Good call Jeff, but no need for that just yet. Need to contact the seller to find out what he wants to do.

Yuk

Yeah, the big cap's got a large dent also  and it's been ripped free of the solder pad on one lead down below. Moving the cap makes it work/not work completely. If that's all the damage there is, I'll be getting off lightly.

I had to replace one of those caps myself.   But the question is if you just replace the cap will the entire display then light up?   Does moving it around make it light up?  Those yellow terminating resisters may still be working even if they have be cut.

If I wiggle the cap it goes from nothing on the display to the corrupt display in the picture. That's why I'm thinking a resolder or replacement of the cap, along with the 25 cent resistor pack might fix it.

I sent an email and it looks like I'll be able to work something out with John.

That Capacitor is nothing more than a filter Cap. The display should work even when it is out of circuit. If you are seeing the display go dead when you move the cap, I would assume that the capacitor is shorted and should be replaced.

You can test the entire panel, one section at a time, by using one of the test modes on the Supreme controller board.  You can even use a ChamII plus just to test the panels in test mode.

That way you can see exactly how much of each panel works correctly.

Already used test mode, it's either totally dead or just the botton half lights up in yellow, no matter the display mode of the test.

i got the OK from John to replace the resistor pack and cap. Hopefully I'll be uploading pics of a working display.

<edit>

So, new resistor pack in, cap removed (was leaking @ the bottom around the leads), no display. Going to get a cap now.

Have you tried to swap out some of those ICs on the piggy back board?   Most of them are easy to obtain.   That's what I did you make your meter come back to life.

if necessary, I could try that, but John is going to send another piggyback board.

I like eBayers that stand behind their products. After a couple of experiences I had, I almost swore off eBay for life a few years back.

An update to my S+ project that I last posted on page 95. Patience is a virtue, or so I'm told.

Much thanks to BlueridgeSlots for the sweet top glass, and iDesign and Jay for the mounting options!

I am pretty sure that's what Foster was trying to do a long while back with no success. - Something about needing a newer Base Chip????

I am running a Spectrum into my GameKing with no issues.  It works fine.  However, it slows down the response from the NetPlex Touch Screen Controller.

Argh!

So, I'm trying to program a text file to the 1x3 sign above. I've gotten it to do anything progressive I want it to, up to and including 6 progressives at the same time, but text is my Waterloo!

Does anyone have a text file and corresponding backgrnd.bat file they could share? I've given up waiting for a response to my question about the CD that was floating around with samples many months ago.

Really, all I need is a hint! I actually got it to somehow corrrupt the flash to the point where it would freeze at the "Save to =  FLASH Drive" portion of the boot sequence, but managed to recover from that. I then proceeded to back the eprom chip up, since when I finally got it to read the files on the controller, the ROM drive contents looked corrupt. Had me worried for about 15 minutes, I thought I blew it up for good!

Nope. Don't need it for a progressive, just text and maybe an animation or 2, but I'll setttle for text at this point.

Besides, I'm not ready to shell out the $$$$$ that a CON2 seeems to pull these days, heck, I'm half Scot!

You have the 1 X 3 hooked up to a Supreme?  If so, is the Supreme hooked up to anything?

Nope. Don't need it for a progressive, just text and maybe an animation or 2, but I'll setttle for text at this point.

Besides, I'm not ready to shell out the $$$$$ that a CON2 seeems to pull these days, heck, I'm half Scot!

OK, so you have it only hooked up to a Supreme.  I may be wrong but think you can't do text messages that way.  I do the text messages using the CON2.  The other way is to do text as a graphics message assuming you have enough memory in the Supreme to do it.

Hmm. I was under the impression from the Supreme manual that text was possible, and it was just my n00bish talent that was the roadblock.

It was displaying text when I got it, but I had no way of looking inside 1x2.pdf to see how it was accomplished, and didn't notice what else was there.

I think it holds its messages until it is reset.

For a price I am sure you could always ship the unit to Jeff, have him program it up with the desired graphics and text then ship it back.

Just Paypal the money to me in advance and I will be sure Jeff will get a piece of it.

I'll take another look at the manual myself but I think Jay is correct.

Just curious though about your statement about it displaying progressives.  If you don't have it hooked up to a controller, what does the progressives do?
