Keeping the years down is hard, but staying young

« on: September 17, 2010, 05:51:08 AM »

Hi all,

I need some drastic help with some of my PE Plus Pokers. I have 3 mainboards that give the following symptoms:

1. All buttons and test button doesn't work in test or when door closed.
2. Monitor is blank when machine switched on.
3. Door open error all the time.

I know it is the boards due to swapping these boards between one machine to test.

I have ram cleared to ensure that it starts clean.

Any info on what components to replace on the Main Boards would be appreciated.

Found a fourth board with following problem:

None of the buttons work, but the Cancel Credit hardmeter gives a hard click when the test button is pressed.

I would start by removing the boards from their trays and making sure that they don't have ground issues.
Put the boards into a known good tray.

I would change the game chips out to a known good set - I have seen stupid things like a bent pin (doesn't look bent) but its tucked under rather than in.

Next please clarify if these are superboards or the older style.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you know you have a door open error all the time if the monitor is blank?

Hi,

These are the older style boards and they are 4 separate boards that's why i can get a door open on one board and no monitor display on another board. What I have now discovered is that "someone" (as always this Tech has disappeared of the face of the earth) plugged the button light cables onto the micro switch on the buttons and that in turn fried the Q5 transistor. Only problem now is that I have replaced it, tested all tracks to be okay, but the problem remains. Only thing I can think of is replacing the following components:
MOC3031
MOC3030
HP 6N137
4610X-101-103
8X-2-511
L9236H
ULN2003A
2N3904

I have ordered them and will keep u guys posted. Any more suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Oh yes, I did check for a grounding issue on the board and chasey, but it is clear.
