Thats a steal, I saw that same rare machine on a local craigslist for $1500. Extremely rare!

Saw another one the other day that said they sell new for 1-3 thousand but he was selling his jap crap for the low low price of $500.

are going for. He hopes to find a dummy to pay that price.

I guess its no worse than the other ad I saw on craigslist where some guy wanted $1500 for an S+ that didn't have a bill accepter. He said it was worth a lot more than he was selling it for but he'd sacrifice it for someone else to enjoy it. But I ask less than a 3rd of that for 2 S+ slant tops and get emails from people telling me they would give me $50 for the pair since that is all they are worth.

I will give you 75 for the pair but you have to deliver and setup. 

On a serious note 1500 is a bit over the top but no harm in asking.

I do however reject the notion that 50 is fair. You could part it out for a lot more.
A game kit in 1/2 decent shape might go for 65-70 then the mpu board, hopper, comparitor etc.

I have seen 50/unit prices but these are unshopped and in lots of 50-100.
You might get 60%-70%  recoverable after a lot of sweat equity.

So just throwing this out to the group what DO YOU think is a fair price for a shopped S+ ?
I know that some themes might be more deaireable and a progressive is a nice to have but in your evaluation  think middle of the road and in "stock" condition.

The ongoing joke with the Pachislos is a never-ending subject because the vendors price
these units ridiculously high on the open market.
However, the same goes for slot machines we normally see in U.S and Canadian casinos too.
I've seen people selling coin comparitor harnesses for S+'s for over $30 and denomination stickers for outrageous prices too.
I've also seen an gold-colored S+ actually sell for $2,499.00 PLUS $250.00 shipping tacked on top of the sale!!!!  
Whoever bought that thing must of thought it was made of real gold...
The saying that fits well with these pricing schemes is that "there's a sucker born everyday".... 

Regarding the quote above, I have a couple of observations I'd like to point out...as painful as they may be...
It's absolutely nothing personal at all but just something I've noticed and lesser-informed people may not see.
Any newbie popping onto this website might think "Hmm...I thought those were 'real' slot machines?"
  
As I am an homeowner of an IGT machine, I am very careful about I think about these "jap crap" machines
because many, many components of an IGT is actually made in Japan....  

Don't get me wrong because I really like IGT slot machines and totally agree with you that
the Pistachio machines are kind of "crap" too - but on the other hand, if a person looks inside an IGT machine, one will see
that most of them are built with parts ...that's right...from Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, and Mexico as well...  

Wave a patriotic flag proudly all you want but the old saying "Made In The U.S.A." is
something that is not exactly synonymously aligned with IGT.
My son who's in the Unites States Air Force was telling me how proud when he was showing me a picture
of the sticker on his new pick up truck with all the newfangled gadgets that said "Built In The U.S.A."
and it WAS built actually in Indiana somewhere but the vehicle has a 'Nissan' name tag!   Just an observation...
I told him anyways >>> "nice truck, son"... He learned NOTHING from me...

Personally,  I really do like the IGT slot machines constructed and put together up in Canada...they appear somewhat better built -
(Maybe the Canadian companies take better care of their employees? Who knows why? lol )
Even though IGT bought the parts to make their machines from elsewhere with cheap labor costs.

I have no idea where one could find  an S+ for that price...not around here anyways!

I found one for $40 that was "non working" but it was because the guy didn't know how to plug in the power cord. It's random luck of the draw to find machines at that price. I've had chances at S+ machines less than $200 on several occasions but they were either in rough shape or was non working. Me personally, I wouldn't pay $500 for a shopped out S+ just because its old technology. But thats just me and I'm cheap and wouldn't buy a shopped out machine anyways since I like to work on them.

Pachis have their place so I'm not completely hating on them. My friends come over from time to time and bring their younger kids and they all love my King Camel. It has a lot of lights and sounds and an led screen that keeps the kids entertained so they are good for some things. I just laugh every time I see them listed for $500 by someone on ebay or craigslist and they say that they're taking a loss to sell it at that price. What I don't like is when people list them as something as they are not just to try to get someone to buy them. Ive seen people list them as real slot machines from "IGT Japan" and tell everyone that they are worth thousands. I also saw someone posted one as an antique Aristocrat slot and wanted $2000+ for it. You know some new person to the hobby is going to see them and some of them might believe that the people are being truthful in their descriptions.

Because these jap craps have LCDs and lights and stuff is why there's a decent market for them.
The more bells and whistles - the more attractive they are...
Do I sound contradictory to my earlier statements on these things?...somewhat...but there's pros and cons to all kinds of slots IMHO.

I completely agree. I still wish I spoke Japanese, I think this rat looking thing that comes on the screen is laughing at me when he shows up. Its a fun little game but after a while you get tired of winning 

But like I said the kids love it and its really loud and colorful while being played so it looks good in the basement. It was $50 at a yard sale so I can't complain about it... its not like I paid $1000 for a rare one

This has sort of come up before and I think it really has a lot to do with where you live. Slots are legal for home use here in Texas, but they are not that easy to find (i.e. no slot machine stores on every corner). And the few places that have had them sell them for $700-$1000 and they are not 'minty'.

Now given that I would have to pay for shipping from anywhere else, if I were looking for a shopped S+, I would pay up to $600 local. I would and have paid $250 for an 'as is' (parts complete) S+ to acquire some spare parts I wanted. But as already mentioned, it's not too hard to recoup a lot of that by parting out what you don't need.

Here is an example of what you find on CL here. Most are pachislo being sold as 'casino slots' And certainly no $50 machines.
