S2000's though...I haven't seen as many posts around it on these machines, but I suppose it's possible?  Is it reel noise or noise coming through the speakers?  If the door is open and you perform a reel test, are they reallly noisy?  Like the following S slot in the following video?

The stepper motors on the S2000s seem noisier to me than the S+ machines, at least in my limited experience.

Interesting.  My stepper motors on my old S were obnoxious...until I applied Bunker's fix per the link above.  My S2000 are actually really quiet.

its not speaker noise, but nothing like the sound in your clip, just like a whirling dry bearing in the motors.

If lubrication would help, I hope some of the reel motor experts chime in.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think you can lubricate an electrical stepper motor.

There are 2 sealed bearings on each end of the stepper motor housing holding the main axle in place.
These cannot be "oiled" or "greased".
If any liquid of any kind gets into the stepper area inside - it will wreak havoc with the stepper timing.
You will end up having reel errors after reel errors.
The best thing to do is get the motor replaced and hope it's not as old and worn as the one you have now.
It will be a lot easier getting a $10 stepper complete than trying to locate the bearings and changing them out.

I tried getting new bearings for a Bally 5500 stepper motor and it was no fun trying to locate them.
Surprisingly, it turned out that the bearings were the same as a certain brand of roller skates!

I put a brand new set of reels in my Cleo and they still make an audible sound when they spin albeit less than the old ones did. Mostof the noise you hear is coming from the baskets and not the motors. As the baskets get loose on the motor shaft then you get reel noise. I've been told this is particularly problematic on the 5 reel slots. My 3 reel s2000's don't make an audible noise when they spin.

I purchased three newer 2008  backlite reels of e-Bay. They were newer than my old ones. My old ones had new reel strips on them & I didn't want to break the seal to change to a different strip.
The 2008 reels made a dragging noise, I couldn't find any marks on the reels. Took them out, examined, the usual stuff.  Just made sure they were seated back as far as they could go. Played a couple of months & they smoothed out, now make only the very faint stopping sound. Maybe they were too new & had to break in. My other reels are 2006 & 2007, very smooth.

You have to double check for any loose reel basket parts that are cracked or loose pins. I had two reel baskets that the pins just came loose, not broken. easy to glue back.

Thanks, been thru all that, have a new set of 5 coming, will see if it takes care of the problem.
