Williams Top Cat slot machine

Grandkids screwed up my Top Cat Slot Machine. Went to play, handle locked, coins just go thru slot. any ideas? tnaks

Any error code on the display?
Open the CPU cage and see if any of the fail led are illuminated

sorry, but i dont know what a CPU cage is.....all lights seem to be working....no error code shown. thx

Sorry but you will need to give they experts on here a bit more information.

They are good, but not that good.

Open the main door and you will find the CPU cage door in the center of the machine. It has a red button on the front.
Now with the power on, look at the led lights on the front edge of the I/O card.
Tell us what if any of those are illuminated.
Pictures also helps so we can guide you along.

ok, there is 1 lite on the left, and 5 (next to each other) on the right. Of those six, the only ones that are lit are both outer ones in the 5-group...(counting from the left, they would be #2 and #6.
No error code is illuminated anywhere on the machine.

Sounds like the lower power supply is missing some of the voltages it puts out.
You will need to replace that power supply or have your rebuilt.

OK, thx Neon. Any idea who/where i can buy one at? And more important, where is it? Is it one of those boards? Starting to sound like i need someone to stop by to fix. I live in a small town, so this might take some doing to get someone out here.....Maybe just junk it out?

No, absolutely not.  The power supplies for these games are notorious for going bad.  You can either buy a replacement (try posting a "Want To Buy" ad in the classifieds section, state that you're looking for a replacement lower power supply for a non-Dotmation WMS Top Cat slot machine), or you can fix it yourself using the directions posted here.


The boards and glass kit and reel strips and whatnot are all good, so if for some reason you do decide not to fix it, it would be nice if you offered up the parts and glass for sale.  However, there's really no need to do that -- replace the power supply and you'll be back in business.

Maybe this can help.
Here is a picture showing where the lower power supply is located. It is a fairly large gray metal box in the lower part of the slot machine, mounted on the left wall, has several connectors on the side. At the back lower corner of this lower power supply you will find your 115vac power cord attached, this is the power cord that runs to your elec outlet you plug the machine into. You should be able to click on the photo below to make it larger. I think there are some NLG folks in Chicago and the Illinois area, perhaps one of them can help if you can't replace the lower supply yourself.

A popular mod/repair is to add an ordinary desktop computer power supply to the lower part of the machine and connect it to the various cables formerly connected to the old lower power supply. Those instructions are posted here on NLG (look at previous message above where knagl mentioned it). Some people do replace this lower power supply with another identical one since it is easier to do but many feel it isn't the best way to go since it will likely fail again later (marginal design). If your machine is otherwise in good working condition it is worth fixing this problem, whichever method you choose.

to post a picture, click on "reply" to create another message and when the new message box appears look toward the bottom for the place where it says "Attach". Over to the right of this you click on "Browse" and it will let you search on your computer for the photo you want to put into the message. The photo has to already have been downloaded from your camera to your computer before doing this. Once you have the photo selected and attached just click on "post" at the bottom of the message window and it should be done. Being 70 isn't a problem, we've got older ladies & gents than that on here, right Buzz??

If you are interested I can sell you the power supply. It goes inside the metal box. All you need to do is remove the harness's to the metal box, two nuts in front to take the box off the wall, two screws to open the box then 4 screws and two harness's to remove the old power supply. Just reverse the order. Believe me, very simple, if I can do it anybody can. PM me if interested.

Another option is to remove your power supply and send it out for repair.
