Mikon Con1 or Con2 link controller.
PSP software (free download) although some turkeys are selling it on ebay for 60.
Display to plug into the con1/con2.

wow, doesn't look all that difficult, a coin relay and a jackpot relay for each machine and con1 or con2 (what's the difference between the two) and 1 external 1x2 display.  Where do I get a hold of the psp software?  Where do the relays go for the coin and the jackpot hit?

I have a 10x glass with room for an internal display, can I have the internal display of that machine be the progressive for both, instead of the external?  Also where's a good place to buy this stuff at home for fun prices?

Well the first part you need is a con1 or con2 this is the heart of the progressive system.
the wiring harnes is easy to make as it is pretty straight forward "see print above"
You can link up to 32 games with 1 controller. and run up to 4 levels of progressives

JP0 TOP AWARD
JP1 ETC
JP2 ETC
JP3 ETC

The software is PSP and can be found in the download part of this site.

I have a few con1's I am willing to sell if any one wants one..

I too have several games with built-in large displays that go across the bottom of the award glass.  Is all I need is a CON 1, the software and the cable to get it going?  There is a 20 pin connector on the board and the number on the board is 321-003-90.

Joey, Correct me if I'm wrong as I have very little experience with the Mikohn progressives.

The CON1 or CON2 IS the heart of the link progressive.  Alone, it can tally the "coins in" from a number of machines (all types of manufacturers).  It then, has to talk to a display controller which is often a large overhead display.  It can also talk to display controllers located in each individual machine.

All displays, also need a display controller of some kind to interface to the displays.  So the display panels you may see pop up on Ebay are of no use without the proper controller with the correct software to run them.

Each machine that is part of a link progressive, does not need a display.  If it has a Display, it will need some kind of a controller.  Again, we are speaking Mikohn hardware here.  The only thing a standard say IGT S+ machine needs to add jackpot increment value to an overhead progressive (linked via a CON1 or CON2) is wiring.

If your machine has some kind of display in it, it will need some kind of controller to interface to the display.  From what I know, the typical machine display is called a mini-chameleon.  The chameleon displays are those tri-colored (red green orange) dot matrix LED displays which continually "paint" different colors to each jackpot digit. There are a number of types of displays and display controllers.  The early Chameleons used a CHAMI (that's CHAM one).  Part of the display drivers were on the CHAMI controller board and connected to the LED board with a ribbon cable.  Later, Mikohn went to the CHAMII (and CHAMII+) which had not only a display controller, but also a piggy back PCB which plugs on to the back of the LED dot matrix PCB via two 14 pin headers.  The CHAMII controller is then connected to the piggy back driver board with a 10 pin ribbon cable and a two pin power cable.  Later, they developed the CHAMIII (that's CHAM3) which replaced the separate controller and plugged directly on the back of the LED dot matrix display.

So games, can have a "Stand Alone" Progressive Controller indicated by the label on the Mikon CHAM board (like CH2 / STA).  Some game may have the same controller, but it is a link controller and must be interfaced with a CON1 or CON2 to get its information.  The stand alone controller is just like it states.  All by itself, it can tally coins in from the machine, and increment up to 4 Progressive jackpot levels (I think) and display them on various types of "in machine displays".  When the machine hits a progressive jackpot, it locks up and the Progressive display may change its normal display indicating the win and the value.  Just like any other machine jackpot, it is a hand pay and will be cleared by the attendant at the machine.  The progressive controller then has stored values to allow it to reset and begin counting again.  The increment values (percentages) are also stored in the stand alone controller.

In the case of a linked controller (CON1 or CON2), the CON holds the increment values, the reset and max values etc. and relays this information to the overhead displays or back to each machine's link controller to be displayed in each machine also.

The PSP software spoken of, is used to set up all these devices.  It is DOS software which via a special RS232 type cable, allows the operator to view and or change the values related to how the controller or display controllers work and what form of jackpot (coins or $$$) and the Jackpot hit messages etc..  For CON1 and CON2 communication, it requires a special RS232 cable which has pins 2, 3 and 5 connected straight through, and also has pin 1 jumpered to pin 5 at the connector which plugs into the CON controller plug.  This tells the Con there is something plugged in.  I personally have had no problem using a straight through 9 pin cable when connecting to a CHAMII+.  This is not true of any of the other older controllers (CON1/2).  Additionally, on display controller boards with LINK software installed (CHAMI, CHAMII) the RS232 port will not respond at all.

