another thought is your version chip is for multi-denom but your ss chip is single denom only.  i don't know if it makes any difference but if you have a version VS011GX0 you could give that a try.  i'm sure some of the others can verify if the GX1 works with the old ss programs installed.

swapped out the coin mech and harness still errors
i could try another mpu but i dont see how it would work in one and give a error in another but i will try any thing at this point

if you try another mpu and it works i would put the "coin in jam" mpu into another machine and try to get it to work.  you wrote earlier that the "coin in jam" board boots up in another machine but did you get it fully ready for play?  did you play a few games/drop a few coins in with that mpu in another cabinet?  run some I/O tests and see what happens.

I'm not sure if you have to do a clear, but for sure you have to put a key chip in it and reset the type machine.( maybe all the settings )  It's really no big deal after what you have gone through.

nope...also from the SG598 PSR:

The key chip is required to change some game options, such as the denomination. The key chip is labeled with the key chip number KEY00045 (or its replacement).

good to see you can still lol about it.  way to stick through it keith, you'll be an S2000 pro soon if you keep this kind of troubleshooting up!!  i am glad your game is functional, a bit pricey for my taste but to each their own!  Crazy +1 (Karma, or whatever) for having a good outlook on it; many would have thrown the screwdriver through the reel glass by now!

You can use key 31 with 598.
I and Buzz both use Key 31.

Did I miss something ??  I think we forgot the golden rule.  To change the denom you must first use a clear chip. (097)

Foster is correct I do use a Key 31 for most SG chips. I use this rule of thumb, first no matter what  SG chips that are installed I try a Key 31 and if it fails I start looking at a PAR sheet to see what I should have used. Now let me be very clear, I've never had to look at a PAR because a Key 31 has never failed to key a machine. I could give a S*** less what IGT tells me I should use, all I care about is a Key 31 gets the machine up and working !!!

Keith   If I were you I would try clearing the machine and try the 17 you have.  Forget that for now, give me time to burn a set of 598 and a key 17 and I will clear a machine and see if they will work.

you only require clear to change accounting denomination. key chip will change coin\credit denomination

If his accounting denomination is set to 5k it'll have to be cleared.

Lets go back to the drawing board. In reply #27 Keith said he has a Machine Type Mismatch I'm going to assume a key 17 fixed that. That being said A Key 17 will key his machine. If that's true as knagl pointed out his Accounting Denom. must be set at 5K and a clear needs to be done.

I tried my little experiment with a set of SG000598 and  key's 17, 05, 22, and a 31    The key 31 is the only one that worked. Truth of the matter is I think the 2 different files I have for a Key 17 are no good, so wasn't much of a experiment was it.

A clear is needed since your Accounting Denom is 5K.

Keith  Before you do a clear, did the Key 17 work with the Game chips you are using ?? ( SG000598 ) I think it did because you got rid of the " Machine Type Mismatch " error. If it did I would say go ahead and do a clear. If it didn't and you want to play the game with the 5K wait until you get your hands on another Key chip.

I can tell you for a fact, today I cleared and keyed a Wild Cherry 3 reel SB100095 and SG000598 using a clear 97 and a Key 31.

i never did a clear i dont have the 97 chip or the 31 key. but when i used the 17 key it took the mismatch error away. then if i use the 17 i can get in to the settings but it wont let me change the accounting or demo.
