The idea of the reel optic test is for you to enter the test and then spin each reel the number should cycle between 0 and 1 as the reel spins
Also depending on where the reel is supposed to stop the test result could be 0 or 1

There is no need to move the RAM chips either., The only chips that should be moved are SB, SG (if different) and VS chips. Base, Game, and Version
The RAM Chips will be reloaded with data from the data EEPROM when you use the Jackpot reset to cycle through the errors.

Quick update....

I installed the new board....it would not clear all the way....I then removed the old green battery.....I had limited configuration options...it let me play one game.....no reel 2 tilt error message...I have RAM cleared the machine 2 more times...it will now allow me into the key Configuration menu.....the error messages are gone...I am re-setting the game...the lower part of the candle light keeps blinking...I will keep you informed....

"No reel 2 tilt error messages" means that your 1st MPU is kaput.
Stay with the newer MPU and learn how to do all the configuration settings in the Menus.
Thanks to Buzz pointing out the printer settings that need to be done as well.

I'm assuming your topbox game is now showing on the LCD screen?

The reason I asked you to change the RAM chips is that sometimes a bad ram chip will cause problems as well.
I just wanted you to change them to take it out of the troubleshooting process.
You may swap the Ram chips back if you prefer but they should be the same.
However, if you swap the old ones to the new MPU and you suddenly get errors you can't get rid of -
then we know it's bad Ram chips rather than the MPU board.

My process of pinpointing faults requires swapping all sorts of easily removable components to single out the problem.
At least for now, we've been able to get rid of the 2nd reel error
that was a persistent problem with the 1st MPU board!  yes applause

More wisdom is needed.....

I turned the machine off for 3 hours...went to turn it on and the Call Attendant error came up...then 7-segment display mismatch...tried to clear machine.....LCD then showed a photo with Com Link error...restarted machine....eeprom error appeared..turned key.......some critical data will be lost...turned key....removed board....insert key chip 17 ..reinstalled,,, one light lite....replaced stepper base chip in u21...restarted machine...game started correctly.....but the bottom of the candle is still blinking...

Doe anyone know what is going on here....????

I will retry machine in morning.....any guidance is appreciated

The earlier messages were because you didn't have an eprom correctly seated in the socket.
That's why you got the "7-segment display mismatch" and "Com Link error" messages.
A Com link error message usually is the result of no communication between the to[[ox flash card
and the SB chip you removed.
They went away after restarting the machine and should have came back after awhile.
When you cleared the ram again...those messages went away.

The 1st time the message with "some critical data will be lost" and you turned the reset key -
you needed to wait about 90 more seconds for the topbox LCD display to come on.
Instead, you removed the MPU and the machine didn't have a chance to initialize.
At that point, your machine is ready to accept a coin for play.

..."bottom candle still blinking"... = machine is ready to accept a coin.
Blinking light only means that the door was recently opened.

Try playing one complete game to get rid of blinking light if there are no errors on the blue VFD screen display
and the topbox LCD game is on.

You're doing too many steps at a time for us to respond.
Take a look at some of my "Boot Up" video clips on youtube when I got a Munsters game going.
I think my youtube account is "Stayouttadabunker3".
They will give you an excellent idea of what you should expect to see on the LCD display as the game is booting up.

To get the same boot up sequences to display on your LCD screen instead of a mostly black screen, you need to install a jumper on the topbox computer board.
It will be the jumper on the left hand side of the memory card.
They usually have one there but it's only on one pin - you'd need to jump BOTH pins.

The cover of the LCD computer comes off with the removal of a few screws
on the back of the topbox display unit.
You'd need to temporarily remove the screws and set them aside to get at
the back of the LCD computer board to get at the Boot Up jumper.

I'm not saying that you're going too fast...I' meant to say that you're jumping too many steps at a time
and we cannot respond to step you through it.

By the time you come back on and give us a report - you've pulled out the MPU board! bawling

Stop ram clearing... no it's not doing anything anymore.
You've already cleared the memory from the RAM chip -
there's nothing in there anymore.
It's as empty as the R273's mannequin in his basement!  arrow

Stick in the SB chip in the socket in the right direction and start over.
When you get to the part where the blue VFD display says: "some critical data will be lost"
and you turn the Jackpot key once, leave the door ajar and watch the display and the LCD.
It should take no more than 90 seconds for the LCD to come back on.
It may display a blue screen with the message, "door open".
That's when you close the door and try dropping in a coin to play ONE COMPLETE GAME.