Keep in mind, IGT also made their own Progressive displays for their S+ machines which (as far as I know) are all stand alone 1 or 2 jackpot displays.  The Progressive Driver board can support up to 4 progressive levels but more commonly is seen as a 1 or 2 level progressive.  Usually it only has simple 7 segment Red LED digits which show up in place of those removable top jackpot labels.  However, on their newer equipment, they now use a system called NETPLEX which is used to talk to various devices inside each machine (displays, ticket printers etc.)  For the NETPLEX machines (S2000), they have their own stand alone dot matrix controllers which control a display which very closely resembles the Mikohn Chameleon displays.

Hope this helps you better understand what may be needed to get those progressives going!

I wish we had a better picture of the board but from the looks of it, I think it is an IGT stand alone 2 level progressive.  Most (if not all) of the S+ SP type chips send serial information for up to 4 jackpot levels to the wiring to the head.  There, another microcontroller board is used to translate this data into display information.  While on the older tiny 7 segment displays, it was nothing more than the numbers, on this dot matrix, it is still apparently just displaying dollar values.  The board and wiring look an awful lot like that standard IGT set up.

Besides paying shipping from Japan, the tuff part would be finding a game title with the proper glass to use these two large displays.  It all appears to be the entire assembly that would go into a 16 inch top box.  But one could assume the seller has that too???

Actually, the seller says all he has is a 9 inch chop top machine.  He confirmed that it's for a 16 inch machine.   He got it working but can't put it in his machine so it's up for sale.  Shipping from Japan to the US kind of makes is untouchable.   I'd like to find a CON1 or 2 here in the US to experiment with.

Well, Joey says he has some CON1's for sale.  Give him a hollar!

I guess a CON2 is worth about $1000 on the market although we did see an untested one from a non casino source go for just over $250 a while back on Ebay.  The CON2 is much more versatile and still in use by many casinos thereby keeping the surplus value high.

I guess I should have put a price for the con1 with the pics..

A shopped out working con1 is going for 350.00 PUT ON EBAY as they are getting really hard to find... "have never seen one on ebay"

and all the meaters in the world won't work if you dont have a con1 or con2..
a working con2 is going for 1000.00 but I don't have any

There is a CHAMII+ on ebay but it's missong the all important firmware for U19.  I'd like to bid on it but without this chip it's useless.  Anyone know where this chip can be acquired?

I can find it but your display is not set up for a CHAMII+  it's a led5 look at the pics on post..

Hello All. I'm on a quest for information on the Mikohn Spectrum Display. Specifically the driver board part number 341-010-30. Actually any information at this point but the general overview of the problem is this: The display is inoperative and swapping in a known good driver board makes it work again. At this stage of the game in our facility we are not doing board level repairs though I hope one day this changes. I'm after any info on fixes for this board and if they exist, schematics. Thanks to all.

a pic is worth a 1000 words.

The photo of the diagram that Joey included is kind of fuzzy but it looks like the connection from the CON1 to the LED5 is from J2, pins 3 & 4 on CON1, to J4 pins 1 & 2 on the LED5.  Can someone confirm this?

On the Con1...

Depending on the sub species of the CON1 it will have 2 or 3 banks of pins.

On both there is the words written as Display....(8 pins)  on one of my units (designed for 5 machines) this is labled J2
on the other designed for 32 machines it is J3

On the Display connector labled as J2 or J3
Pins 1,2 are get connected to the 2 pin connector on the LED5.
Pins 1,2 are parallel to 3,4  & 5,6 & 7,8 although 8 seems dead on my con1(s).

It was a lot simpler for me to run 1&2 to a screw terminal block that I then used to connect up mutiple LED5s.

Just a matter of note. Look at the circuit board. You will see which side is labled Pin 1.

OK, mine only has a J1 & J2.  I see what you mean. It's more clear when I flipped the board over to the circuit side.

I don't seem to be able to communicate with the CON1 and the LED5 using the PSP software.  I'm using a standard RS-232 cable. I don't get any communication errors when I sellect CON1, the MS-DOS screen is just blank with no messages.  Do I need a special configured cable?

The LED5 doesn't speak to the PC. The 9pin on that is dead with the LINK chip it only speaks to the CON1 though the 2 pin interface at the end of the unit.

With respect to the CON1, Pins 4&5 need to be shorted.

You will know if it is working (even without the LED5 and display) if you go into Jackpot programming.
Set the jackpot at say 12345 Press F1 for a send. You can then 0' that out and press F5 for a Read.
If it re-populates with the 12345 then its speaking ok,

The controllers I have programmed do NOT use a straight through cable. If you need the pinout email me and I will post.
