Hi DOT   I'm sure one of the very qualified people will chime in soon so just hitting on some basics.  You say you have pin 1 and 5 connected
do you mean you have more wires connected on your DB-9 and have pins 1 and 5 jumped. I hope

Hi Railroad,

I'm just trying to set up the progressive for the first time. Nothing fancy for messages etc.. I don't have the chip in the U5 slot

Paul

If you don't have a chip in U5, what version of the firmware is in U19?

Railroad,

I appreciate your help.

The lead I've built has pins 1 and 5 jumpered at the male end and pins 2, 3 and 5 straight through to the female end.

I've also tried using a normal shop brought cable without pins 1 and 5 jumpered but no joy.

Hi idesign,

The U19 chip has V1.53 according to the display boot up sequence.

I found a sticker on the board that says:

"STA V1.53 Mikohn '98 U19 c/s4108" (the 4 could be a 7)

On the ribbon cable that connects your meter to the board.there is two sockets. Do you have it plugged into the socket near the end of the board.

I use a straight through 9pin cable with 1 & 5 jumpered. The Radio Shack ones have a removeable hood so it is easy to add the 1 & 5 shunt.

The other thing to check is that the ChamII+ is NOT in LINK mode. There are two buttons on the board that will step you through the menus, you need to make sure it is in standalone mode otherwise if it is in LINK then it won't accept information via the serial interface.

Answer, Ribbon cable is plugged into the socket in the very corner of the board right next to the two buttons.

Jay,

Thanks, I'll go an check that right now.

Guys,

I am so sorry, its working.

Thank you for all your help.

I've changed the PC that I'm using to the following and it all works:

Windows XP with standard serial cable (no jumping pins 1 and 5)

Basically I was using the PC motherboard that lives inside my Jamma arcade machine, but when I tried to plug into this just now I broke the cable I made (my soldering isn't up to much  ) so I took everything upstairs and used my normal PC.

I don't get the C17 error on boot up anymore either.

Thanks again.

Now I've just got to link it to the PE+ and see if that all works, I feel another headache coming on......

I cannot thank you all enough.

Captainhappy here are the pics of the 1x2 in the box.

How much would it cost to hook up a progressive display, like this one, on a single IGT S+ 9in Upright?

Also may want to hook it up to two machines...how much more expensive to hook up two machines?

Also.....can a newbie do it?

Easy

I did it on my Cham II+ Stand Alone (only one machine so it was easy)

You wil need  Cham II+ or con1 for each machine, and 1 Cham II+ to drive the display as from what my Cham II+ book shows

the Con1 or Cham II+ decodes the S+ progressive, Jackpot, and JP Reset signals and feeds that to the controller running the progressive display

I would say plan about $1000 for the Mikohn parts and misc pieces to connect everthing (connectors, wire, etc)

If you have the display already you can probably drop a few hundred off the 1000

But you will need con1 or cham II+ in each machine to signal the controller for the display.

When I get serious about the progressive display, I will try and get back with you to obtain an itemized list of what I need and unit prices I can expect to pay. For now, I am going to acquire a couple more machines. I have the one 9in upright, I then got a round top and put it at Dad's house. So I guess I still have only one machine.....LOL. I did not realize I would have to spend that much on a progressive display. I will do it eventually, just not right now. I got the machine bug now.

Just watch leman1969 store she will have the mikohn up on ebay when she gets it. best to grab it when you can

Its getting rare to find it.

of coarse we may all be finding a way to do plasma progressives signs (small ones) soon

I am tired of red green yellow/orange only on my sign

I want something like The Denver News Agency has on their new building just only about 2x14 inches though

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Starting from the top:

The display is called a 1 x 2
If it is done with Cham 1 display boards and a Cham44 (also known as a LED4 controller) you are looking at less than $300.
I think April had a complete set for $120 on ebay recently but it was not a nice shiny metal cabinet like that.

The LED4 is driven by a CON1 controller.
For an IGT system you ideally want a CON1i (the i being IGT).
There is also a CON1s which is only for 1 machine. I would pass on that.

I paid $350 for my CON1i - Last I had heard Joey has several and April might have some too.

The CON1 I have supports 32 machines. Albiet I only have 4.
I also drive 3 more LED5 units from the CON1 so I have a internal display on each machine, and a second LED4 which drives a 10 board display around my bar.

The other way to do this is to use Supreme boards. These will run you more money. The nice thing about Supremes is that you download graphic files into them then use your controller to superimpose the text and values of the progressives over the background. Idesign has this configuration.

Unlike the Cham1boards which require a LED4 everything you need is right on the supreme boards.

The ChamII+ can drive the supreme nicely but this limits you to a single machine.

The linked configuration for this requires a CON2 (a CON1 can't drive a supreme). They tend to be expensive. When i was first looking they were $1200 but I have since seen them for much less. I am not sure if the CON2 talks directly to the Supreme or if it requires a CON2 in the middle.

Oh and just a final comment on that display. Those poles usually were hung the other way with the sign coming down from the ceiling. Potentially you could bolt one to each of your 9" machines.

OK, just so everyone knows, a CHAMII+ can not drive a 1 X 2, 1 X 3, 2 X 3, etc.  If you want to go that route you can use a CON2 with a Supreme.  With a CON2 you can also have an in machine meter and just use a cheaper CHAMII instead of a CHAMII+.   The cost is still in the range of what Foster suggests below.  However, if you are willing to buy the parts separately, there are some savings to be had by building your own overhead display.  I built a 2 x 3 for about $250 (includes Supreme, 2 power supplies, and 6 meters).  The CON2 could be the more expensive part.

Also, if you have a CON1 you can drive an overhead display too.  You need a LED4 to do it.  Jay can expand more on the CON1 overhead display since he built his own too.

I got a good one for you

Just acquired a IGT internal Display for my S+

What Config do I use, to setup the IGT S+ so the Mikohn handles the top award and the IGT progressive handles a second level progressive, I know I have to use game and reel chips that support the feature game chip not a problem, some of my themes can handle 2 level progressives 3CM wild Cherry 3663, and a few others.

Also Will let you know IGT Page 9 only shows a progressive value in whole dollars.
right the IGT progressive is matching the Cham II+ but cant display the millions or hundred thousand digits (only has 7 digits configured like this 12345.12)

You use Primary link and secondary stand alone as the settings on the SET90 configuration.  That's the way Jay has all of his configured.  It works, I've used it once or twice.

Well I got it working

If I had 2 LED displays for the IGT progressive I could show the both levels at same time on it.
Put the connector in 64 connector it shows the progressive value that the mikohn is using
Put the connector in 65 connector it shows the secondary stand alone progressive value the IGT is controlling
I wonder now if the 5x reel chip will acknowledge if I hit a 7 with 2 5x symbols that I win the progressive and not 2700 credits

You mean play the machine and see.

Will play in regular mode until I see what happens.

Darn I need the 8 digit display.
