I think the farther back you place it the higher it needs to be.  The problem with that is that it may look a bit awkward.  There has to be a balance between how far back it goes vs. how high it is otherwise it will look strange.  That's the problem with trying to make it look integrated with the RT machine.

After thinking about it 4 X 8? base would fit in the middle on the top where the candle is.  Then a box to hold the display sits on the base but the display is out at the front of the machine and the back lines up with the back edge of the base.  The box floats on top of the base with the base set back an inch or 2 from the front. The candle then sits on top of the box.

Have you thought about getting a slot topper and putting the display inside of that with a long cable down to your top box ?

Jay, I've been thinking about it but I haven't seen a topper (on ebay anyway) that would work without making a mess of it.

I had considered a topper mount for my roundtop and I had actually started working in it.......started with one of those "card sharks" toppers  that has a really cool blue and white super bright LED star (under the plastic) and a great set of chasing LED's around the outside. The plastic peels off fairly easy leaving a perfectally sized clear plexi. What concerned me was the amount of heat generated by the fluorescent.............and then I came up with the perfect topper for a Volcano game.................the lava lamp! So the topper......when I get a picture that will look good....will be on top of the 5 times pay double spin.
I will have to make a modification to the one I use (round top display)  because of the lava lamp....so the one I use will have to be real close to the front and fairly low if I do not plan to remount the lava lamp. So I was thinking of a universal box for the meter and just change the base............that way it would work on more than just a round top. Idesigns idea about the 8" base to cover the candle hole sounds good.........I'M going to put this on paper and post it so we can simply draw on it any changes that we come up with.

The Captain wanted to see a few pictures of the Nascar trophies that I do.................too busy this year so I had to turn them down,........... but up until last summer every wood based trophy given away at Texas Motor speedway and the Craftsman series nation wide (Not the carved boots) had been made by me. I know that this is supposed to be Mikohn stuff only.........but you know that the Captain always gets the final say on the ship..... so avast ye swabs and heave too.......the next post will have some........well.....non progressive stuff.    Tim

Yeah, looks like there are some mounting pins on the top of them for the LED display.

Excellent job. I hope your name and number is engraved in the bottom of each one of them.....

So with respect to the card sharks and other toppers that you bought from PAfund (Jeff - the lady selling them calls them casino toppers) what did you use to mount them to the top of the slots. there looks like there should be a matching bracket that interlocks.

The depth of the topper would accomodate the display. I agree that the floresent (round) tube would likely have to exit but you would have enough with the outside chasers + the mikohn down the center that backlighting would not be a priority.

I will try and post a picture later.

Good call but I don't think that base will mate up with this topper....

Here is how one of those Mikon minis would fit. Severed hand as shown ....available at Wendys collect the whole set.

If this is progressive............IM  KRAZY!

Tim,

What are you talking about being off topic... I think that the trophy's look very "progressive!" (Think more of the word as an adjective than a noun!)
(English teachers wil probably correct me here!)

Thanks for the pics, they look pretty cool. My Sister and Brother in Law would go crazy as they are complete and total NASCAR freaks!!!

Back on topic of the topper with the mini display idea.... What if you took out the circle flourescent lamp to give you more room, and then put in some rope lights to get backlighting back in there with less heat problems???

Hey Jay.......Thats a Jeff foxworthy just like I have and the 15" meter that works with the CHAMII is a perfect fit for the lower rectangle.................but I decided that I would keep Mr Foxworthy on there.........after all......he fits the GO BANANAS that I have him mounted on. I used the candle bottom, drilled and and inserted 2 1/4-20 carrage bolts (The bolts that have the round apx 1/2" diameter head) and put nuts on the inside of the 16" top.....worked perfect and holds great!  The same would be for the Card Sharks. The pigtail runs out the back...I used some decorative wire tubing and ran it back into the hole that the candle would normally sit on.
Hey.......speaking of Go Bananas....I think my machine actually is going bananas! If you remember I have said that it has a strange kind of haywire sound .........were it plays a kind of "flight of the bumble bee" song mixed with the haywire jumble. On Monday I was testing the input to the CON2...watching the meter accumulate money and the machine played a song (one of the 8 or so that the 4th of July has) wile it was spinning the reels. Is it supposed to do that .........or maybe the game chip is going? Is there a way to post a sound clip?
Also.....   ..........I finally have the CD that has the graphic files library on it. It also has a program called "Crosstalk -terminal emulation program used to communicate with the supreme board front end software". Any body heard of this? It apeares to be a DOS program with several PSP's like the Mikohn software has.
This CD has all kinds of stuff.............1 X 3, 2 X 3, 3 X 3.................background files, PDF files, Bailey games, IGT games: 35 different IGT ones....and most are in 1 X 3, 2 X 3 and 3 X 3..... Storyboards all the way up to 3 X 7's
Sigma games, Aristo...whatever that is..there appears to be about 50 of them, Poker games, A bunch of Bally games...............theres even Saturday night live stuff on there!   Some of the coolest is 2 X 3's......like Addams Family.  Well.............he does have a 2 X 3 that he wants 1000.00 for....GULP!
I will try to get a few loaded and a picture or so posted later on when I'M through working in the shop. And I will be mailing copy's this weekend or sooner........Off to load one now!     Tim

Hey, looks like a lot of fun.

