Does anyone know if a Bally 5500 can be converted into a 6000 - Aside from the physical differences can the MPU be changed or does it require much more like motherboard and wiring??

Munch, I know it's been a year, but as long as I'm here, the short answer to your question is that the MPU board is the same for both slots. It's the back plane board and all of the harnesses that are different. The 5500 also has a reel deck, where the 6000 just has a bar in front and in back and the reels hang over an empty hole. The dbv is mounted in a different location as well and the bezel is in the door, not next to the reels.

Wayne, thanks for the heads-up.

I believe that the SMI chips are the same for both.  However the base chips are different sizes.
