i shut door and reset pushed button twice there were 0s across the board then turned jackpot key until 9 showed up now blinking 9 in winners paid ? is that right

No. Try it again (close door again and start over). Press the self test button until you have the 5_x in the winner paid (it may be more than 2 presses). Then turn the jackpot key.

Ok, that means it is enabled in the software.

So next, with power off, remove the one screw in the front center of the BV head. Lift up the head and you will see two banks of DIP switches on the bottom. They should all be off. If they are that way, flip #10 on, and put it back together and see what happens. If they are any other way, put them all off.

To clarify, we want to try it 2 ways. All switches off, and all off except #10. The machine has to be powered down between changing these. If neither works, put it back to all off.

Just change #10. If that does not work, put them back to all off. Note where # 10 is located.

Ok, put them all back to off and we can try one more thing.

Close the door and wait for it to reset. Open the door and press the self test button until there is a 7 in the coins played. Make a note of the number displayed in the winner paid. Press the button one more time. There should still be a 7 in the coins played. Make a note of the number displayed. The second one (second time it's on 7) is the credit limit that dissables the BV. We want to make sure it is not set to 0.

Ok, that is fine.

I'm pretty much out of ideas for tonight. Make sure that all of the cables going to the BV are seated good. There are some more tests we can do, but it will have to wait until tomorrow unless one of the night owls chimes in. Time for some  zzzzzzz

One more thing. Not sure if this will cause the BV not to enable or cause a different error, but your cash can door may have a switch or may have the wires tied together like this. Make sure they are not hanging loose and that the switch is closed if you have one. Also pull the cash can out and slam it back in to make sure it's seated.

Ok,  one more thing to try. With no credits on the machine, close the door and let the machine reset. Open the door and press the self test button until you have a 6 in the coins played window. What is displayed? It should be 25. This is the denomination. If it is 0, the BV will be dissabled. This is an older SP chip and you may be able to set the denomination it in self test (vice needing a set chip). If it says 25, then just stop, as that is not the problem. if it is 0, try pressing the spin button and see if you can change it to 25. If that works, press the self test button one more time and then close the door and see what happens.

just some information about your machine and  your Sp chip.  you have a user friendly  SP chip (meaning you can navigate through the menus and within the menus using the buttons on the machine, no need to use the keyswitch  bet one will go forward to the next test, bet max will reverse, once your at a certain menu use the change button to advance.(all with the door open)
does your 25 cent denom. lamp come on?  if so , test the bulbs in the bill acceptor bezel to see if they are good! you could go to input test (#1 in the coins played window) should see a 10_1, use the change button and advance that number to #27, this will test your enable signal, the bulbs, you can even insert a bill into the acceptor, it should take it in, hold it for a few seconds and then return it.

using these tests you could test every feature on your machine.

Jim,

The reason I suggested using the key is to keep consistant with later SP chips. I remember when I first started with these and I was getting all confused between using the buttons and the key when I was trying different SP chips.  arrow  So now I just use the key no matter what is in there.

I think things are mostly good as it's taking coins now.

I was not sure about the output tests (BV bezel) because the PSR does not list them.

Press the spin button. The bezel should light up and you should be able to insert a bill that will get rejected.

Don't forget to check the denomination.

Are they green?  If so, tie them together and put tape on them so they don't short on the frame. But I'm not sure that is the problem. I just tried mine with the cash door open and it won't even take coins.

Don't worry about those for now. They may be already jumpered somewhere else since it takes coins. Check the denomination and check the ouput test that Jim mentioned. What do you get?

Ok, forget about the spin button. I just looked up the tests. When you have 27_0, try to insert a bill. It should take it and change to 27_1 and then spit it out.

There is a seperate test for the bezel.

Volume dial on upper left side of MPU.
