Corrupted data appears to be the problem. Wanted to avoid a rebirth if possible, looks like no choice.
Nice to know someone else went through same thing and then got it working!
That endless reboot had me saying alot of "Oh Shhhh*******'s"

Thanks!

Been there, done that

Actually, the rebirth isn't so bad. There really aren't that many setting in the Mikohn. If you just step through each of the three menus methodically and change each thing as you come to it, you'll be done in a couple of minutes. The jackpot reset value screen (with the current value, etc.) should load anytime you press <F1>, but you will still probably need to do the "send after power-up" thing for your jpot.do file. Just don't reapply power too quickly after you disconnect it as that may cause the corruption.

Just to be certain, you might want to also check the contents of your jpot.do file before uploading it just in case there really is something invalid in there.
It's probably fine, but it never hurts to check first.

Before uploading?????
Why before uploading????
I checked it after I uploaded it(F2), looked ok, and then resent it (F1).

Poor choice of words on my part. I meant before uploading TO the Mikohn (F1). Sorry.

Thanks for all the help, especially help from Statfreak. (Karma to you!)
Did the rebirth and loaded jpot.do at bootup and it worked great!
All I need now is a tinited window for it. I seen on an earlier thread that auto tint 20% works good.
Prefer the "Dazzle" config., noticed it wasn't available in jpot.do!
Fits real nice in card reader area!
Here are a couple pic's. Looks better in the dark until I get it tinted.
Thanks again!

Hello,
I´m from germany and i´m new here...so at first i want to say sorry for my bad english.    I´m a proud new owner of a bally Game maker and i want to connect it with a mikohn display. I have connect it with a Mikohn "Con1" (the one that shows text as well); no problem, everything works fine. But now i want to connect the game maker with a mikohn cham2. I have bought 2 pieces of cham2´s via ebay. But now my problems startet: Both where working, but while power up the message "C17" is shown in the display. When i programm the unit with psp software and as long as it is connected to the laptop and the slot machine (bally game maker) everything works fine. But after disconnecting the laptop with psp software and after i once power off the cham 2 all the data is lost: After Power up the cham2-display shows the actual jackpot, changing with the error-code "C10". Then when i press "Bet" at the game maker, the Display of the cham2 shows 0,00 $ again. I guess it is a RAM or ROM Error, because of the Error-Code "C17" ???? Can you please help me? Thank you very much!!
Many Greetings,
Dennis

Sounds like the battery is dead on the chamII as it is losing its info at power off.

Hello...

yesterday i tested the battery: nearly 3 volts so i think it is not the battery. I think it is not the battery because of the following fact:
When i power up the cham2 the error code c17 appears... then the normal operation starts. When i program the cham2 with psp-software everything is working. When i give an impulse on the machine in pin the display starts counting ... everything fine
But the problem starts when i restart the unit (by power off and power on or -and that´s why i think it is not the battery- by pressing the menu-switches SW3/SW4 the same time)....: The error code c17 appears, the cham2 power´s up and then the actual jackpot appears, changing with "c10" and all data (Base Value of Jackpot, Increment etc.) is lost! When i press F2 at the psp-Software for loading up the data, all fields are 0!
except the actual jackpot. When i enter the Base Value, Increment etc. again, press F1 (Send) the cham2 works again.
I have 2 units of cham2 : Both have the same problem! I´m a little bit afraid because of "c17" (RAM Signature Error)... Are both cham2´s destroyed?!!
Please halp me...  Thank you !!!

Souds more like the ram error is in your con1 unit.  Have you opened up the con1 and pressed in the ram chips.   Take a quick look at the bottom and see if there are any solder joints that are loose?  A new RAM chip is not an expensive endevour but it doesn't sound like it is on the display side?

Sorry...perhaps a silly question... what is the con1 unit?? I have the cham2 (Power supply + pcb on the top) connected with the display.
Which RAM ( U...) do you mean? Do you think it is a soldering problem? I have 2 cham2´s and a friend has one cham2 with the same problem!!!
It is perhaps a problem that appears so often...??

Do you have a CHAMII or a CHAMII+?  If a CHAMII then you need a CON2 to drive it.  If a CHAMII+ it should say stand alone on the board.  Also, do you have it hooked up to the machine?  The errors should disappear once you have it hooked up.

Well, you did say in your first post that you were hooking your machine up using a CON1.

If you're not sure if it's a ChamII or a ChamII+, post pictures of each of the board(s) involved in this issue, including the one that you thought was a CON1, and please resize them to 800x600 or less.
Or post all of the numbers and words that are printed on the top of the chips.

That might help to clear up the confusion.

Thanks.

Ok it's me again.  I have purchased a ChamII or ChamII+ (don't know which one) from April.  I need help on finding out which one I have.  the sticker on one of the chips say "CH2 STA/ V2.01 2001 MIKOHN U19 (269A) FITZ (DUP)".  The sticker on the board says "314-075-00 CSTLR STND ALONE 00473071 (2)"  I know this is a stand alone Controler, I just want to know which one of the CHAMII I have.  Also, I have been tinkering around with the programing, and I was able to set my jackpot info and what not, but I can't figure out how to change the colors from rotating colors to rainbow (Red green yellow), or any other cool tricks that I have heard about.  Also, I can't figure out how to program messages, and is there a way to have Cherry and 7's on the display randomly when in Idol?  I'm thinking that seeing that this unit is less expencive then the big ones that have all the graphics, I'm most likely out of luck.  Any help would be great.  Thanks

P.S. I no longer have the spectrumII meter.  I think it's M.I.A.

