S2000 keeps doing a "General Reel Tilt". I open the door, turn the reset key, push the restart button for 3 seconds and it happens every few pulls. I do not have a manual, any ideas?  Scratch Head

To start, I'd probably pull the reels and inspect them for any wires rubbing, strips seated properly, etc, and then reseat.

I believe you'll also get one of those if the machine detects a door opening in the middle of a spin.  If your door optics aren't aligned very well, or if the door was just barely closed, a vibration could cause the machine to think the door was opened mid-spin.  Make sure to get that latch all the way down when you close the door.

FYI - if a reel was rubbing on something, the error would specify which reel had the issue by #.

If multiple reels are rubbing, it will give the general error. If it only detects slow speed on one, it will give the specific number.

Well, lucky me, I'm now getting a General Reel Tilt about once every 10 to 20 spins.   hissy fit

I followed the advice here about removing the green battery from my S2000s.  Two of my three boards had "fuzzy" battery junk on the outside.  I got all three off the boards without incident, but on one of them I could see there was a fair amount of battery "fuzz" (dry acid, I'm guessing) on the board.  I did my best to blow it off.

On the board in question, I could even see that some of the plastic of the board was starting to peel up, and I could see the copper traces.

Sure enough, on that board, I'm now getting a General Reel Tilt every 20 or so spins with the display flashing "Door open MB" even though neither the main or bill doors are opening mid-spin.

Am I screwed (ie. I need to buy a new MPU board)?  How much did not leaving well enough alone with that battery just cost me?

Do you have a spare board to swap with to see if the reel errors come back?

Kinda... I have another machine with a working board, but I don't have clear/set chips yet.  I presume I can't just put the other machine's MPU board in and it'll fire right up.

Also, the machine never had this problem until immediately after I removed the green battery, likely working the acid into the board with the back and forth motion, so it's a pretty safe bet that it's the board.

Knagl, how did you remove your green battery?  I went with the usautoservice method and used some pliers to twist it off.  It really was like removing a piece of butter...nothing that seemed harmful.  Did you de-solder yours?

Thanks,
Jason

I used the method of using a really tiny screwdriver to get between the battery and the solder points and prying, then once it was released from one side, bending back and forth rapidly on the other side until it released.  I was careful not to scratch anything, but I'm really bummed that I converted a board that was still working into a non-working board.  That's a $100+ alteration that I would have rather not made.

The funny thing is I've never removed that green battery from my boards.
I didn't see a reason to - as they appear to look fine.
Should I ever need to take them off, it will be easy to do using a soldering pencil.
They don't have to be de-soldered really...all is needed is to put a little heat on the two pins and pull.
Whatever solder left behind will not hurt at all, as long as it's not a big glob shorting out 2 traces.
Twisting them off would work too, providing one doesn't pull up all the surrounding traces as well!  Tongue Out

Knagl,

Did you try cleaning the area where the battery acid has leaked
I like to use a fine toothbrush with rubbing alcohol until the area is clean.
Then of course wipe it dry and give the mpu another try.

In time that leaky battery would have caused you problems
but I would never pry or pull the battery from the board that's only asking for problems
with a broken trace or damaged board.I always take the time to pull the board from the tray
and de-solder it and at the same time install a new coin cell battery at position BT1

Kevin  I think your yelling "Wolf" to quick !!   Forget about removing the battery and go to the steps normally used to clear a reel tilt error. (dirty reel optics, electrical connections, interference, etc.) If a trace is good enough for 20 or so spins, it's not the problem. IMO

Now giving the board a blow job is not good enough !! Any acid that got out of the battery and onto the board needs to be neutralized. You can use a mixture of baking soda and water, or use Pepsi or Coke. Q tip are something like that works fine. Or like Tim suggested a toothbrush ( use your wife's, you don't want to get yours contaminated )

I disagree with Tim on replacing the coin battery. I don't throw away a good fitting pair of shoes because I have worn them a few times. Same holds true with a battery, if the voltage checks out good, find someplace else to practice with your soldering iron. ( Bunker made a house out of paper clips )

I was told by a source that fixed boards with acid problems
that putting the boards in the dishwasher with clean hot
water and allowed to power wash. Then a 2 or 3 day air
dry out in a dry area works very well.

Still need to repair the damage after cleaning.
Baking soda will also neutralize acid.

Coke works very good but you have to make sure you get all
of the syrup off the board and from under the chips.
Syrup can attract dust and then moisture can collect
causing shorts that can damage delicate circuits

I wasn't saying that the coin cell needed to be changed
but anytime I have to take the board off the tray to de-solder the green battery
I spend the extra few minutes and replace the coin cell too with a new holder
and a fresh clear as well, this way I know the board has no issues with the green blob
or a old and soon to be failing coin cell,of course if you don't have the soldering skills then don't do it.

I thought he posted the mb and tilt error's started after he removed green battery not before.

By the way...It was a slow day at the office.
So I was trying to show some guys how to make a box outta paper clips

Correct.  I suspect that I jiggled stuff around near those traces enough to finish the work the acid had started doing.  I will try to clean the board tonight, let it dry, and then post an update.
