One of our members is looking for a programmer and emailed me this question.  I told him, it seems a lot of members have a GQ-4X,   I have a Batronix BX 40  Anyone have any input as to what to look for?   Help Help Help


 Well here my question?
What do I look for in a chip burner.
There are so many to chose from.

The GQ-4X was fairly cheap and does a wide array of memory
devices especially when you get the expanded kit.
Combined with the hex editor free program -
you end up with an awesome chip reading/burning system! Cool Thumbs-Up

I agree - the GQ-4x does everything you want to do in a single unit burner - I write eproms on it and does a wide range of eproms.    I have a BYTEK that I use for gang burning.

 Me, too! I have used the GQ-4X for years now. Just be sure to get the optional 16bit eprom adapter as that is a must if you need to backup S2000 and GameKing/iGame eproms and key chips.

I use the big brother to that one: TopMax.

It programs a lot of oddball microcontrollers, PLA/FPGA, fuse-link PROMs, and ancient/oddball EPROMs that others won't touch.

The short list of items it won't do can be done by an ancient programmer I keep around... with the exception of the oldest of the old: 1702/1702A and that era of -48v program voltage chips that you have to put the voltage on the data lines.

I've been using the GQ-4X for almost 2 years and have been very happy with it, especially for the price.  Cool Thumbs-Up

Mine seems to be much slower than Buzz's high end Batronix, but in my case I can't be sure if it's the burner or the bus limitations of my laptop, which I know to be slow. It doesn't really bother me because I don't burn 8MB chips on a daily basis.
