ok seem to get power now to the bottm power supply now using pc power supply now seem to have a problem with the upper power supply as well I cant seem to get the display to work correctly so now I am going to try and hard wire it to see it fixes the problem another Problem is when I put the new power supply in I got all the lights to work on the right and the left lights noted as fail is off as it should be but now I get an error of DOT FAIL so I am guessing it has something to do with the upper Power supply if you think that is it maybe kinda explain what you may think otherwise thanks for the help..... hissy fit

There's a few ways to do this. you can just buy a new upper P.S. for
like $40. or you can use a computer supply to power both the
lower and upper areas.

or you can use a video game power supply:

I gave up on the factory PS in these games  Duh! My firts one the upper PS blew, the second one the lower blew. After replacing the lower PS a few weeks later the upper blew  hissy fit . Now I just pull the upper and lower out and following Clay's post replace with a ATX  Hail . Only thing I do different is put the ATX in the top box with two PC fans . It's really tight behind the hopper  yes

Yes, "Dot Fail" means that the machine isn't able to talk to the Dotmation display, generally because the power supply has fried.  Before you go replacing it, just double-check that all of the communication cables between the Dotmation box and the backplane are connected properly and that nothing got disconnected when you did your original power supply change.

Once you replace the upper power supply with either another ATX supply, or with power from the ATX you just put in, you should be home free.

There's more than one way to skin this cat, by the way.  Clay's posts that he linked to are very good.  I did my upper supply a little differently as I don't have a molex crimping tool or spare connectors laying around.  The method I used involved just snipping and splicing a few wires on an ATX power supply -- it's listed in detail in the following post:
