In general what does a bill validator comm failure mean?
This on a S2000 machine.

For a JCM BV it means the game has lost communication with the validator. This can be a harness, bad program in the BV (or wrong software) or an error in the BV that prevents it from completing its self test.

Thanks for repling . I had a Mars BV in the machine it did not work either, but it did do the self test . This will not do that. I think this one is a WBA -13.

Well I put the Mars BV back in and the error went away. Telling me that the new BV that I  bought is bad.

What BV did you buy for your S2000?
I hope it was either a WBA-12/13 or UBA-10 because a DBV-xxx will not work in the S2000
I think DBV series of Bill Validators reached end of life (discontinued) in the late 1990's or very early 2000's
Also did you make sure you ordered one with ID024 software?

It's on the bottom side of the transport.  If you remove it from the machine and flip it upside down you'll see it there.  ID003 is for Bally machines,  you need ID024 for a S2000.

This transport seems to be all one piece . The cash box fits on it. I can see the chip through a hole on the side . Don't  know how to take the transport off.

The transport has a small handle on the front of it, right under the plastic "duckbill" mounted on the front that you insert the bill into.   If you pull on it you'll feel it move down a little bit, and then pull it straight out (with the power off).  The EPROM chip will be on the bottom of it.

Just below the bill entry is metal rod or bar you push down on it (which only releases the BV head) now just below it is the release for the whole transport.
Let me find a picture and see if I can mark them for you

That would be why it is not working in your S2000
You have 2 options:
See if you get the vendor you got it from to exchange it for one the latest ID024 software on it. you will want to exchange both the head and transport, because every time the software is updated it is best to have the head/transport calibrated as a pair
- OR -
Buy the ID024 EPROM from some one and see if you can borrow the calibration sheet and download the WBA manual from JCM link on main page of NLG
The manual details how to do the calibration.  I do not think it will force you to do calibration with the new firmware but calibrating it, adjusts the LEDs and optics for optimum performance which helps reduce bill and ticket rejection.

Did you ask or specify which ID# you were buying? Or indicate what type of machine it was for? Just curious, as I always try and be sure to include the ID# info in my listing to avoid this exact situation. If I don't know if it will work in your machine, I'll find out, or if not, I'll tel you I don't know.
