I had exactly the same problem as you with the C17, it showed up when first turned on for about three secs and then the boot sequence started and finally ended up with the following alternating:
C2 in green
C10 in red
C14 in red

When I did finally get the PSP to talk to the ChamII+ all of the errors went away, even the C17. I guess yours would too, somone else may be able to clarify, but thats what happened to me.

Thanks Paul.
Wow! I hope my errors go away when I get hooked up, too!!

Regarding the cable, I built the jumpered version and it didn't work, I got frustrated and ended up using a plain one as you are and it worked a treat. I had a problem initially using a PC with window98se on, but when I hooked up to the XP machine it worked first time. Do you have another PC you could try?

Paul

Unfortunately I have to use my desktop in my home office; my laptop has no serial port. The only way to use it would be to get a cable that converts a serial to USB, but I suspect that this would not work because it would require a higher level XP driver to recognize the serial connection through the USB port, and this software is old enough that it almost certainly addresses the COM port directly. So I did not buy such a cable. Has anyone tried such a setup?

Quote from: idesign on January 05, 2007, 04:23:07 AM
I couldn't get my PC to communicate with any of my CHAMII+ units until I used a jumper cable.  Try it, you nothing to loose.

True, but the only serial cable I found is molded so I'd have to either wire the jumper inside the male pins, and recess it far enough inside to still allow me to plug it in ( ), or to temporarily jumper the two solder points on the bottom of the ChamII+ board with teeny alligator clips (if I can) and disconnect the jumper afterwards.
The risk is accidentally shorting out something  and enjoying a roasted marshmellow a'-la'-Chamii

Thanks idesign and thedotster for your valued help. I'm going to see if I can find a non-molded cable, or try a jumper under the ChamII board(s), and I'll let you know how it goes.

I buy the ones at Radio Shack as they have the screw top heads.

If you have a molded cable - cut it in half and do the short that way.

You will need your multi-meter to pin know what color goes to what pin but its a heck of a lot better than trying to mess with the moulded ends as that may leave you with nothing.

StatFreak, go to Radio shack and just buy a male and female DB9 connector and make a 5 inch long jumper cable that extends your existing cable.  See attached.  You can use soldered or crimped type.

OK, I made a connector using two micro-alligator clips and connected pins 1 and 5 under the II+ circuit board using the protruding pins.
The good news..
IT WORKED    The Mikohn is sending and receiving.
So, I went though each of the screens and set everything up tentatively the way I want it and uploaded each screen to the II+. So far, so good.
I quit PSP and saved all the files. My new jackpot amount is displaying.
The C17 and C14 errors went away   ,     but the C10 won't budge!

Also, I sent the demo.do and it displayed fine, but nothing I did would get rid of it! Tried sending the other files (F1) and lots of other things, so I finally opened the file (7) in PSP and deleted everything in it and resent it. That stopped the demo (but did it??) . I exited the program WITHOUT saving the files.
Now every time I start PSP and go to the demo file (screen 4, 7) it is empty - even though both demo.mk1 and demo.mk2 still have all of the original data!

I cannot copy and paste the contents of one of these files within the program, so what do I do now? I would like to have my demo file back.
Why is the program not loading the contents of one of those files at startup?
Why does my mess.do never show up (even after the 2 minutes)? (PS This was the case BEFORE I uploaded the demo.do)
Why won't the C10 error go away?

I feel like I'm almost there, but no cigar

OK. worked around the file business.
I'm having the same problem as many other posters before: uploads don't take. about one in 15 attempts works. Sending the files just after power-up/reboot does not help.

C10 error still a problem.

Is the Jackpot token supossed to be 8?  (spade8) I'm using jackpot 0 and mfile0 with ChamII+ set to SA. If I set the token to spade0 I get $0.00 in the display. If I leave it at spade8 I get my set amount of $250.00. Is that what's supposed to happen?

How can I test my Jack1.do and mess.do files?
(I have gone into screen 2 (jackpot summary) and set F3 to MESG and sent this with F1 many times.)

Thanks Rick!

Sooo, Can I ignore the C10 and move on to figuring out how to install this baby?   or do I need to fix that problem?
...and, is there a way to test my Jack1.do and mess.do files?

The mess.do file only works in link mode.  If you are in SA mode, only jackpot.do works.  C10 is an error with the jackpot information.  Check the base, current, and jackpot limit to make sure you are not out of bounds.  Also make sure your jackpot limit is not bigger than what your display can show.

YESS !!!!
That's Done It! JP Limit too high!!

