW all the was then back toward + just a hair.  Unplug the coin optics, remove the two screws, and the board will be in your hand, clean the optics and reinstall, if I'm right it should work like a brand new one.

Just a shot - is there a prism behind the coin-in optics bracket?
It may be misaligned?