Playing a game will get rid of the blinking lower candle and you ought to be back in business!

If anything else pops up. Stop and report but don't go any further until you post
what is going on and you get some help from the forum.

You might need to get on the phone with someone to help walk you through the start up procedure
because you may be doing the wrong steps to get your machine back on correctly.

I put the plastic computer 2-pin jumper in my Topbox LCD computer so I could see the Boot Up sequences.
It's a LOT better than looking at a black screen when powering up!
They're just like older desktop computers we used to play with 10 yrs ago.  yes

I turned the machine on today....it went throught the normal start up process...the LCD stated: Initializing, please wait....then the machine 's 5 reel spun...and the VFD screen reads: Call Attendant ...Machine Type Mismatch....Closure M ...There are 0 credits in the machine...Cash..0.0....and the Credit line shows ----- no value for a credit. This is with the door open or closed.

What should I do next...

Your machine has been completely Cleared.
It now doesn't know if it's a "Slant" or an "Upright" machine.
It also doesn't know what coins you're using
or what the denomination of the machine it should be.

Now, it's time to put in a Keychip
and set up your machine.

Power down, remove MPU and SB chip.
Install a Keychip in the SB socket position and re-install MPU.
Power up the machine
and go from step #8 in the instructions below...>>>

The top 2 amber LED lights are lite....no messages on either screens...the "Select Credit Value" botton light is on...

What should I do next...your text starts with the Clear chip again...

I have followed your instructions and the machine is working properly...the candle has stopped blinking...the printer works, and it accepts bills.....

Help.....

Turned the machine on this morning....both lights in the candle are blinking....the VFD states...Call Attendant...when I open the door is states EEPROM ERROR....the LCD Screen reads..... Initializing, please wait.....the machine has been on for over 30 minutes.....What do you recommend I do now......??????

My previous posts show that all steps were followed...I played games yesterday after the machine was cleared and re-set.everything worked correctly.....now this???

Any help is greatly appreciated....

If the machine is loosing settings memory when turned off, as long as the cmos battery checks good, at this point I would have to suspect a bad motherboard as you've already swapped the MPU's. Machine setups, such as game type and denom stuff are storex on the motherboard. MPU stores statistical data and it's u.likely you got two bad MPU boards in a rpw

The nice thing is that the 2nd reel tilt errors have never come back.  applause

There isn't any tests for the motherboard that I can recall.
As far as I know, there are 6 input, 10 output (I/O), and 4 game tests.

Like cowboy stated, the [7.1.6] Machine Type (Upright or Slant)
and Denominination values are stored on the eeprom chip on the motherboard.

You can Keychip the machine to go into the Set Up menus to see if those settings you're configured yesterday are still intact.
If so, then the problem may very well be something else.

No matter what though, I'd drop in the keychip then put the SB chip back in
and go check my settings from yesterday to make sure they are all still in there as configured.
I'd also pick up a cheap, spare motherboard as well.

This morning I followed your instructions....I used the key chip/reinstalled the SB Chip....I found all of my configuration settings were the same....the machine let me play a few games....I zeroed out the credits.....I waited about 45 minutes.....turned the machine on again...and the Call Attendant...EEPROM Error messages ..reappeared.


What are your thoughts and next steps......???

What's the voltage on your cmps battery on that board? Also, I would give all the eproms on the MPU an extra push to make sure they are fully seated. My first S2000 game had that problem and it ended up being a bot of oxidation on one of the ram eprpms. That extra seating pish fixed it

I have pulled and pushed the chips...Over the past week, I have set the settings several times......the machine lets me play a game or two perfectly.....then I turned it off for about an hour and upon start-up... the error messages reappear....

2.78 isn't critically low for a cmos battery, but it's getting to the point wherd it could be trouble. When I had that problem it was pretty sporadic as far as when it would show up, but it was the same error. Are there any signs of oxidation or rust on the board anywhere. Quite a few machines come from coastal areas or cruise ships and high humitity over time can raise all kinds of issues