OK, so no messages  but I DID get the jpot.do to display the jackpot 2 ways (alternates between paint and dance)

So now comes the HARD part      hooking the thing up (and finding out if I entered the increment amounts correctly)

I'm gonna need help on this one, too, I'm afraid.
The manual and any other doc I've seen do not list any J# motherboard pin out settings. For the Bally 5500, it only indicates to connect to a 4 pin pigtail connector.
I have two such free connectors in the machine. One has only two wires, the other has 3, and a jumper to the fourth pin. Neither has the correct wire colors.

The hard part here is that this machine originally had a Mikohn ChamII+ in it, and it was ripped out by the Casino, along with tracking hardware that was also in the top of the machine. So I'm going to need to know where on the motherboard those 4 wires are supposed to connect to so I can either directly wire this thing or trace the motherboard out wires and find out where they terminate (where I can attach to them). I think without that I'm lost.

Thank you all for your help. It's almost there! I'd love to post a picture of the machine when it's up and running.

Hi.Could you help me?
I have some CHAMII+ board and 12 cell meter.
But I think my CHAMII+ boards are designed for 14 cell meters.
I want to know how to set my CHAMII+ up to 12 cell meters.
Must I change Soft wear EPROMs?
Is it impossibe to change them for 12 cell meters?
Thanks.

If you look at your CHAM II+ board, you will see two flat push buttons and a sliding switch, all next to each other in one corner of the board.
The switch is labeled S2, and the buttons are SW3, and SW4.

These are used to configure the board. Power up the board and the display.
To enter configuration mode, slide switch S2 AWAY from button SW3.
You will see one of the following 3 menus:
MENU=ADDR
MENU=DISP
MENU=SYST

You cycle through these by pressing SW3. Press SW3 until the DISPlay menu is showing.
Press SW4  7 times slowly until the display reads SIZE=##
Press SW3 to cycle through the available settings. The 12 segment display has 5 LEDs across each cell segment, so you want to set this to 60  (12x5)
After changing this value, slide S2 back towards SW3.
This will set the CHAM II+ for a 60 LED 12 segment display.

I have the same firmware chips as you, so this should work.

I don't think so, it's got 12 segments, 5 wide by 8 high.  A 1 X 2 would have a lot more.

How about a photo of the back of that meter and the part numbers on the display and the piggy back board.

The ChamII is a 1x2 and he has only one meter plugged in.
I purchased the same setup.

Out of curiosity, Vf192, why do you think the Cham is for 14 cell meters??

Thank you,StatFreak,idesign and edski!!!!
The font size was 70.So I changed font size to 60.
The letters displayed correctly.Thank you!!

Well,I have some In machine linker unit boards too.
One is for 14 cell meters, the other is for 12 cell meters.
The infomation,"14 cell or 12 cell"  are written on EPROMs.
So I think there are 2 types CHAMII+,for 12 cell and 14 cell.

Display part number is 341-010-30

Thank you!!!!!

This is interesting.  I have CHAMII boards marked 12 cell, 1 X 2 (like in the photo above), and 1 X 3 but haven't seen CHAMII+ eproms marked with 12 or 14 cell.

I have ever seen "Ver.7.15 12 cell""Ver.7.20 14 cell""Ver.7.22 14 Cell".
They are written on In machine Linker unit(CHAMI) boards.

 http://newlifegames.net/techforum/index.php/topic,2601.msg9674.html#msg9674

Ver.7.15 is for 12 cell.
Ver.7.20 is for 14 cell.
Both picture is 12 cell meter.

Well can CHAMII+ display message,"MESS.DO" without CON2(in STAND ALONE mode)??

No.  But you can put messages on the Jackpot.do file.  It just doesn't do the 2 minute timeout thing. Use jackpot token #8 whenever you want to display the amount.  So you could type something like:

<pick your text sytle><pick your scroll style>Play Max coins for a chance to a life changing experience<new paragraph><pick text style><Jackpot token #8>

I had the same problem, and did as Rick suggested - placing my message in the jackpot.do.

One thing I found, at least with the PSP software that I have, was that I could not use the loop command in the manual to repeat a section several times; it did not work. So I wrote a long succession of token8 commands with the longest time setting (also did not work as stated in the manual. I found that value 1 corresponded to about 1 second, and value 9 corresponded to about 7 seconds. Nothing like the multi-minute setting #1 was supposed to be  ). By doing this, I was able to get the jackpot to display for over 2 minutes followed by a 16 second message.

Basically something like this, following Ricks instructions for each section:
<new paragraph><message><new paragraph><time=longest possible><JP token 8><new paragraph><time=longest possible><JP token 8>...

The secret to using that loop command is to put a number after it. That indicates the number of times that it needs to loop.