Good news....you have a CHAMII+.  For the fonts using the switch and buttons on the board, go to the MFILE menu. It controls the colors and justifiecation.  Try 1 through 8 for the settings and see what they do.  No cherries or 7's at idle.  I haven't done this for awhile but I believe your message needs to be in the jpot do using the PSP.  Someone else here can confirm that.

On March 26th I was outbid on eBay for a ChamII STANDALONE. The winner bidder was from Europe, most likely Germany.
Peachpit, if you bought the ChamII from "Lemans1969" on that date from eBay, then you have a standalone.
Is it labeled "ChamII STA" ?
I do not believe those can be connected to a CON1  CON2. <(Can anyone verify this)
Modified; Thanks for the correction

A CHAMII and CHAMII+ (stand alone) can both be connected to a CON2, not a CON1.

Confirmed! You cannot use the message.do files with the ChamII+. I went through that pain. You can only use the Jpot.do file. But you CAN put in more than one message and separate them with paragraphs with commands using the jp token. I set mine up with several token paragraphs in a row followed by a message, then more token paragraphs and another message... This works well.

If you are going to set up your own message in the file, then you cannot use the built-in color settings in MFILE s 1-8, so you will have to enter the appropriate command in each paragraph that uses the JP token. The "Dance" command causes the colors of the numbers to all be different and to change "randomly" (but they are not really random). The "Paint" command is the one where all of the numbers are the same color, and the new color comes down from the top.

<ADD> You can use the message files if you use a CON2.

Thanks!  I can not tell you how much this web site has helped me out!

ok, now on the Jpot.do file, does that show up on Idle? does it randomly show up while playing? What are the functions of the Jack1-4.do files?  I have read the PSP manual, and It's for the most part understandable, but the rest is like greek to me.  Is there a Manual, or info sheet that tells me what all the symbols mean, and what I need to have to write a message, What sequence to put the symbols in Etc...  I think it's set to paint right now.  I want to change it around a little bit.

No Graphics for this little board.  Oh well.. that's ok, I'll just have to perfect this setup first then try the next one up once I get the money.

The jpot.do file shows current progressive amount, and is displayed at all times except when you hit the progressive win.
then it changes into cycle showing the following:

JACKPOT
$1,023.74 <- would be your actual progressive amount at the time it was hit
CURRENT
$1000.00 <- amount depends on your base or initial progressive value

Foster is correct. In addition, what I found when I read through those manuals is that the instruction on the use of the commands does not always jive with what I found when I tried them.

Also, you will only have the commands/options that you see in the PSP software when you go to the screen to program the files and bring up the jpot.do file. The commands are listed above the area where the cursor resides. Don't worry about the symbols since you will be entering the key commands listed (like <SHFT> <F2> for example). The symbols will only aid in checking that you entered what you intended.

You may have to experiment a bit to get the look that you want for your messages. One other issue is that the Mikohn won't always take the upload of the file. You will send it and nothing will appear to happen. The way around this is to kill the power to the Mikohn and reboot it. You upload the files just after the boot sequence finishes.

If you read through some of the history on this thread over the most recent 2-3 months it should help you out a lot. If you're ambitious, you can go back further for even more tidbits of information, but there is a lot to read through.

Hello,
it´s me again... the one with the error code "c17". Yesterday evening it happens; yiieepiiiee, the c17 went away !!  I simply went into the MENU of the Cham2 (MENU = DISPLAY = SYMBOL) and turned it from "EUR" to "NONE". The "C17" went away and no more data lost!
But now the next problem: I want to connect it to my Game Maker in Handpay Mode. When i go into the "Communication Test" and press "Send Coin" everything is ok. But when i press "Send Jackpot" the Cham2 only counts a little bit up, but no "Jackpot xxxx,xx changing with Current xxxx,xx" !!?? The Cham2 is ok, when i connect the two pins at J7 (GND and Machine In ) for at least 3 seconds (so programmed with psp) the display shows "Jackpot.... changing with Current ...." . What have i done wrong??
Another question: If i want to connect the cham2 with the game maker in the mode "serial return" what kind of wiring is necessary?
To "Uniman": Yes, i was the one who bought the Cham2 from lemans (Ebay)   (it is lebeled with CHAM II STA).
To slotmankurt: If you have a Mikohn CON1 (this one can not only show a jackpot ; it can also show text messages!) you can enter text into the jack 1-4 do files. For example: Display shows the actual jackpot; after a while the text you entered in jack1.do (perhaps: "winning is fun" etc.) appears; then the display shows the actual jackpot again; after a while the text you entered in jack2.do (perhaps: " Play with max coins" etc.) appears ... and so on. With a cham2 (cannot display text) it is like statfreak says....
Many Greetings...

Ok so leave the Jack1-4.do alone, Noted, got it.  Now for Jpot.do that one I can mess with.  do I just put text in there? Do i have to start a paragraph first? what elements do I need in order to make it display text on Idle?

Thanks