I received the CON2 from April today.  It's not a CON2I, it's a CON2A. Been looking through the manual and can't see much difference except for the number of connections on J1.

Congrats! on getting the CON2!    I have been looking at the manual also and ........I hope I am wrong about this....it looks like the A model has to be an AI model to communicate with an IGT S+. The I models have a different IC layout that is based off of a CMOS 555 switching IC (N/O...closing triggers coin in)...basically a no brain one way communication relay. I do not see this on the A model unless it is based off of a different chip.
FYI: I will be mailing out copy's of the graphic files this weekend............ Goodnight!    Tim

Tim,

Wow that CD seems to be endless with all kinds of cool stuff! You are the Master at it now! It looks great on our 1X3, I can't imagine what the stuff will look like on the 2x3!!!!!!

I was also thinking that you may actually be able to join the 1x3 and the 2x3 together and link it all so that it actually becomes a 3x3!!!        That is like a "widescreen TV" Slot graphics display... It would be getting closer to the sign that Slotness (I think) pointed out to you earlier. The one with the Burger on it.

Once we have figured out how to make our own graphics files I have an idea for a display graphic that you may like :

Have a Cessna flying across the screen with an advertising banner hanging behind it like the ones you see flying around advertising in the sky. It could say

"SKY HIGH JACKPOT IS CURRENTLY $XX,XXX.XX"

Tim, where are you getting this from?  The only reference to IGT is a typical connection using and I model.  Maybe the I model was specific for IGT but it doesn't say anything about this in the manual. On page 6 of the manual it does show a difference between pin1 on both the A and I models but it just appears to be the difference between 1 and 4 coin inputs/jackpots connections.   Can anyone else confirm this?

I can't fire mine up cause April forgot to include the power supply so I should receive it in a few days and find out.

Jay sent me info on another forum for gaming and casino people.......they have dozens of Mikohn manuals.......I will burn some on the disc that I am sending you with the graphic files.  I went into this serious because I was thinking of changing my standalone to a multi . And I'M sorry to say that I have confirmed information that the A will not communicate  to an IGT S+.
Look at the wire diagram for the IGT machines..............(.actually I was wrong....I meant to say that it has to be a I or IF model to interface with the IGT's) and then look at the board layouts.  The I and IF models have several rows of the CMOS IC's directly in front of the large machine interface plug (J1)...... the leads go directly to the CMOS IC's. That is because the IGT is primitive to the other machines out there....and uses the same pulsed N/O to Closed signal that the coin in mechanical counters use......Sorry ................Think of the A model like you would a CHAMII, and the I model like you would a CHAMII+.  I had a chance at getting an A model before I purchased my I model.......The seller would not sell it to me because he said that I would not be satisfied with it......and he refunded me my money. Now the A model will still send info to the CHAMII+ units but will not read it from them..............the CHAMII+  coin in info is strictly standalone.............even in a linker setup. And as far as I have researched there still is one way to use this with an IGT................but the machine has to have a tracking device that speaks the same language and is deigned to interface with an IGT......(It says Bally protocol)...that goes to a central information gathering device....I believe JOHN on Ebay has one of these up for auction now....and this information is then shared with the CON2 and other linked units via something they call a router. As to how this works...........................   .

I wish I had better news for you......sorry!   Now If we could figure out how the Bally machines trigger a coin in...........and come up with some kind of interface to the IGT..........???

I'm sending back to April in the mail tomorrow in exchange for an I.  There is a document in the download database regarding Mystery Jackpots with and IGT.  It describes that the IGT will work with a CON2A but when the machine locks up it implies that the CON2A won't get a jackpot signal.  It then goes on to describe how to built a devised to make it work, sort of.  I'm not interesteed in building anything to make it work "SORT OF", not that what these things go for.

Oh............forgot to say that I am using a universal power supply (Fry's...radio shack etc) on my unit that is 12V DC 2.5 amp............center positive. About 25 bucks.  Then momentarily connect  any pin after 9 to pin 1 (Common) . Thats all an IGT does except for a jackpot signal which is closing the machine out with the serial out for 3 seconds.
And....................IM GLAD that APRIL is exchanging  this..........   .COOL!

Just sent if off to April this morning.  Ordered lots of connectors from Mouser.com.  Hopefully I get it back and the connectors by the end of the week so that I have it up and running by next weekend

I have all 6 machines linked for coin out but I still need to link the CHAMII+ units and the 2nd supreme and 2 X 3    I have comming.
I just picked up a box of CD's .............Burn time!

I ordered both the AMP IDC and the Molex KK type.  I'm not crazy about the IDC type cause they can work themselves loose, but the KK type are a pain if yo don't have a crimp tool.
