I have a 1994 IGT S. I had just recently replaced the battery on the motherboard and the optic emitter. The machine was working great for about a day. I noticed that none of the LED numbers were being displayed. So, I powered down the machine and powered up, nothing. I checked to see if the self test key would work, and now it doesn't. I have checked all of the wiring, fuses and to see if there were any loose coins causing a short. HLEP!

Do the florescent lights work?

Have you checked the fuses with a DMM to be sure they're not blown? You can't always tell from a visual inspection.

Are you sure that you have an S and not an S+? If not, read this post by Jim.

I do have a bill validator and I have the "S" manual. Might be a dumb question, but, where can you get a DMM?

If you have a built-in validator then you have an S+, NOT an S.

That being the case, in addition to checking the fuses, you should check the power harness to the motherboard. It's a good bet that that is your issue. This problem has been covered many times.

Here are two threads on this issue:
S-Plus display board, displays nothing but dark, no reading, no nothing
Burnt connection on S+
