I have a Bally s5500 machine which has a peculiar problem--every once in a while the DBV200 just stops working (no light-won't take any bills)--If I do a reset it sometimes will come back up and work just fine. However the reset does not always solve the issue--sometimes I have to do a complete safe ram clear--and then it will work (will work fine for a few weeks then it will shut down) new. Everything seems to be fine--the DBV has the new chip for the Bally--all wiring looks OK. It almost sounds like there may be a memory issue that stops the DBV from working--anyway if anyone has a clue as to why this occurs--I would greatly appreciate it--Thanks: John

Back when I worked at the Fiesta in North Las Vegas, we had this issue. Turned out to be the DUART chip on the mother board. Seems it doesn't like hot swapping components. Causes voltage spikes that do internal damage. This causes intermittent signal loss. What happens is the vend valid signal to the host or the ACK reply to the validator gets missed. If the host doesn't see the vend valid, you get no credits. If the validator doesn't get the ACK it doesn't reset for the next bill.
When it goes "To sleep" try opening and closing the door. This will force a reset on the validator and if it comes up, the DUART is the culprit. Can't remember which socket it is, but it's on the right hand rear of the MB
