Just got an IGT Fortune I J's or Better poker machine. The monitor sometimes shows one card when it is powered up. Looking at the board I believe that there might be some chips missing. Can anyone verify this? See pictures below. Also, another question....What voltage are the CGO-B, CGO-A, CG1-B, CG1-A chips run at?
Thanks for any info.
Jerry

Those are the same chips I have on my board although I haven't got it working yet.  See if you can look under the label to see what chips you have.  Most likely it's the TMS2716 unless it's been modified.  Here is a link to the datasheet http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/125762/TI/TMS2716.html  There are 3 voltages (Pin24 Vcc = 5V, Pin21 Vbb = -5V, Pin19 Vdd = 12V).  If it's not a TMS then google the datasheet on what the part number is.

The chips are TMS2716JL. Do you only have the CGI-A Character -073 and and the CGO-A Poker 073 as I do? There is nothing in CGI-B or CGO-B on my machine. All I have are the fluorescent lights lit, the fan runs and if I flip the switch on the monitor, I get a horizontal line in the center of the screen. other than that, It's deader than a door nail, whatever that is , ha! It looks like it will cost more to get it running than it's worth.

Yes, I only have chips in the A sockets.  There are no labels on them and the labels on the program chips are barely readable.

If you're talking about the switch just above the monitor next to the pots then that is the test mode switch so you can calibrate the colors.

There is not a lot of information out there and it sounds like the few people on the site that knew anything about them haven't worked on them in years and don't remember too much about them.  Have you looked through the Fortune I section?  This thread http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=255.0 has a list of problems and fixes taken from technician repair tickets.  There is some information that might get you going in the right direction.  I know it's going to be a challenge but I'm determined to get mine up and running.

Good Luck!

If I come up with any information, will let you know.

Thanks for the repair tips and the manuals, guys. I have to calibrate the monitor and check the power supply for starters, I guess.
Also have to get an external power supply for my chip burner so I can read the checksum on my chips. I am not able to read them without it.

I used an old computer power supply.  I don't think the newer supplies have the -5V.  If you have an old power supply with the 20 pin connector, the white wire is -5V.  Let me know if you get them read.  I would like to compare the check sums.

I'm still hunting for a power supply for my programmer. It requires a 9V DC 200ma charger. I found the perfect one from an old phone but the connector was the wrong size. As soon as I come up with something, I'll let you know what the checksums are on my chips.

New problem trying to read my chip checksums. I finally found an external power supply for my programmer as I was getting a message saying that I needed an external 9VDC 200mA supply, or greater, to work with the 2716 chips. Well, I found a 9VDC 500mA supply and thought that would solve my problem in trying to read the checksum on my chips.  .......WRONG! I am still not getting a checksum on the read. It appears that the chips are blank, yet they had old tags on them. If I check to see if they are blank, it comes up with...
Device blank check failed at address 0X 000000, Read 0x00 blank check failed. Anybody have a clue as to what i am doing wrong?

Which reader are you using?  I was getting the same thing when I first tried.  You have to provide 2 other voltages for those chips from an external source.  The easiest way to do it is an old pc power supply that has -5V and a breadboard.  The old ones with the 20 pin connector have a white wire 3rd from one end that is -5V.   Here is a link to a universal adapter so you can get an idea how to set it up http://home.comcast.net/~medasaro/6540rom.com/universal.html. I used a breadboard and jumper wires since I didn't think I would be using much.  Will probably make an adapter when I get time.   I'll try and take a picture of how I set it up tonight and post.

Sorry, but I am no electronic wizard like you guys. If I can't put a chip in my programmer and read it, it's way over my head to mess with boards, adapters, etc. I don't have a clue. If it makes any difference.... I have a GQ-4X True USB Universal Programmer.

I haven't seen a programmer yet that will read those chips without an adapter.  That chip requires -5v on the Vbb pin and +12V on the Vdd pin in order for it to read so the only way to accomplish that would be with an adapter.  Since you have some graphics on the screen it would indicate the monitor is working.  Have you checked to make sure all the cables are tight in the sockets and no bent pins?

Had minimal graphics on screen at the time that I bought it. since I have it here, there is nothing on the screen. I have pulled all connectors, sprayed with contact cleaner and have nothing on the screen. A friend, that is a whole lot more electronics savvy and has the same programmer that I have is trying to get a checksum on a chip that he has. He hasn't gotten back to me yet.

There is probably nothing wrong with your EPROMS. It is usually a bad socket or a related chip that talks to the EPROM's, or a missing voltage.
I fix these boards quite a bit and troubleshooting via internet is almost impossible.

We have a tester in the shop to test the board on and allow me to scope the board to find the problem(s).

Call Larry at 702-363-9998 if you want to send it in for repair.

Hi Larry,
Thanks for your input. At the moment, I have sent all of the chips to someone that also has this machine, and he is attempting to compare the chips to his, since I am not able to read them with my programmer. Since I sent the chips out, I have become aware that the sound board, speaker and cable are all missing from my machine. So, given that, and considering what the machine is worth in working condition, I am about to give up on it. It will cost more to fix than what it is worth.
Regards,
Jerry

That whole sound setup was an after thought and most casinos didn't want them.

The sounds were very basic and most casinos turned the volume down because they were annoying.

If your machine does not have "grill" holes where a speaker would mount behind the top door lamp then it was never wired for sound.

The machines sell for about $500 to $750 in working order.

Those prices might be wherever you are, but here you can't get $325. Here's an example of a Fortune 1 blackjack that has been on craigslist here for a while now, and there is no interest in it.
Here's the write up on it......

mz3jv-3781161593@sale.craigslist.org

IGT Fortune 1 ' Blackjack / 21 / Let it ride' video slot machine from Vegas.

Fully functional, parts complete video slot from the 80's. Hard to find.

$325 OBO

Will respond if phone number is left.

Thanks

HAHAHA!! Jerry, I actually have to bring this to Chicago tomorrow. I have been trying to get back what I put in it. I paid $200, then replaced all the bulbs/starters etc. Plus, as you know, I tinkered with all the wiring and spent hrs trying to get the sound to work.

I ended up accepting a $175 offer for that, plus $60 to deliver. I also sold the Bally along with it for a grand total of $480 with delivery.

Better then using it for target practice or as a boat anchor I guess.... Plus I have been in need of some deep dish pizza so the 50min trip is fine with me.

Harvey
