I have a Bally 5500 machine that went completely dead – no error codes just dead.  I replaced the power supply and it brought the machine back to life with this problem.  When I insert a bill, the validator will take the money then beep turn red and blink 10 times and not issue credits.   Sometimes after it blinks it will return to green sometimes I have to reset the machine to get it green again.
Could it be the mpu? The validator?  Power Supply? I don’t even know where to start.

Thanks!

Hi,
Type in "UART"on the Happs search box... not "UART U34".
The "U34" is the mark on your board next to the chip.
I noticed at Happs (on the third page,on the bottom, items #53, and #54) a couple of UART chips...however,
without looking at your board, I dont know which one to buy.

Well I'm sad to report that I just replaced the chip U34 and still have the same results.   I put in money - the machine takes it - Beeps and the DBV blinks red 10 times - no credits or error codes.    Any other ideas?

Grrrrrr... I just replaced the entire MPU and I still have the same problem.  So now I guess that the issue is with the DBV200.  Is there anyway I can trouble shoot it?  I did read some of the other posts and the manual - but I don't have a test led to see what is going on.

Well I got it working -

I don't know if this had anything to do with it but here is what I did -  I removed the dbv and jiggled all the wires

hooked it back up and went into diagnostic mode (press test until 3d shows up)  then i put in a bill and it displayed the correct domination.

Closed her up and - working slot machine with bills!

For future reference you might want to download the manual on a DVB-200 off of JCM's web site.

I wonder if you have a loose connection or a damaged wire in the validator harness? If the problem comes back that's the first thing I'd check.
