With the 055 I could lock a chip in and lift it out quite easily. With the 054, I tried to pull it out but didn't want to bend the legs. It is MUCH tighter in the 054!
Has to be a quality issue!

I'm not a DOS person. I'm going to use Coors way.
Ford

You don't need to be. The HxD method I suggested is done in Windows in that program. Using keyboard commands isn't necessary but is much faster than using the mouse. The keyboard commands don't work as they should in the GQ-4X software (I tried it) which is why I use HxD. HxD is just easier because the program was designed to edit and manipulate binary files while the burner's software was primarily designed to load and write, or read and save files. Editing is not its strong suit.

As for Poppo's suggestion, you won't be using any DOS there either. He's already given you the "DOS" code. All you have to do is paste in into a new textfile and save it as we explained. From that point on, you will just be using Windows to copy files into your work folder and then double clicking on the batch file program icon to run it. If I had video capability I'd make a video showing you how easy it would be to use. If you tried it once you'd never use the GQ-4X program to create paged files again.

I got my burner and UV eraser about a month or so ago. Is M27C4002-10F a good SB chip?
I paid less than $2.50 a piece for them.

-10 is a 100ns chip and should be fast enough for your slot applications. $2.50 is a good price for 4mb chips.

FORDSBS and Uniman (and anyone else who's interested),

Here is a zip file with directory and a set of 2x, 4x, and 8x batch files all ready to go. Just save it where you'd like to have your working directory and then select "Extract to here." It will create a work folder which will already contain the three batch files and a sample 1.bin file.

The sample bin file is 8k (for a 64k chip) and just has the text "start of file" on the first two lines and "End of File" on the last two lines. The rest if blank (FF).

All you have to do is double click on any of the batch files to make an expanded (paged) version of the 1.bin file. Click on all three and see how fast and easy it is to make three new files! propeller

To put it into actual use, copy a file you want to expand from another folder into this one. Delete my sample 1.bin and rename your copied file 1.bin. Then double click on any of the batch icons to make you new file(s). Take your new file (8.bin for example) and rename it something that makes sense to you, then copy it back to your original folder. That's it.

Enjoy,

Stat garfield

They are good but I use this guy:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-ST-27C4002-UV-EPROM-M27C4002-4M-DIP40-/280712780489?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item415bc91ac9
I have them in 2 days , not 2 weeks. But if you are not in a hurry yours is a good deal. My guy will deal off e-bay for a few dollars cheaper. he is in California and carries all size chips you need. He will combine shipping and discount multiple pruchases of mixed chips. been dealing with him for at least 2 years with out any issue. Gladly replaces any chip with an issue (only had 2 bad ones in a few hundred) never bent pins and clean erased chips. great communication.

http://www.buyicnow.com/fincat.php?cat=79      Out of 5 or 6 hundred never got a chip that wasn't erased, never a trace of a label or a bent leg. If your in a hurry at check out you can chose DHL and it cost about 20 bucks more, but you will get them in 3 days.  Check out the discount.

I second this guy. Buzz turned me on to him and I've been very happy with my two large orders. The chips were in great shape and inserted into anti-static foam, not stacked like auditorium chairs after a party.

The speed. Tyically -10 =100ns   -12 = 129ns etc. The letters are package type, temperature rating, other features.

Faster is usually better. But no need to pay a preimum for super fast chips if the system will never make use of it. For example a 16mhz S+ needs 120ns or better. I would not pay much extra for 90ns if I can get 120ns for less.

another one says

MYS 8B 432

another the third one says

So it's ok then, for say, my personality chips to use one of each? They don't both have to be exactly the same. And does that apply for the mains also?

I got a chance to try out my burner tonight.  No chips to write but I was able to back up some of my universal with no problem.  Most importantly I backed up my CEIs which I could probably never replace.  I did encounter a strange thing with the CEI one chip it told me that it could not id the chip but it read it fine.  Is that an issue? When My chips show up I want to try that one on a fresh chip and make sure all is well with the backed up file.

Some older chips do not have the capability of being ID'd. As long as it doesn't say it's damaged should be ok. Read it a few times and look at the checksum to make sure it matches each time.

Another chip question.
For a Bally 6000 U28 & u43 chips that are in are on m27c2001. The 2003's I have are on 4001.
Can I burn from a 4001 to a 2001.

My burner should have been here today & did not come.

my chips showed up to and I was able to burn one and test it.  At first I had trouble it went through the write process but remained blank.  I unplugged the burner from the usb hub and plug it directly into the back of the PC and it worked.  It must not have had enough power.

M27c2001 is a 2meg chip and the 4001 is a 4 meg chip. So a 4001 will not fit on a 2001. But someone may have copied a 2001 file to a 4001 chip using the copy and paste 2 times.
