I recommend that people using the GQ-4X:
1 Do connect it to a USB hub unless powered
2 Get a power supply for it. If it is like the GQ-2X I had it is a 12V 1A supply.
my GQ-2X quit reading and burning chips until it is powered by a separate Power Supply.

Ford  I'm going to word this like you are a two year old. please don't take offence.

You have a 4 gallon bucket and you need to fill it with using a 2 gallon bucket.  You must fill the 2 gallon bucket twice to completely fill the 4 gallon bucket. This is how 2 and 4 meg chips work.  You must fill a 4 meg twice with  files from a 2 meg chip.  You can not fill a 2 gallon bucket with a full 4 gallon bucket and not have something left over. ( This didn't come out the same way I'm thinking, but I think the idea is there. )  Someone  Help me.

Not trying to confuse you but as a example, if you had a blank 27C801 ( 8 meg) you could copy your 27C4001 files into in by doing a offset twice. ( 4 meg chip cost about 2 bucks, 8 meg about 6 bucks )

The only reason a chip is ever programmed with a offset is because the programmer (human ) didn't have the correct chip in the first place. ( Boy I can hardly wait for the responce to that statement )

Ford In a PM I made you a offer and I will make you, or anyone else the same offer in the open forum. If you ever have a need for a offset and are not sure how to do one, send me the chip and I will do the offset for you and send it back.  I'm quite sure a few other members will make the same offer. David says it takes him 15 seconds, I'm old and it took me 25 seconds.

Well, you asked for it.  Tongue Out

The statement is true, but it may be by choice. I personally see no reason to 'stock' two different types of chip when one will do.

They will work

A 27c2001 and a 27c020 are pretty much the same and will work in place of each other

Same goes for:

27c4001 and 27c040

27c1001 and 27c010

27c080 and 27c801

27c4002 and 27c4096

I'm getting pissed. My burner was shipped on 11/8/11 from Washington, PRIORITY MAIL.
I ordered from MCUmall Electronics Inc.
I checked tracking & it shows it went from Washington 0n 11/9/11. Tracking said it should be
delivered on 11/12/11. Nothing fast about USPS priority.
Hope it makes it on 11/15/11.

That's the problem with priority mail. It's not guaranteed. I had a package take 2 weeks to go 500 miles.  no

Depends on what you are mailing. You can fit an awful lot into a flat rate box.  yes

Ah, now there's your mistake Poppo! It wasn't their speed that was the problem, it was their sense of direction. Weird Eyes  It actually left the post office via the back door, traveled 24,400 miles (give or take a few hundred) and had a grand tour of the world before dropping dead on your doorstep. Tongue Out  Duh! frying pan  Cry Laughing Cry Laughing Cry Laughing

Sort of like UPS. A package that comes to me first goes to San Antonio (30 miles East), then goes to Uvalde, (50 miles West and they practically drive by my house on the way), and then it has to go out for delivery and come the 50 miles back to me.  Duh!

Given his current stock (looking at available speeds and prices), instead of buying the TI TMS27C020-12JL for $1.50/ea base price,
why not buy these instead:
http://www.buyicnow.com/fincat.php?cat=504   SST SST27SF020-70-3C-PH  for $1.45/ea base price?

Not only are they a heck of a lot faster and less expensive, they're flash chips (EEPROMs), so you won't be sitting around waiting for them to be erased.

....so you won't be sitting around waiting for them to be erased.

Which brings up a good point. We have all been talking about burners, but nobody has mentioned the likely need for an eraser (for UV eproms).

Also keep in mind if you buy used chips you may/will need a UV eraser.

Even if you buy new ones you may need/want to erase them at some point.

Do you have a set of regular clear chips to try?
