OK, you didn't explain that part to begin with so I fiigued you were trying to hook it up to an IGT.  As you probably discovered, the CHAMII+ manual is silent regarding Williams machines.  Rick Hunter may be able to help since he has Williams.

That is one thing I was hoping not to hear because my MS only goes to 22 . Maybe A newer version than 1.41 would have it

Try MS25 I think this is  is the setting for a WMS and also make sure you have DPS set correctly.

Isn't that what the gateway is supposed to address ??

If you use the gateway .......

On each side there is an IGT, BALLY, WMS etc.....

If you connect up the WMS on one side are you able to connect up the other with IGT ? and then use IGT signling....

I am still looking for a gateway manual

What ozzy said is what I was hoping that just A newer version chip might help and to put A twist in it the gateway to my understanding is just converting signals between A 485-232  so with no luck on finding the mikohn gateway I'm trying A 3rd party 485-232 converter

I thought the MS seting was in the PSP software, not the CHAMII+ firmware.  I have version 2.07 of the CHAMII+ firmware.

Not to sure if it is just in the psp or the chip?? April has me on file with the mikohn part # to keep A look out but I have yet to see A WMS as A standalone so my guess is thay have them all hooked up to A con 2 and then you don't need A gateway and A con 2 is on A dream list

Jay, for A WMS thay have you using A 4 wire hook up on different pins at the J-7 header(pins 7,8,9,10) as compared to IGT (pins3,11,13)

But if you were to plug into the gateway using IGT - then on the far side using WMS the WMS would wire up as WMS and IGT would wire up as IGT.

Still not sure if this would work.....but it would be worth a shot.

Anyone have a gateway manual ??

A gateway does more than just electrical interfacing.  It actuall converts the serial language as well as the electrical interface.  There are at least two versions that we have seen.  One with just the large DIP chips and another with an EPROM socket for each chip.  The gateway, as I recall from the dip switch settings, has a very limited interfacing vocabulary.

The MS setting "IS" the machine interface language (how it communicates serially).  So you would still need a gateway if you plan to change languages. (assuming a gateway even supports the WMS platform - I have no idea on that subject).

Your 3rd party inteface is probably no more than an electrical conversion from RS485 standard to RS232 (its a voltage thing).

Might be a little confused here guys.................................what would the 4 wire hook up consist off

You require fo any Prog cofig. the following;

1. coin in

2. jackpot

3. serial return  ( expose amount to machine or for data collection )

4................... ...................... .............................. .................................

cheers

Could be that the prog return and the coin in may not share a common gnd on the WMS....

Or it could be that wms doesn't simply do a close like IGT ...

,,,but not having this platform would not know....

All of this being an experiment with not having A crucial mikohn part but what is A person to do when none is available but try and try again
Thay show the 3-wire game hook up as transmit, receive, ground and the cham hook up as transmit and receive positive and negative so like said if the electrical signals are correct the language might be wrong which it seems to be looking for the mystery MS25

HEY JAY   DO YOU HAVE A GATEWAY MANUAL I COULD USE       JUST KIDDING

The "gateway" for a WMS appears to be nothing more than an RS-232 to RS-485 converter as per the schematics.  The issue with railroad94 might be that he needs a newer version of the chamII eprom.  I believe he has the version that doesn't not have the extra flash chip, so I don't know if the newer firmware can be used on those boards.

Have read with interest the connection question to a WMS game, are we talking about the 550 or BB

It was my understanding that the 550 could not be hooked to a Mikohn System, something in the back of my mind from a while ago, so I contacted a couple of friends of mine, both have never heard of a 550 being hooked up and this is the repsonse I got from someone connected with Mikohn

"Hey Dude,
I checked our harnesses for use with Gaming Support controllers but I don't have anything related to WMS, new or old, sorry!"

So I would be very interested to know and to learn something new

Have ran many a WMS reel and Video (550) machine link/ and stand alone setup using both Cham II and super controller in the past, see attachment on ChamII info for WMS, including BB info; I think your contact needs to do his homework mate    . First setup I installed  with WMS/Mikohn was back in 1996, 12 slant top reel machines using con II config, ran perfectly mate    .

Ozzy, I think he is using a CHAMII+ so there is no CON2 to communicate with the machine.  The CHAMII+ manual is silent with regards to connecting it to a Williams machine.

Ah well.....I was responding to the statement (well post) that  "550 could not be hooked to a Mikohn System" ChamII+ info was attached. ChamII+ manual page 37/38.

Lets see response, as mentioned over the years I have always used MKN on WMS machines.

In the last pages where the harness descriptions are, there's mention of the necessary connnections to a wms 550 or a blue bird cabinet.  They require the RS232-RS485 board in between the chamII+ controller and the backplane.

Sorry forgot to even mention that one, usually when purchasing from Mikohn for a specific install they advise ans supply all parts required, well they did when they were in business.

See attachment as to wht Rick is referring to for the 550/BB setup ChamII+

My mistake.  I'm impressed.....those attachments are from an August 2006 manual, mine is from an August 2005 manaul but they appear to be the same.  The PSP manual I have doesn't list any setting for the Williams machines.

Hi guys,

Its been a while but I'm back looking at this now my hair has finally grown back after pulling it all out

I've got a Chamii+, I've built a lead with pins 1 and 5 connected and I'm using windoze 98 and PSP selecting OLD, but I can't get the PC and the Chamii to talk to each other.

Ignoring the PC for the moment, the last time I posted I was getting the following on the display:

C2 in green
C10 in red
C14 in red

These all appear after what I shall describe as a boot up sequence. However, I've noticed at the start of the boot up sequence the following:

When power first on, the whole display shows Green and then Red
Then Drive C:
Then ROM TEST. . . .
Then something flashes up so quickly in green that I can't read it, but the end of the line appears to say OK
BUT.. then it shows in red C17.
C17 stays lit for about 3 seconds and then the rest of the boot up sequence continues until it gets to the C2, C10 and C14 cycle which I beleive can be sorted out with PSP.

My question after all this rambling is: The C17 message, is this the reason I can't get the PC to talk to the Chamii? I don't want to waste another three hours trying to get the PC to talk to the Chamii if its not going to work because of this.

On page one of this very useful thread, Ozzy has listed a bunch of errors and in the list it says this:

C17   RAM signature error

Any help greatly appreciated.

When you say you can't talk to the CHAMII+ are you just trying to set up the progressive or trying to do messages and if it's messages your board needs the chip in the U-5 slot. some of the old boards don't have it.
