S 2000

I have two S 2000 machines, same game, Four Times Diamonds 9" and 16" glass. The other day the 16" I found bent pins on the MPU. I straighten the pins did a clear and key. in boot up was getting a eprom error. Removed all the eproms and read them with the burner all read good. Reinstalled the eproms.  So I get the bright a$$ idea, put the 16" board in the 9"machine, it worked fine, no problems. OK installed the 9" in the  16" machine got the same eprom error as the other board. Now I know this is BS because the board was just working in the 9" machine. Let me recap the 16" machine had the bent pins and it's the one that keeps getting the eprom error. My next brain storm was, bent pins maybe a bad mother board. Removed mother board, and didn't find anything wrong with it. Reinstalled the mother board and MPU,  the machine booted up just fine ( I did have to go back and do a key menu, machine type not set ) The only thing I can think of that fixed this machine is one of the molex going to the mother board must not have had a good electrical connection.   

Now the only reason I'm posting this is to make a point, even though the display tells you you have a eprom error, that doesn't necessarily mean you have a bad eprom.

Was it an EPROM error message or EEPROM error message?  The EEPROM is on the backplane and normally those errors can be reset by turning the jackpot reset key.

I don't remember the exact error it was, I think it said something like  X 0 4 or maybe it was X-4  I spent about a hour trying to get it to clear.  On the first boot up I got the horn, turned the key 3 or 4 tomes, press white botton, close door, call attendant. after all that it would go to error without closing the door.

The first error was probably a RAM error.  To clear that one you have to turn the key, push the button 2 - 3 seconds and then close the door.  The second one way most likely an EEPROM error message, that should clear by turning the reset key.  If not, perhaps it was somehow electrically damaged by the bent pins on the MPU board.

Well I'm now using all the original parts and the machine is working fine. When I reinstalled the mother board I didn't even clean the molex connectors.
